The Dr. Okerholm Loghaus is located just 8 minutes from Main Street on a private, gated ranch. Walking up to this stunning log cabin (c. 1820) will find you eager to enjoy the fire pit with your family and friends under the massive star-filled sky with the Milky Way blatantly visible on a clear night. We provide enough firewood for a 4 hour fire with starter logs each night of your stay along with fireside blankets. The full-width front porch boasts 4 rocking chairs where you'll find yourself spending a lot of time here morning, noon and night taking in the views & just rocking your cares away.
Step inside to the stunning, yet cozy family room with plaster cathedral ceilings, antique adze-cut beams & wide-plank pine floors. A convenient remote-controlled fireplace and a large TV with movies and Amazon Firestick complete with Netflix are at the ready should you decide to stay in. The comfy leather sofa & tufted lounge chairs are perfect for catching up, snuggling up and providing the best space for time with those who mean so much.
Once you're ready to retire for the evening, the left bedroom King suite also has incredibly comfy chairs to read, plan your day or simply a lovely space to take in the fact you're staying in a log cabin dating back over 200 years! Our guests constantly commend us on the beautiful night's rest they had on our comfy pillows and amazing mattresses. Since you might spend half your stay in bed, we know how important a great night's rest is so you'll be glad we've gone the extra mile here!
The right bedroom is a two-Queen bed suite also with a sitting area and once again, truly remarkable comfy beds and pillows! It's quite common for guests to send us a message on a Monday after they've checked out requesting a shopping list of what it takes to duplicate the wonderful comfort they experienced at Legacy Ranch.
Whether your desire is to eat light and easy with Charcuterie boards or morning coffee and muffins you bring, to a full meal, our well-furnished (albeit small) kitchen has you covered! The kitchen includes a 2-burner glass cooktop, toaster oven, electric skillet and large crock pot/slow cooker are located in the cabinets. You’ll also find cookware, cooking utensils, grilling utensils and glassware from morning coffee to evening wine. Stepping out of the kitchen into the back of the house is a granite patio area with outdoor dining & ample seating which is surrounded by the most serene hill country setting and charming landscaping. You'll adore how this beautiful getaway is tastefully designed (The Savant Home from Austin, Texas) with comfort and hill country elegance as the main priority.
For freshening up, the bathroom features a new stunning custom tile & glass shower enclosure with a granite vanity lavatory. Guests have commented the new bathroom design is an unexpected luxury in an old log cabin.
Legacy Ranch Guest Houses sits on 12 gated and private acres just 8 minutes from Main St in Fredericksburg. If you choose to book the entire property, not just the Dr. Okerholm Loghaus, Legacy Ranch sleeps 12.
HISTORY OF DR. OKERHOLM & THE LOG CABIN:
Dr. Okerholm Loghaus honors the owner's father, Dr. Richard A. Okerholm, a Research Pharmacokinetist. He was instrumental in the development of Lipitor, Seldane, Mucinex, Sudafed and smoking cessation drugs, just to name a few.
The Dr. Okerholm Loghaus was once a dog trot, built mainly of wide yellow poplar logs with a few oak logs mixed in. It originally stood near Parsons, Tennessee, circa 1820. It was dismantled, then transported to Texas and rebuilt on the property 1998.
THINGS TO NOTE BEFORE BOOKING:
For Safety reasons, NO CHILDREN UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE ALLOWED. All persons in your party must be accounted for in the guest count, no exceptions. Guests found in violation of booking rules will have their reservation terminated immediately and cancellation rules will be exercised. Also, should your guest list change, please inform us of your guest list change(s) ASAP so you may receive a credit for less guests or potentially make a payment for the additional guests.
Within 24 hours of making the reservation, we require the person making the reservation provide host a clear copy of a valid government issued ID of all guests 18 years old and over. Please provide copies of the ID's in the VRBO messenger or text them to us.
We are no longer allowing bachelorette parties unless the group consists of at least three generations of ladies. Unfortunately we’ve experienced far too many issues with bachelorette groups of ladies in their 20’s. When Moms and grandmas are present, the experience is better for both host and guests. Thank you for understanding.
