About this property

Room 102 - Hawthorn Historic Inn - National Historic Landmark

The Hawthorn Historic Inn is a Dutch Style Victorian built in 1900. It has over 2000 ft.² of decks on multiple levels. This is the only room with a entrance directly onto the deck and barbecue. We are under the flight path too so the decks make a great viewing platform for seeing the planes. In addition to a brand new kitchenette in the unit, freshly painted and remodeled..... offshore breezes and the warm afternoon sun all day long keep the temperature mild and comfortable. We have room 102 completely refurbished Hawthorn Historic Inn is a National and state historic Landmark.....
Your unit has a two burner stove top, a kitchen sink, microwave, and refrigerator too.
With regard to location we are about a five minute drive from the airport, A 15 minute walk to the Convention Center and three blocks from Balboa Park which has 17 museums, the San Diego zoo, and the old Globe Theatre. A bus goes right past the hotel and can take visitors either downtown or North about 1 mile where a beautiful sanctuary run by the self realization fellowship since the 1903 Chicago world’s fair can be found. A big plus for staying here is that most visitors will not need to rent a car.
The Hawthorne Inn also known in earlier years as the Plainsman looks exactly the same as when it was built in the 1890s. Even the interior hallways have not been altered. There are a wide hallways, the rooms are very soundproof, there is a public Study area adjacent to room is sunny, quiet and little used by other like having a spare room to read in etc. There are three historic floating museums in the harbor about a mile away. And at least thirty restaurants in Little Italy which is also only a mile away. There is paid coin laundry the first floor and a full size refrigerator in the room.

San Diego weekend visit
Very nice room! Michele was wonderful to work with and Greg was very helpful (tv and door code) Would love to stay again if it was not so near airport, as planes flying over were very loud, otherwise loved it! Thank you.

About the host

Owners have lived in San Diego for over 25 years. WE enjoy hiking, swimming, museums, cultural events. And we bought the hotel to refurbish it to its former glory days. IT is a work in progress and every day is an adventure when your building was finished in 1900. This year we are replanting the grounds with California native species.

Why they chose this property

It's central location, unbeatable harbor and city views, thousands of feet of deck, made it irresistible. We think that it is priced fairly. You may not even need a car while you are here. Some people take Uber and Lyft and save money on the car rental.

What makes this property unique

Every day you can step outside your door and go on a different adventure. You will not need a car as most places you can walk, uber or use one of the many bikes from the city's bike share program. For the price, we feel we are giving good value for your money.
