About this property

3 Detached Suites With Private Baths & AC, 5 King beds, Acreage, Pond, Firepit

If waterfront seclusion and privacy in southwest Austin and halfway to Dripping Springs (known as the Wedding Capital of Texas) are important to you, then this is your place. With a combination of woods and fields, hiking trails, a large pond, pergola, firepit with stone seating, and small orchard, this 36 acre gated private ranch is unique in that it is close in to downtown Austin with easy access from Loop 1/Mopac South. The large front porch is perfect for enjoying the birds, night frogs in the pond, and viewing the deer. There is also a detached outdoor entertaining area/carport, with lighting and electricity, for enjoying dinners, watching games, etc. Due to prolonged droughts in the area, the pond does not hold fish but does hold lots of frogs for the kids to catch and provides a source of water for area wildlife.

Privacy is also accessed through the design of this home, which we built just a few years ago. It is modeled after a Texas deer camp in a U shape, featuring a central main house with two separate bunkhouses, one to the left and one to the right of the main house, that are 12 feet away and all 3 buildings share a long, covered porch and roof. There are 2 roomy bedroom suites in one of the 2 bunkhouses and one roomy suite in the second bunkhouse. Each bedroom measures 21 x 18’. In total, 3 bedroom suites are detached from the main house with a total of 5 king beds and 1 sofa. Each bedroom has its own private bath with plush towels, AC/heating controls for individual comfort for each room, sun blocking drapes, and one (or two) king beds and/or sofas. Every room has its own tv with DirecTv satellite service and a mini fridge on the built in desk for water or beverages since it is 12 feet from the main house. Each bedroom’s built in desk with seating allows you to access your laptop in comfort. This house design affords family and friends togetherness time when you choose in the main house and on the porches and then private downtime in your bunkhouse just a few steps away.

Our home place is only minutes from Belterra Village shopping, restaurants, a movie theatre, several beer and vodka breweries, an olive orchard, swimming holes, hill country vineyards and wineries and only 25 minutes to Sixth Street in downtown Austin. There are touring limos that visit the local vineyards and wineries. All you need to do is Google them to book a trip.

Our living area in the main house has two leather reclining sofas and one large recliner with a 70” large screen HD television. Open to the living room is the kitchen which features quartz countertops and a 6 burner Wolf range, along with 3 stools at the island. Ceilings are 11'. There are 2 coffeemakers, a Ninja Coffee Bar and a Keurig. There are two ovens in the kitchen along with everything you need to prepare a meal. As your host is also a chef, there is a large variety of pots and pans along with most any other utensil needed to make a delicious meal with your family or friends. There is also a laundry room with an LG washer and dryer along with detergent. We are serious about your sleeping comfort and have been told that the beds are very comfortable. The sheets are high thread count. Each mattress and each pillow has a protective wrap ensuring cleanliness, also. We are clean freaks and work hard to make sure this place is ready for your visit. In addition to our cleaning it, we also have a professional service come in to clean prior to your arrival.

Wildlife is abundant on our ranch, particularly birds and deer. We would invite you to enjoy the fire pit outdoors under a vast Texas sky and roast hotdogs or make s’mores with the wood and roasting forks provided. There is a lovely small orchard at the opposite side of the yard with roses, peach, nectarine, apple, pear, and plum trees. It is fenced to keep the deer from treating it like a buffet. If you venture in there, please close the gate behind you and keep it closed or deer will find there way in there. You can also enjoy a walk in the morning or evening on the trails and in the meadows. The property measures a half mile from the front gate to the rear fencing with plenty of room to walk laps, if you choose. There is also a golf wedge range and hitting mat. You will have to supply your own golf balls, but we will supply a shag bag to help you retrieve them. There is also a basketball goal over the concrete driveway, so there is plenty of room for getting your game on!

The window of each bedroom looks out over the pond, orchard and fields. It is a lovely view to wake up to seeing the deer at the feeder across from the pond and all the wildlife coming to the pond for a morning drink of water. The front yard also has bird feeders for those who love bird watching and listening to all the song birds.

