About this property

3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house 1 1/2 Blocks From Main Street, one block from harbor.

You will enjoy this 1750 house, only one and a half blocks away from the cobblestones of lower Main Street. Very cozy for a small family! The house is well equipped with appliances, washer/dryer, central air, large flat screen TV, outdoor shower with two shower heads out back. We just finished renovating! It's got one parking space (though we feel it's not necessary to bring a car). The address is 17 Washington St. The house is set between the Handlebar Café (coffee shop with great cinnamon muffins ) and the Nantucket Artist's Association. All you could hope for with shops, restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops and NRTA bus station/stops all a very short and lovely walk (1 minute).

Live within a very short walk to Nantucket town and harbor! We have just installed a new kitchen counter with farmhouse sink and new floors this past Fall. Note, the three fireplaces look great with candles in them… But are not operational for fires. Most of the floors are antique wide board pine.
Lastly, we urge our guests purchase outside travel insurance that covers trip cancellations due to dangerous travel conditions from bad weather since we are on an island subject to wind and high seas. John Hancock, Axa Assistance and IMG offer such policies.

Off Season Visit

My family stayed this past weekend and had a fantastic time. The home is so unique and in a great location in town. The restaurant/cafe suggestions were perfect and easy to get to being right in the heart of town. The Wave transportation bus station was right across the street making it easy to get all around the island for free!! We can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful little historic home with all the modern conveniences. House was tastefully decorated, very clean, and close to everything. We slept great both nights and enjoyed our evenings by the cozy electric fireplaces watching TV. Thank you to our hosts for a wonderful stay!

Location is amazing

Great spot for a getaway weekend. Location is perfectly close to town. But just far enough away so it’s quiet. Nice little coffee shop steps away. No need for a car. 10 min walk from Steamship and 5 from Hy-line and stop n shop. Would absolutely stay here again.

Wonderful accommodations for a frigid weekend

Perfect location in close walking distance to town and the ferry. The house is absolutely beautiful, comfortable and thoughtfully restored. The kitchen had everything we needed which was great. We came during a historically cold weekend and enjoyed the gas fireplaces! I would definitely come back- highly recommend.

Cute and close!

Our girls weekend was wonderful at this property! We loved how it was within short walking distance to everything in town, and you could even see the water from the master bedroom. It’s quirky - being over 200 years old, the floors aren’t always level and the stairs are steep, so you do have to be careful as you walk in certain corners - but the quirks are a big part of the charm. The kitchen is beautiful and had all of the basic pots/pans/dishes we needed. The style is cute and clean, the grocery store is very close, and the owners checked in to make sure we were all set. Definitely would recommend!

Amazing Off-Season Stay

We had a terrific week! The house was exactly as described and pictured, but we were also pleasantly surprised it was bigger than we thought. It was very centrally located and an easy walk to everything, even in damp, cold weather! The kitchen had everything we could need for a week (I loved the Nantucket coffee mugs). The layout worked well for us. The combination of the front and back stairs made privacy feasible, especially with 2.5 bathrooms. We loved the two living areas, which meant we could separate reading from television watching. The coffee shop next door was closed, but we were able to donate to the “Little Library,” also a nice touch. I can’t say enough good things about this historic house, from the overall restoration to the location to the small details.

Lovely house. great location.

A lovely old place updated to meet all our needs. The location is excellent, a short walk from the ferries. The next-door coffee shop is a real plus, like your own kitchen in the morning. Only issues were the early morning street noise, since it is on a busy commercial street, and the faulty TV remote, which did not allow us to watch the baseball playoffs, in which we all had our own teams involved. Despite the best efforts of the caretaker and local cable guy, the TV issue was not fixed before we departed. Otherwise, no complaints and a lovely few days.

Great stay in town!

We had a wonderful stay at this house. It was the perfect location and very close to town. It was also pretty quiet at night compared to other spots in town we have stayed at over the years. Sam was very responsive and accommodating to our requests and questions. It was cool to stay in such a historic house. Everything was very clean. It was more than enough room for our group of 3 adults and 1 kid, with lots of extra space. The bedrooms are all a great size. The kitchen was fully stocked with what we needed to cook. Overall, it is nicely maintained and updated. The upstairs tub could use updating. At first, the upstairs bathroom seemed a little awkward since it connected two of the bedrooms for access to the back staircase, limiting use of the back stairs if someone was in that bathroom. We made a plan to let everyone know if someone was in that bathroom, with the middle bedroom using the "secret" closet connecting to the bunk room for access to the back stairs. Of course the front stairs give normal access to the downstairs for those two bedrooms so not a big deal at all, but just to mention. It's an old house, so part of the layout. I would definitely stay here again! Thank you!

Beautiful property, with caveats

This is a charming old house and the location is very convenient; all of the shops and restaurants in "town" are a quick walk away. The buildings next door are a coffeeshop on one side and an art gallery on the other, which we enjoyed. Two issues worth mentioning. First, there is absolutely no sound insulation, internal or external. You will hear every footstep and conversation in the house, and every vehicle that drives by. The house is on a street that is a surprisingly busy corridor for buses, garbage trucks, and 18-wheelers, so the noise is constant. Next, the bathroom situation is pretty awkward. All three bedrooms are upstairs, along with one full bath. The issue is that all of the bedrooms have doors that open directly onto the bathroom. The hallway is also the bathroom, in other words. You will only want to rent this property with a group you are super-comfortable with. Overall it's a lovely little house, and I know it's a struggle to maintain the original charm when remodeling and modernizing older homes; I hope the owners are planning some strategic improvements and I wish them luck.

Charming and spacious old house close to town and ferry. Walk to all restaurants & stores

Very comfortable and well-appointed house. Two TV's. Full kitchen with all imaginable appliances. Classic old house with steep staircases so possibly not great for elderly or people with small children. Great house and comfortable beds and furniture. W/D etc. Will stay here again if available.

We bought this house because it was next door to our cottage.

Why they chose this property

This house has a wonderful location...not only right in town and a short walk to everything, but it's also right next door to other property we own, so it's easy to manage. We recommend coming without a car because most everything is within a short walk. When you want to travel to other parts of the island, we recommend the $2 clean buses that stop right across the street or the taxis which also form a waiting line a block away. My wife's favorite part of the morning is walking right next door to the coffee shop for cinnamon muffins and coffee. We think you'll like it!

What makes this property unique

...the charm of 1750 with modern conveniences...all within a block or two of town and the harbor. you can even walk from the hy-line ferry dock with your bags. Walk home after a wonderful dinner or drinks.
