Goslings' Nest in Jay, New York (just outside of Lake Placid and 11 miles from Whiteface) offers
2 bedrooms with a king bed in each,
2 bedrooms with 2 twins in each (and two child size mattresses hiding under twin beds if children wants to use them),
a full-size (new!) pull out sleeper sofa in the great room,
and a bunk bed with trundle on the 1st floor. The mattresses and encasements, pillows and encasements, sheets and blankets are also new! So comfy!
**Please note that the house does NOT have
A/C so we provide fans for those rare hot days.**

The house sleeps 13 MAX. Thank you.

Please check back here as we add more photos from each season and as we continue to add wonderful features to the house. You can also follow The Goslings' Nest, to see current photos, keep up-to-date with special pricing, events in the area and other interesting tidbits. Thank you!

The house is dog-friendly with many 'baby' gates. One is bolted into the door frame of the twin bedroom on the main floor. Your dog will be exhausted from watching and listening to the 100s of chipmunks! S/he will need a vacation after her/his vacation.
The ground/1st/driveway level is a safe space to leave your dog if you are going out and don't want to crate him. It is an all-TILE space, approximately 11' x 25'. You can keep him safe and happy while you are gone. No need to crate doggie nor the hassle of bringing the bulky crate! This room is also perfect for bringing in your non-motorized sports gear to keep out of the weather: bicycles, kayaks, fishing gear, ski boots and skis, luge sleds, on and on.

There are microwave, toaster, dishwasher, oven, coffee maker...

There are plenty of pots and pans, a coffee maker and filters (and some coffee in case you forgot!) full-size fridge, and eating space for 16 (12 at the HUGE farmhouse table and four on stools (with backs) at the kitchen counter.
There is a new propane grill and grilling tools.
The 'spice' cabinet has things such as: peppercorn grinder, sea salt grinder, basil, dill, sugar, and more.

One of our FAVORITE features of Goslings' Nest is the HUGE floor to ceiling river rock fireplace, with a hearth deep enough to sit on while you enjoy some tea or chat with friends.
THERE IS A GLASS FRONT WOOD BURNING STOVE! We finished some improvements on the fireplace and installed a wood burning stove to get the house TOASTY.

This is the perfect space to disconnect, slow down and enjoy the forest with friends and family. However, the high speed Wifi and Roku t.v. also provide you with all you need to work from 'home'.
There is so much or so little to do in the area. We provide books and games. There are hundreds of hiking possibilities in the area, you can visit the Olympic sites, the Au Sable Chasm, the Wolf Sanctuary and on and on. PLEASE don't hesitate to ASK us if you are looking for anything in particular or something out of the ordinary to do. We so LOVE all the the adventures that are available.

The upstairs full bathroom has been renovated, and the main floor bathroom is also clean and lovely with the bright, knotty pine (hewn from the local forest) that is throughout the entire house. There are a full size washer and dryer in case you are an athlete, for instance, and come home cruddy. Ha! Please note the house has spiral staircases ONLY.

We do appreciate you taking the first step to enjoying your stay at Goslings' Nest by letting us share our pride in this property and reading all of this. Any income we make from you staying here will help fund my daughter's training with the Olympic Team. She was selected and has committed to Team!

Winter holiday

We spent 4 days at the Goslings Nest in February. It was an annual family get away for skiing and other winter fun. The house was a 30 minute drive to beautiful Lake Placid and a 15 minute drive to Whiteface. The Goslings Nest is cozy and we loved the wood stove. We had everything we needed to make the vacation comfortable and enjoyable.

Retreat in the mountains

The house was clean and comfortable. Peaceful and quiet location. The large dining table was a great place to gather for dinner and games. A great place to get away from it all. The owners were very responsive to any questions or concerns. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Great place for families and doggies! Close to Whiteface Mountain.

This lovely chalet was close to Whiteface mountain for our ski/snowboard trip. The hosts were very accomodating in every way. We were allowed to pay an extra fee and bring our well-behaved doggies which made our trip extra special. Great large dining room table was fun for playing Mexican train dominoes. The mattresses were very comfortable. Would probably be a great place to stay in the summer!

Girls weekend

My daughter and her 3 girls (plus 1 friend) had an awesome time. As a lover of the Adirondacks, I really appreciated the quietness this chalet provided us. The house was just as advertised and the owners got back to us with any questions we may have had in a prompt manner. In addition, the bunk room allowed the teens their own private space other than their bedrooms!

Hiking group enjoyed our stay

My women’s hiking group (13 of us) stayed at the Goslings nest for one night. We hiked Jay Mountain and BigCrow/Little Crow. The place worked out great. We had fun playing a game around the big dining room table. There was plenty of hot water for all of us. The beds were comfortable. And Linda’s communication was exceptional, answering all of my questions in a very timely manner. We would definitely stay here again.

Enjoyed our stay

Very quiet place to spend the night , with a rustic feel. The grill had mold growing in it and required the grates to be scrubbed before using. The front balcony seemed to be a roosting place for birds and several dead bugs in the sliding doorway to it and the chair would have needed a good washing to sit on. We had plenty of room for our family and were able to eat in and get to our planned destination the next day.The owners were very responsive and e offered us an extended stay. Unfortunately we were on a schedule.