We truly want your visit to be wonderful and will do all we can to ensure that it is. If there is something special you would like, we will do our best to accommodate you. Thank you for looking at our listing and we hope you will choose us.

Thank you!

51st Birthday and Distillery Tour

We can’t say enough positive things about this vacation rental. The spacious grounds and pretty views were so enjoyable. The individual cabin type set up was perfect for our group of friends. It was nice to have the space for everyone to go to bed when they wanted to without being bothered by noise from those staying up. The main house has a fabulous kitchen and everything you could possibly need. Close proximity to the distillery tour was perfect . Thanks for everything! Also, we never ran out of hot water with all of us trying to get ready to go out for the day.

Amazing Stay

We can only say good things about the property and host! The house and property, we're amazing. Perfect for 3 families with kids to relax in and explore. The purpose of the trip was to visit with friends and see the 2024 eclipse. The eclipse was an amazing experience, but even without it our stay would have been perfect. For families with kids the sleeping rooms are separated from the main part of the house, connected by an outside porch. This made putting the kids to bed a breeze and allowed for the adults to enjoy time together without worrying about waking up the kids. 100% would recommend staying here!

Outstanding place to spend a few days with family and friends

Beautiful property, private and well designed house. Out family likes to cook so where we stay and what is available is upmost important for us. This house has the best equipped kitchen of any place we have stayed. The bedrooms are designed to take advantage of privacy and away from the main living area. Beautiful pond and sitting area. The owner was wonderful and responded to any request we made. You can not go wrong staying here. We will be back.

Beautiful Country Getaway!

If you are looking for a peaceful country setting complete with star gazing, this is a wonderful vacation getaway. Bring the family or come for a quiet weekend, there's nothing like relaxing on the back deck and listening to the frogs and cicadas. Our Host and Hostess have equipped their home to perfection-we had the best time! Perhaps the best compliment is this is our 4th time returning! We love the atmosphere so much, we come back year after year. We love Magnolia Ranch!

You Have to Choose This Place

We were staying here for my daughter's wedding in Dripping Springs. The accommodations were fantastic, very organized, and every detail on the website was accurate. This is a perfect place for your guests to have their own private room/bath and then come and gather in the main room. The owner provided a handbook with very pertinent information. In addition, he was accessible for any questions to ensure all of our needs were met. We will definitely return for large gatherings and you will have an excellent host!

Beautiful property and home - perfect stay!

Such an incredibly beautiful property. The lodging worked out absolutely perfectly for our group of 4 couples. We all were able to have our own room AND bathroom but then have the main area to cook and hang out together. We loved the views and the added bonus of sweet Tboy. So special! The house and rooms were all updated and clean and had every amenity we could have wanted. The owners were so pleasant to deal with and made sure everything was taken care of. Our group is already talking about coming back to this same property in the future.

Another perfect friends vacation at Magnolia Ranch!

This is our 5th year vacationing in the Hill Country at Magnolia Ranch. We found the property absolutely beautiful-the landscaping so pristine-especially for the season. The grass was super green and the pond was so pretty-making a picturesque spot to drink our morning coffee on the dock and patio. Fun Times! We love the layout of this country property- a gorgeous main home to gather together with private rooms (with great air conditioning!) for each of our couple friends. We will be back! We highly recommend Magnolia Ranch to family and friends!

Wonderful poperty

The property was beautiful with a pond and deer, and great covered porch for family to gather outside. The layout was perfect for us. My grown sons had their own suites as did my husband and I. The family room/ kitchen/dining room was a great area to cook together, play games, or watch a movie. Leo was very helpful with restaurant and shopping information. We will definitely book this property again when we are in Austin. Margaret Buckman

Awesome mini ranch.

We had a fantastic stay. It was like having our own 30 acre ranch. Very private and beautiful. Outside of our room was a pond with a dock. So peaceful. They even have a pet deer that we fed. Simply amazing. Oh and by the way it is next to the famous salt lick barbeque. Off the chart food. Leo and Kim were outstanding hosts. We can't wait to come back. Next time we are staying a week.

