Private Bluff Top Cottage above the Mississippi River

This charming, newly remodeled cottage is conveniently located between Grafton and Alton, IL on top of the bluff, high above the Mississippi River and the Great River Road. This 2 bedroom cottage is in a private, woodland setting perfect for your bird and wildlife viewing. We have seen many eagles, turkey and deer.

Although there is no internet at the cottage there is a river viewing area with internet close by. Cell phone service is good. Also, for those that would like to stay longer, there is a 10% discount for weekly and 15% for monthly stays.

Mother and Daughter getaway

We really enjoyed the cabin. It was exactly what we needed. Super cute and perfectly secluded back in the woods. The short walk down to the cabin from where you park isnt for anyone with any handicap. The stairs going up to the bedroom were angled and not to my liking (as im getting older). Cozy and clean

We loved the peace and quiet. The beds were very comfortable. In the picture you see the steps down to the house and in the directions it mentions the stairs. This plump, arthritic granny did not note those two things. Still I would be happy to go back

Quick getaway

The property is beautiful. We decided to sleep downstairs with access to bathroom without going down steps. There is no BR upstairs. But they have multiple recliners and a cozy sofa so we were comfy. Very private and quiet. Great place to reset.

MS River View

Really enjoyed the privacy, country type setting and view of Mississippi. Lots of history in this area and did a lot of touring each day. It was a perfect spot to return to for relaxation.

Grafton is a Beautiful area

We had never been to this area before and were pleasantly surprised on how beautiful it is. The cabin was nice and very simple. Could use better stairs for the walkway down to the cabin, it was easier to walk in the grass. The stairs to the upstairs where the bedrooms are, very tricky. They are steep with a curve at the bottom, which made nighttime trips to the bathroom difficult. There is a picture on VRBO that shows a bench looking out over the rivers “a beautiful view” this is not at the Cabin. I assumed it was from the pictures listed of the cabin. This is a walk down the road. I don’t think the bench would hold much weight or 2 people. That whole area was not very pleasant or inviting. We woke to a warm refrigerator, but that was replaced with a new one that day. We enjoyed our stay but it would have been a problem getting anyone up to the bedrooms or down the stairs into the cabin if they had any kind of a handicap.

Great getaway

This bluff top cottage is the perfect place to stay if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle. It is quiet and a great place to relax. It was very clean and orderly. We found it very homey. The only problem we had was the slope of the yard. And the stairs to the bedrooms. My husband is handicapped and had a little difficulty getting around the place. Though overall it is a wonderful escape.

Hiking Adventure!

It was very enjoyable to hit the pillow at the lane house after lots of hiking along the Mississippi & Missouri 😊 our evenings cooking & sitting on the porch were a true delight. Loved the quiet, the cool bedrooms upstairs & the sights of owls, cardinals, deer & the sound of the locust’s & thunderstorm was a bonus!

Quaint Little Getaway

We were here to fix a water main break at my friend's mom's house. We needed a place for a bit until we could get water going again. This is just what we needed. It offered a relaxing setting to unwind after a long day. My only suggestion to the owners is to put some solar light along the steps outside becausr had we artived after sunset, those steps would have been hard to navigate in the dark.

Gorgeous property!

The property and location of this place is gorgeous! When wanting to get away from the busyness of life, this is the place. Secluded but close enough to places to go if desired. We would absolutely stay here again! I would love to know more about the history of the house, it was really neat.

Relaxing atmosphere

Convenient location to many activities. Much better location than a hotel for our family to enjoy a getaway while in town for a dance competition. Plenty of kitchen supplies to cook a nice meal as well as grill! Beds were very comfortable. Only considerations I would add to description is shower ceiling is a little low for tall people and the driveway is steep (wasn't a problem for our SUV). We would definitely stay again if we are in the area!

Lovely out-of-the-way location

The cottage is on a beautiful hill overlooking the Mississippi River. We stayed over Christmas while we were in town visiting family, and though we were generally only there long enough to shower and sleep, we loved it and would stay again. The drive to and from the cottage is gorgeous, and we did find time to visit nearby Alton as well as the Cahokia Mounds. Highly recommended.
