Salmon Fishing

Beautiful woodwork throughout this large in town home. Well stocked kitchen, wonderful towels in the three baths and our entire party said their beds were comfy. We would have enjoyed better and more seating in the living areas. Not sure why there were several plastic folding tables in the main living space, it certainly detracted from the home’s charm.

Great for a large family group

We loved the this beautiful historic house. It had plenty of bedrooms and beds to choose from. The air conditioning worked well. We spent a lot of time on the lovely front porch. The grill in the back was nice and they have an amazing dining table that could seat a room of people. Only thing I would say could be better was more seating on the porchh, and maybe some more comfy seating in the tliving room.

Friends Trip

Overall, we had a great time! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals for our group of 12. We enjoyed the backyard with the fire pit and outdoor games. There was plenty of room for all of us! We spent a day at the beach and we drove to Michigan's Adventure another day while we were there. Becky was prompt in responding to messages and there were clear and simple instructions for the house when we arrived.

Would definitely stay again!

My family lives all over the country, and once a year we try to get together in one location. This year we chose Ludington since half of us live in Michigan, and this house was big enough to hold three generations of us, from the youngest four year old to the oldest at 67. This home was so cozy and well stocked. It felt like staying at Grandma’s house. The location was great. A very easy drive to downtown Ludington, or the state park. Stearns beach/ park was a favorite. We also rented a boat from Hamlin Lake Boat Rentals (also recommend), and a 35 minute drive from horseback riding. We made so many great memories at this house, and it was bright and cozy and felt like home all week! Great location, great spacious house, great hosts. Oh, and we also loved having dinner all at one table and playing board games at that same large, beautiful dining table!

Sitting on the porch for coffee every morning and playing games around the ten foot table every evening was the calm in a very busy weekend.

Weekend away

My husband and I gave our two adult children and their spouses a weekend away as a Christmas present. We chose this house because of its size and location. It had the right number of rooms and bathrooms. We enjoyed the front porch quite a bit. The house itself was clean, but I was not impressed by the dishes that the previous renters had put away. Most were greasy or just not cleaned well. We literally washed everything before we could use them. (In fairness, I would have rinsed the dishes before use, but these required a thorough washing). The living room furniture was not comfortable and we ended up using the rolling chairs from the retreat tables because they were the most comfortable ones in the house. The house is clearly setup for crafting retreats. There was a surprising amount of clutter in many of the main floor rooms. This was not an issue for us, but if we had small children, I think it could have been. The front porch was wonderful and the neighborhood was very quiet. We used the grill for our dinners. (Make sure to bring foil as the grates on the grill are rusty.). We played some lawn games, which was very nice. Becky was very responsive and communicated well. Keyless entry was great.

Great Home With Lots of Space

We traveled for a Macker with another family and stayed at the house. Lots of space, we didn’t feel on top of each other. Loved the HUGE dining room table for all to eat together. Beds were great and we all slept well on them. The porch was a great hang out space for anll. Enjoyed the history of the house too! Would rent again if in the area.

Comfortable and convenient to the Ludington area

Loved the property because it was roomy and put you at ease. The selection of board games was great, and we enjoyed some of the books as well. The wheelchair ramp was excellent and provided great access. There was some clutter in the house, but this actually helped to make us not so nervous to enjoy it to its limit.

Thanksgiving Trip

Such a charming home to relax in during our trip to MI. Our favorite spot was the long dining table room! We laughed, we cried and we made so many wonderful memories! So many places to sleep! Even took a mini road trip to Canada and the kids were missing this house for two days. We played the SORRY board game every day we were there! The host was extremely quick in replying with all of our questions and very accommodating! Nice location.

About the host

Hosted by Becky Alway

Host profile image
Becky and Rob Alway, along with their two daughters, have lived in western Michigan all of their lives. Like the Reverie Retreat, they also live in a historic home just a few blocks away.

Why they chose this property

The Reverie Retreat was built in 1909 and originally owned by John and Catherine Mack. Mr. Mack owned a general store in Scottville, in partnership with Justus Stearns, one of the most famous lumber barons of the Great Lakes region.

What makes this property unique

The Edwardian style house is one of three "mansions" that were built in Scottville in the early 20th century. The other two homes remain, just a few short blocks away. The Reverie Retreat features five bedrooms, including a master bedroom with a canopy king bed and hot tub in its own private bathroom.