Great time at Driftwood!

The Driftwood property was tremendous. The hosts have thought of everything to make your stay a great experience. Each of the bedrooms has a spacious and update bathroom as well as a mini-fridge for a midnight snack. The common areas are also well appointed with 2 ovens and a Wolf gas range. The TV is huge and seating is ample and comfortable. The inside of this home is nice but outside is even better. There is a pond and several nature trails, bird feeders everywhere, and an elevated tee box for a marked driving range. Location is also perfect. It's close to Salt Lick BBQ and the Desert Door Distillery. We were in the area for a wedding in Dripping Springs and it was less than 15 minutes to the center of town. Great hosts, great property, great location!

Comfortable Spring Break Getaway

My family and I, 10 of us, stayed at this property for Spring Break and it was fantastic. The property is beautiful. The three bedrooms were spacious with a full bathroom in each. The main house had plenty of space with a half bathroom as well, and everything was well-appointed. The place had everything we needed, from any pot or pan we may have needed, laundry detergent, plenty of napkins and toilet paper, some wood to build fires, etc. There is plenty of space to walk around and explore, and the feeders had the wildlife come out every morning. It was relaxing to sip coffee and watch the birds come and go as well. Overall a comfortable stay. Clean property with plenty of space for 10 people.

Beautiful Home/Property

We were in Driftwood for our daughter’s wedding. We had 6 adults and one 7 year old child. The set-up of this home (a main home with several individual suites) worked beautifully for us. With the individual suites and main gathering home, there was as much privacy and quiet space as wanted, or not, by each individual. All necessary amenities were available. Appliances were top of the line along with a beautifully designed and appointed kitchen. The property was spotless on arrival, easy to find and access. The beds were very comfortable. The grounds were manicured and beautiful, especially at night due to the lighting. While we did not utilize outdoor grills, they were available. The owner reached out to make sure all was going well and we found everything we needed. We highly recommend this property.

We absolutely loved this place! Worked great for our needs. Was well supplied, clean, comfortable.

This place is fantastic! We loved the privacy we had here but it was still conveniently located for the wedding activities we had during our stay. Each morning we enjoyed leisure time for breakfast and coffee outside, enjoying nature (deer, birds, turkey, etc). We loved our visits from T-Boy. The main house as well as the separate bedrooms were well stocked with everything we could need. We've stayed other places where it was only bare necessities, but this place had everything from shower soap & shampoos to all the kitchen supplies you would need, including forks for cooking marshmallows over an outside fire! Check-in and check-out were seamless and easy. Leo was very responsive when we communicated with him. Would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a place to stay in this area and would love to go back again ourselves.

Peaceful

This was the perfect property for our weekend stay in Austin. We had 8 adults in our group and had plenty of space and privacy, each couple had a private bedroom and bathroom. The bedrooms had a mini dorm fridge which had bottled water and a little bowl of snacks on top. We really appreciated all the extra amenities in the house. The common area in the main house had a large living and kitchen area, perfect for our morning breakfast. The kitchen is a cooks dream! The outdoors were so glorious that we spent most of our time around the campfire at night laughing and telling stories. During the day we moved under the covered porches to watch the deer, magnificent! There is a pet deer that came to visit throughout the day and night named T Boy. what a gentle little guy! The owners take a lot of pride in their rental. It was very clean and I would highly recommend this property to any group of travelers. Thank you Leo for a wonderful weekend in the country!

Absolutely amazing VRBO!!!