Peaceful

There were two reasons we chose this house: location in proximity to the Olympic venues and the dog friendly nature of the house. We were not disappointed in either. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly, the location to the Olympic sites is perfect, the owners created a safe space for a dog to be left and the house was big enough to feel roomy even with 6 of us staying. The owners were very attentive and responsive with any question we had, whether is was a question about the house or the area and local attractions. The deck was our favorite place to hang out and was a perfect place for morning coffee. We had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to return.

Wonderful

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Gosling's Nest and will be back. The home and property were perfectly kept and exactly as described. Linda was quickly responsive to any questions that we had. The house is completely dog friendly and our pup loved being out on the deck. A provided baby gate kept her safe and secure. Although a dog friendly home, there was absolutely no "doggie" smell and that was awesome. We really appreciated that the owners use green products and the fact that the information for a local soup kitchen was provided so we could drop off any left-over food at the end of our visit. As mentioned in the post, there is a spiral staircase so that is something to be aware of if traveling with small children or people with limited mobility. The house has the benefit of being completely private and in a community and provides the best of both worlds. You simultaneously have a peaceful escape without view of other homes and the benefit of wonderful roads for dog walking and running close to home. Lake Placid, Whiteface, and Keene were all super easy drives. Walking, shopping, hiking, kayaking and biking were right outside the door.

Turn Back Now

From the get-go, we were burning time enjoying ourselves in town until we received the check-in notice from VRBO. So we drove over and then the stingy owners wanted additional money to get in--after we received the notice that the home was ready for us--and we watched the cleaners leaving as we pulled up. We reluctantly paid. There was a tripping hazard near the front door so one family member set it against the house out of caution for the kids. Apparently it was set against some video camera for which the property owners like to watch you with?? Pretty creepy. As we were hiking the high peaks, we were notified that there was a camera blocked--which we had no idea what they were talking about. So while we were hiking, the owners came and went thru the house and through all our stuff. There was plenty of fire wood provided, which seemed nice, so we had a small fire in the yard. Apparently that's not allowed. For the 17 years I have been enjoying the Adirondacks, everyone always has fires outside--it the Adirondacks. Now the owners are trying (not going to happen) to NOT refund our huge damage deposit. There was no remnants of a fire after we cleaned up, and their tripping hazard was put back, so not reason to keep a damage deposit. There was no damage. Their check in rule book is insane, and they want shoes off and no eating on the couch--in which they actually make reference to humans being animals in their book. What kind of vacation is that?! Very uncomfortable place. But by all means, if you like zero privacy, being monitored on camera, and being run by jail house rules--this IS your place! We went to another wonderful place from here which we just had the BEST experience ever. First time ever having a bad experience on VRBO! Good luck, and happy(ier) vacationing!!

Perfect place to disconnect!

Absolutely wonderful. Our group of four would return without any hesitation. The cabin was clean, cozy, and well organized. The area is absolutely beautiful. We saw many deer walking around without much concern that we were around them. That pretty much describes how peaceful it is here. Thanks again for sharing this hidden gem in the woods with us.

Cozy chalet with attentive host

We recently stayed with our dog and had a wonderful time at the chalet. It sits in a quiet neighborhood that’s just a little over 15 minutes from Whiteface Mtn. The chalet was stocked with the essentials and had really comfy beds. The host checked in regularly to make sure we were doing ok - appreciated that. We look forward to staying here again.

OK stay--positives and negatives

We stayed for a few days after Labor day and left short of our booking time, as this just wasn't the place for us. (I did tell the host it was for a work issue as I didn't want to hurt feelings and hadn't processed a fair report on our experience.) First, Linda could not have been better at communication and responsiveness. The interior of the house was very clean. The exterior could use some attention. The patio could have used a hose-down, cleaning the debris and food stuff on chairs left by previous occupants. Small balcony off the bedroom had huge spider webs on back of the stacked chairs, making for an unsightly first impression. As far as the experience, aesthetically it was mixed. The bedrooms were lovely, simple and uncluttered. Bathrooms super clean and updated and very nice. The main open seating area however, which should be the most inviting, was not that for us. This could be easily addressed by bringing a visitor's critical eye. The drapes were the main culprit (in bedrooms too, as only drawback there.) Unsightly, heavy, and clashing. Simple sheer curtains would brighten the interior, as the house is surrounded by trees, so light isn't a concern. The furnishings are very big sectionals, which overwhelm the room. However, it makes sense for large gatherings of people, I get it. The floor-to-ceiling fireplace is indeed beautiful, but it is cluttered with make-shift bookshelves on either side with a hodgepodge of old mainly children's books and "stuff." Those bookshelves could be moved to the downstairs bunkbed room, leaving the fireplace to be the true focal point. (Also, no need for the huge objects on top of the mantle, further cluttering the room.) Kitchen was clean and updated, but throw out the stuff in the pantry cabinets most likely left by former guests. Much looks old and not so useful. Simplify the offerings--coffee and filters, Oil and vinegar, a few seasonings. The town is a food desert. (There was one place we wanted to try, the Hungry Trout, but it was closed during our stay.) It's a good location for varied day trips, but we spent all of our time in the Lake Placid area for the great hiking and where there were real restaurants if you don't feel like cooking or eating in a noisy bar. We feel the house rate was overpriced for what and where it is and we didn't get our value. That said, I think it could be made a lot nicer with a little bit of effort and a more critical eye toward a visitor's first impression.