The incredible wedding venue is complete and Legacy Ranch now hosts weddings (wedding day or a wedding weekend) for up to 100 wedding day guests, 12 wedding weekend guests across the guest houses! **Please note weddings DO NOT take place during your stay** The wedding venue isn't open to guests without Legacy Ranch staff present.
Until the Covid pandemic is over and potential international travel restrictions are no longer a risk, we will not be able to host guests who do not live within the United States. DO NOT BOOK if you will be traveling internationally in order to arrive at our guest house. You will be required to cancel within 1 hour and your reservation will be refunded 100%. NO INTERNATIONAL GUESTS.
The front gate is always kept closed for your privacy and security. Prior to check in, you will receive the gate code. Additionally, each house has it's own access code which you will receive prior to check-in.
UPDATE 12/30/18- Please take no offense, but each paragraph below is a result of a prior incident or situation from prior reservations. We apologize in advance for the lengthy rules and points we didn’t think we’d have to consider or share with future guests:
NUMBER OF GUESTS/SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: We are always on property. Do not make your stay with us awkward for everyone and book for an inaccurate number of guests. It is not a victimless occurrence. We, the property owners, know the limits of our utilities for both water well pressure and septic system drainage, not to mention the comfort accommodations deserving by each member of your party. For sanitary reasons, no guests are to sleep anywhere other than on beds (no sofa sleeping). Any guests found to be violating the booking number by hosting more people than what the reservation was made for will be escorted off property, the listing host service will immediately be notified and your trip and monies will be forfeited due to booking violations. If at the time of your booking you expected 4 people were coming, but now you’re expecting 6, please let us know so your booking is accurate ahead of your arrival. If you were expecting 6 and now 8 are coming, please let us know as we may be able to modify your reservation to a more accommodating house for the comfort of your group and for the integrity of the property and subsequent guests. If you were expecting 6 and only 4 showed up (which is verifiable), we will happily refund your overpayment.
PARKING: Due to underground utilities, driving or parking on grassy areas is prohibited. Parking or driving on grassy areas just feet away from paved areas places expensive plumbing and septic significantly at risk of thousands of dollars in damages. Repair fees will be passed along to the guest who incurred them. PARK ON PAVED AREAS ONLY.
THEFT/”BORROWING” FROM OTHER HOUSES: We presently have three guest houses on property. Unless you book multiple houses, the other houses and their amenities are not for your enjoyment. Do not remove firewood, furniture or anything else you find useful from another guest house for your stay without our prior consent. Just because no one is present now doesn’t mean they won’t be arriving later. Each of our houses are stocked inside and out in preparation for the next guest. Permission is always required, forgiveness can be given, but requires additional billing.
GUESTS RE-DESIGNING OUR PROPERTY: Under no certain terms are you or any members of your party to assist in modifying our landscape or design of our houses. (No cutting of trees, rearranging furniture for your personal desires with the exception of chairs to accommodate your guests). Any outside furniture is intended to stay outside. Indoor furniture, pillows of any kind and white linens of any kind are never to be taken to be used outdoors.
ADDITIONAL DÉCOR FOR ALL TO SEE: Please refrain from using phallic or obvious potentially offensive décor outside your guest house for other guests on property to see. Party like your sweet grandmother will show up at any given time.
WIFI: Our wifi is strong and you are free to stream movies on your laptop. SmartTV & Firestick access to Netflix and Hulu is in place.
CAMERAS: Due to our Wildlife exemption granted January 2019, there are outdoor cameras on property. Please do not tamper with them, turn them off or unplug the camera components.
LOCATION: We are on a private gated ranch which is an 7-8 minute drive to Main Street on Highway 87. It is inconsiderate to shortchange us on our star rating during your review for our location if you expected to be closer to downtown. We are NOT downtown and our guests continuously rave about the private hill country experience as they preferred NOT to be downtown. We cannot control the location of our property, so if a downtown experience is what you’re seeking, please book downtown.
