This cozy cottage is updated inside and is simply beautiful in its setting. My sister and I stayed for a long weekend. We have a family cottage in the area and have been coming to Charlevoix for 35 years. The area has stunning nature, water, hiking, woods, water sports, winter sports. Short drives will take you to Traverse City or Petoskey (more bustling). But we like the smaller town feel of Charlevoix .
The cottage is easy to find with well maintained roads. It is just a few miles into town or any of the several beaches. The row of cottages is quaint and well maintained. The lake is perfect! Sunsets and breezes and leaves rustling. We had the place all to ourselves, but if you come in the summer I'm sure you'd have many neighbors. We felt very safe even in our solitude.
The cottage was stocked with lots of spices, oils and vinegar. The kitchenware is serviceable but could be updated and added to a bit. We cooked a few meals and were able to make do with the available pans and utensils. Lots of blankets and pillows, towels. The gas fireplace is the heat source and so delightful! It was just chilly enough for us in the evenings and mornings to have on for a few hours. I'm sure it would be enough if you needed to heat this small cottage all day. The bedroom has a window air conditioner, but we had no need of it. I imagine the windows all across the front would offer a great breeze and there are two portable standing fans.
The bathroom is well equipped and has a grip bar. The shower, though fine for us, may be a bit small if you have a very large person - I'm thinking of a family member who is 6' 4" and 400 pounds.
The little loft is truly suitable just for a child, but you could squeeze an adult into the space if don't mind having no headroom. The pull out mattress is not the most comfortable as you first lie down, but you can shift around so that the bars aren't hitting you in the back and I had no trouble sleeping on it all.
Communication with Jill was easy before and during our stay. Internet is okay. We could surf but too much buffering to stream. It was fine for our needs.
We would most certainly return to this little slice of heaven, and plan to do so. Our time there was exactly what we were seeking - clean, modern, quaint cottage and fresh air with beautiful nature. Highly recommended.