I can't speak highly enough about this house. I'd give it a higher rating, if it were an option! We had a party of 8 to include grandparents and teenagers (celebrated a 17th birthday) and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place. We LOVED the concept of having the main house and then 4 individual suites each with their own bathroom (we had 6 girls total). The house had everything you need to cook or grill. Tons of pots and pans and kitchen appliances. The hosts were SUPER easy to work with, friendly and very responsive before and throughout our stay. Very easy access to the house and had very clear instructions on how to use things. Loved the special touch of having waters and snacks in each bedrooms. Beds were all super comfortable - we literally felt right at home. However, I think the most amazing feature about this house was the peaceful setting. We were touring college campuses, the city, etc. and have very busy lives when at home, and it was so nice and very relaxing to come back to the house and have total peace and quiet while watching the deer across the pond. They have two rocking chairs on the front porch that overlook the pond and that quickly became my favorite place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. Not to mention the deer literally come into the yard when you'd least expect them. Simply spectacular! Again, we had nothing but a positive experience with this house - and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone visiting the Austin area. We were a little further out than we originally wanted to be, but it is definitely worth the few extra minutes in the car.

Perfect for families!

We were a multigenerational family in town for a wedding. The property itself is exactly as the pictures show, and even better in person. We had a very relaxing long weekend and wish we could have stayed longer. We walked the trail around the property and saw 3 deer (who visited us again the next morning). The kids (and adults) spent a lot of time out on the huge deck watching the turtles in the pond. We didn’t cook, but I’ve never seen a better stocked kitchen. The small fridges in each room stocked with water was a nice surprise. The house was conveniently located to everything. We had a couple great dinners at Salt Lick BBQ and Flores’ Mexican Restaurant and were close to an HEB for everything else. We all hope to return soon!

About the host

Hosted by Leo Cormier

Host profile image
My name is Leo and my wife’s name is Kim. We have six children, all young adults now and three grandchildren. We are originally from SW Louisiana where we attended college at McNeese State University. I went on to get a doctorate degree at Life University and an MBA at the University of Texas here in Austin. We moved to Austin in the mid 1990s. As a food enthusiast, I (Leo) enrolled in the Le Cordon Bleu Austin Culinary Academy where I became a chef. Being from SW Louisiana where good food and good times go together, we do a great deal of cooking in our home. We often have large BBQ’s and crawfish boils with our family and friends.

Why they chose this property

This property is unique for being as large as it and still located in Austin. We are fortunate to have 36 secluded acres of woodland and pastures, without a view of another house while in the area of the house and yard. Kim and I have raised six children and the desire for each of them to have privacy with their families is what inspired the design of this house. Our home is approximately 3400 sq feet but has another 1500 sq ft of porches and patios. With maximum privacy for each guest in mind, our home is built as three separate buildings on the same slab; a main house that has the kitchen, living, laundry, office, and master bedroom/bath; and 2 bunkhouse located under the same roof 12’ on either side of the main house. This is a total of 5 bedrooms, each with its own private bath. Each 800 sq ft bunkhouse is divided into two very large bedroom suites (21’x18’) that each have a walk-in closet, tv, and private bathroom with a shower/tub in them. Each bunkhouse is appointed differently with one having two kings and others just one king or queen bed.

There are two things we especially like about this property and that is you can sit out on the porch and see a great deal of wildlife coming to the feeders or pond and not see any other houses; and the second is that while you seem far out in the country, you are really close to both Austin and Dripping Springs. You can be on 6th street for SXSW or ACL in about 21 minutes or in Dripping Springs in about 12. Shopping is much closer than that with Barton Creek Mall, Sunset Valley shopping (lots of stores) Kohl’s, Costco, Sam’s, Whole Foods, etc.. about 20 minutes away. Also in that time frame is fantastic dining: Salt Lick BBQ (3 min), Trattoria Lisina Restaurate/Vineyard, (a must visit!) restaurant and vineyard, and many craft breweries 10-15 minutes away; a few right down the road.

What makes this property unique

The secluded nature of this lovely hill country property, while being close in to Austin is its most unique feature. And as an avid golfer, I’ve set up a nice little range to practice my wedge shots and short game. Bring your clubs and golf balls and you are welcome to use it. I’ll provide the shag bag for you to pick up your balls. And being a chef, I have a variety of BBQ pits, smokers, and grills that I would be willing to share if you promise to take care of them. In other words, we want you to have a special time here and will do what we can to ensure that happens, just please take care of our place like it was yours.
