About this property

Secluded Getaway on 112 Forested Acres

Two hours north of Manhattan lies the pristine Catskill mountains. This charming cape style home is the perfect secluded getaway for those looking to leave it all behind and bask in tranquility. Summertime means blueberries (high bush and low bush), raspberries, blackberries, and cool breezes blowing from the rich lustrous wetland that lays uphill from the main house.

With a covered back porch, and a nice sized front deck, within earshot of one of many babbling brooks, an intact eco-system teeming with frogs, birds, butterflies, porcupines, deer, this is the perfect getaway for a family (or families) looking to create special memories far away from the maddening crowds of the city. The bedrooms are cozy, there's a galley kitchen with electric stove/oven, full size fridge and dishwasher, a spacious living room stocked with puzzles and boardgames, and a small comfortable dining room is set off of the kitchen. Additional amenities include washer/dryer, fire pit, and gas grill. The area is absolutely perfect for cycling, with routes ranging from easy to crushing, depending on your preference. There is also satellite internet, but please note: OUR INTERNET IS NOT RELIABLE ENOUGH OR FAST ENOUGH FOR REMOTE WORK OR SCHOOL.

The 112 acres spans both sides of the road, and includes extensive woodland, streams that occasionally tumble into modest waterfalls, and a large marsh that attracts an extensive bird population.

Here is some recently shot, completely unedited drone footage that gives you a sense of the remoteness of the land and the beauty of the forest surrounding the property (copy and paste the URL into your browser to watch):

Lovely House in Quiet Area

We spent the 4th of July week at the property. The house is lovely, the downstairs stayed cool despite not having air conditioning. The screened in porch out back is the ideal place to enjoy a thunderstorm. The kitchen is very well stocked with all utensils necessary to cook and eat. There is also a nice selection of books, puzzles, and outdoors toys available. The outdoors property is also very beautiful. The forest/ wetland across the road turned out a perfect spot for dog walking. It took us a bit of searching to find our path, but that just made for enjoying the forest a bit longer. A good spot for bird watching, too. I particularly liked observing the family of bluebirds in the yard. For somebody living normally by a busy road, what struck me the most was just how quiet the area is. There is really nothing else to hear but birds singing.

Great place to disconnect and unwind

Great location to unplug and enjoy nature. The house is beautiful, well maintained, and thoughtfully designed. The surrounding property offered lots of opportunities to get into the woods and appreciate nature without getting in the car. While there aren't many nearby stores and shops, we had everything we needed and necessities were not too far afield. Plenty of more substantial hikes and swimming hole options around the area too. Hosts were very communicative and helpful. We really enjoyed the quiet nights around the fire. Would love to stay again!

Every thing good accept driveway, weak internet and dust all over furniture table floor

House around cool nice. Cleaniness poor , dog hair on bedsheets blankets. Looks like they cleaned long ago and dust everywhere inside house. Major problem is our van stuck driveway . We had to call tow truck for escape.

Summer Getaway

Two friends, two dogs. Charming old farmhouse with all the period details., Very private and quiet country location with great outdoor space. Lovely garden with a lot of birds, butterflies and a beautiful night sky (no light pollution). We took it easy - morning tea on the screened back porch, evening drinks on the front porch, large sitting room with lots of jigsaw puzzles and books. Two very happy dogs with all that outdoor space and walks in the wooded areas. We found enough to do within easy distance - including great hikes in Mohonk and Minnewaska preserves.

Nature

We needed a break from the crazy city and totally enjoyed this house and gorgeous property. The kitchen had everything we could need which makes life so much easier. The property is so well looked after and loved. The flowers are incredible. The streams on the property are fabulous. The screened in porch and the hammock are key! We will be back!

Escaping the Concrete Jungle

I had absolutely no issues renting this house. The owner was open and upfront about the WiFi and no TV. The whole idea was to unplug and get away from technology and info overload. It was beautiful property with plenty of areas to explore-112 acres (large teepee and running stream). It was also close to other areas to go hiking and was not far from a supermarket to pick up supplies. Spent every night at the fire pit enjoying the solitude of nature and the love of family. I am very grateful to Nicholas who was willing to share this beautiful location with me and my family.

Great Snowy Getaway

Our stay was really great! The house is charming, with comfortable beds, and a nice living room for the family to relax. The kitchen is small, but well stocked. You can’t drive right up to the house when there’s snow, but the owners had communicated this before we arrived so we were prepared. The house is 30 minutes from the Holiday Mountain ski resort, so the location was perfect for us since we went there twice. Nick and Marya were great about communication, especially checking in before and after an ice storm and to see if we needed to be plowed out. The owners couldn’t be nicer! We had a great vacation!

Perfect Winter Weekend

My family just needed a quick weekend out of the city and we couldn't have asked for a better house or location! This was our first time renting from VRBO and the communication with the owner was so great and helpful. It was a very cold weekend so we didn't hike around too much but our dog and little one had a wonderful time playing in the snow covered yard. We're already planning another spring visit!

Private and cute

The house and property are really great. The property is private and has many really nice areas to sit and relax. We loved the screened porch! The recommendations left by the owners for swimming holes are also wonderful. The only two issues are that like other people have mentioned- the internet doesn’t work reliably at all. If you are needing to work remotely like so many of us are at this time, you should look elsewhere. If you don’t need the internet other than to send an email every once in awhile- then this is a great choice. Also, the house isn’t super clean and there was a pretty active mouse family while we stayed. It’s obviously an older home so I expected it to be dusty etc. and I understand rodents do happen. I feel like the place could use a good deep clean- especially the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. We definitely spend some time scrubbing to feel more comfortable. Overall, it’s a really sweet house in a gorgeous area.

Great stay in the Catskills!

We had a great visit in Grahamsville. We loved the secluded location, big yard, fireflies, and the amazing wallpaper in almost every room of the house! We stayed with a group of 6 and enjoyed family meals and games in the big family room. We appreciated the host's local recommendations and visited farmstands, swimming holes, and hikes. Our only issue with the house was that the Wi-Fi wasn't strong enough to support multiple people working remotely, but I think that is due to location and service providers available in this area.

Great stay in Catskills

Two adults and two kids (and pet!) had a great, relaxing stay in the Catskills. The property is spacious and secluded, affording us much needed privacy as we got out of the city for a few days. The owner's instructions for what to do in the area provided the highlights of the trip -- I was very grateful for that. Only caveat is (as of this writing) the wifi is so-so, so may not be best for working vacations (although my wife had to work (including recording a podcast) and we managed just fine).

We're a native New York family with a deep and abiding love of nature. We're happy to be able to share our not-so-little slice of wilderness to anyone looking to escape the break-neck pace of modern life.

Why they chose this property

If you're looking for peace and quiet and nature's warm (and sometimes cold) embrace, you've come to the right place. Set back from a very quiet road (a total of five houses on a one mile stretch), the house sits in the corner of 112 acres of unspoiled secondary forest with lots of different terrain to explore. Perfect for families and friends seeking solace and fun and a true feeling of getting away from it all. Summertime holds the promise of raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Kids especially enjoy exploring the highly varied terrain.
