About this property
Light-Filled Home with Cat. Sleeps 4 adults + kids. Beautiful natural setting.
Four different mountain ranges surround our 1800 sq ft home, with nature walks right from the door, yet minutes from shops, and 20 min from downtown. Eldorado is a unique and beautiful country suburb of Santa Fe, where everyone has at least an acre. There is one shy cat on site.
Please note! The WHOLE house is available approximately June 12 to July 15 or longer, and often on winter holidays. Ask me about your dates. Currently the minimum stay during that summer holiday is 2 weeks. The rest of the year, the GUEST SUITE is still available when the hosts are home (most of the year). In that case, we share all open spaces -- you are welcome to cook, have meals inside or outside, and relax in the living room. If you are renting the guest suite, you can stay between 3 days and 2 weeks.
Feel free to contact me to figure out the details for your situation.
The house is passive solar and has Santa Fe style charm and air conditioning.
Hiking and biking: There are greenbelt walks for miles through this neighborhood, and bike paths that stretch from downtown Santa Fe to Lamy. Several playgrounds for the little ones.
Two Bedrooms: Both bedrooms have queen-sized beds. One of the queen-sized mattresses is memory foam, and one is a firm mattress. The sofa bed is a narrow but long single bed with a futon-type mattress; since it is narrow, it may be more suitable for a teenager. There is also a mini mattress available for a toddler, and a crib for an infant. The bedrooms all have private entrances.
The house comes with one very shy cat who mostly lives in a separate bedroom, so guests should be cat people, or at least not allergic. If the host is away, there will be a cat carer who visits daily (to give food and clean the litter box); the cat carer has their own key and can be ignored by guests, and is very careful to not invade your privacy. The cat herself is actually rarely seen, but you may see a flash of her disappearing around a corner!
The bathroom has bath, shower, toilet, and sink. Bath towels, soaps, toothpaste, shampoo, and conditioner are provided.
Clean cotton sheets and duvets will be on all beds.
Kitchen has gas stove/oven, toaster over, electric kettle, fridge/freezer, french press coffee-maker, drip coffee-maker, espresso machine, Cuisinart food processor, small blender, and popcorn-popper.
Most of the house has open-beam ceilings called vigas, ceiling fans, and all rooms except bathrooms have bookshelves, so you can curl up with a good book whenever you want.
We have air conditioning and central heating.
Wireless Internet is fast and reliable
Netflix and Hulu for movies and series are available.
Clothes Washer, Clothes Dryer, and Dishwasher
Interaction with guests:
Even when away, we are available by phone, email, and text, and may be able to meet you in person at the beginning and end of your stay, depending on when you arrive. We may have a house manager or a cleaner visit for longer stays, with plenty of notice.
When we are home, we give you plenty of privacy so that you can cook, study, and talk with each other. But we also welcome conversations. It's a happy space.
Other things to note:
Please note that this is a lived-in family home with flaws and idiosyncrasies, not a polished space. You may find that a child has drawn on the wall. The cat will shed, jump on the counters when we aren’t looking, and tear through the house for no reason. It will be very clean (cleaned professionally as well), cheerful, and sunny, with light that goes from one side of the house to the other.
Professional cleaning can be arranged during your stay as well, and we will subsidize that if you are interested.
We have deliberately priced the house low, because you are cohabitating with our best feline friend.
This neighborhood, called Eldorado, feels like a nature reserve -- full of birds, coyotes, bobcats, and owls. (None of these are a threat to humans.) Welcome to wild New Mexico!
Eldorado is about 10.5 miles or a 20 minute drive from the middle of Santa Fe, such as Trader Joe's, the Museum of Indian Arts, or the St. Francis Cathedral. It is 25 minutes from the Santa Fe Plaza, Meow Wolf, or the Pecos National Monument. It is 0 minutes to a nature trail out the back door. And 6 minutes to a grocery store in Eldorado (our neighborhood).
There will be a list of interesting places to visit, along with a list of good restaurants, especially those that express the culture of New Mexico and Santa Fe.
Santa Fe is short for "La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asis," its official name. That means, "The Royal Village of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi." There is a rich connection with both Spain and Mexico in the local culture.
Native Americans of many tribes and nations live in this area and are its original inhabitants. You can visit 19 different reservations or pueblos, both here in Santa Fe and all over the state.

About the host
Hosted by Dana

I’ve been hosting here for more than a decade, and really love it. People have come from all over the world to visit Santa Fe; tourists, artists, and spiritual healers are frequent guests. When I’m home, I get to meet the visitors, and when I’m back in England and Wales, we communicate in whatever way that works.
