About this property

Completely remodeled in 2020, 2 bedroom Ocean Front Building 1 at Kona Makai.

Come and enjoy our little Piece of Paradise in one the most beautiful complexes in Kona. Located just one mile south of the town of Kailua-Kona on Alii Drive. The unit, 1204, is on the second floor of building 1, the best building in the complex with ocean views from both sides.

In 2019 both bathrooms were completely remodeled. Walk-in shower in master bath, tub/shower combo in guest bath. New vanities and new fixtures throughout including new tile with new lighting. Master bathroom has a turtle theme and guest bathroom has a seahorse theme.

In May of 2020, our kitchen was completely remodeled. It received new tile floors, new cabinets, beautiful new quartz countertop, new microwave, range and dishwasher, washer/dryer combo unit, new lighting, and many more upgrades.

We also put vinyl plank flooring in living room, hallway and both bedrooms. The whole unit has a fresh coat of paint to go along with new custom window treatments.

Also new to the unit is the master bedroom set, sofa sleeper couch, coffee and end tables. (New dining room set and entertainment cabinet coming in March)

This has a fully equipped kitchen which includes a stove, refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer. The living room/dining room has a 48 inch flat screen TV with DVD player and cable TV. Seating for 4 at the indoor dining table and seating for 4 at the lanai table. The master bedroom has a deluxe king size bed with private bathroom and access to the lanai. Guest bedroom has 2 twin beds (which can be converted to one king size bed) with access to the second bathroom. Ocean view and sounds can be distinctively heard from both bedrooms. All towels and bed linens are provided as well as a hair dryer, iron and ironing board. Unit has 6 beach chairs, 4 beach mats, 2 boogie boards, 4 beach towels, cooler, games, puzzles and Hawaii Travel Guide book. The complex has a communal library for your use. The unit has air conditioning in each bedroom and living room. It also has 6 ceiling fans and 3 tower fans to keep the air moving for your comfort. Free wifi is provided in the unit. Beautifully landscaped complex has a swimming pool with salt water system, hot tub, tennis courts, ping pong, 2 exercise rooms and oceanfront gas barbeque grills and dining area. Free parking for your car with security gate at night. Watch sunsets from your lanai or when you're feeling more social go down to the ocean seating where others gather daily to socialize and enjoy a beverage. Kona Makai has everything you need to enjoy your Hawaiian getaway located near restaurants, shopping, the farmers' market, parasailing, jet ski and longboard rentals and whale watching. 2 1/2 miles south on Alii Drive is Kahalu'u Beach with some of the islands best snorkeling. Make this a vacation you'll always remember!

Relaxing stay in Kona area

This two bedroom condo is perfect for parents with kids or a few friends. The location is awesome. Located on the ocean side of the main street, but due to the design of the complex it feels secluded. The complex is gated, the unit is on the second floor, and is easily accessed. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen is clean and adequately equipped. The complex pool and gas barbecues are nearby. Both are cleaned daily. The entire complex has beautiful landscaping and the views of the ocean are incredible. Sunsets every night are majestic and are the only time we noticed a crowd at the complex. The management team is super responsive and informative. I would highly recommend this location. Thank you for a wonderful week in paradise.

Wonderful Big Island Condo

This condo is amazing and in a great location. My wife and I stayed here for 8 nights and loved every minute of it. The interior of the unit is immaculate and is stocked with everything you need. Daybreak and sunset on the lanai is special and shouldn't be missed. The grounds of the complex are well kept and quiet. We especially liked the BBQ area, which is right by the water. We'll be back for sure!

Perfect Stay in Kailua-Kona

What a wonderful home base for our visit to Kona! Close to so many restaurants, shops and beaches. It was also centrally located for trips to Green Sand Beach and Waikoloa. We loved it!

Perfect and clean!

This condo was extremely clean, updated and fully stocked with anything you might need including all kitchen/cooking supplies, beach towels, beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, and boogie board. Greg and Wendy were excellent to work with and their communication was always quick and effective. The management company does an excellent job of maintaining the property and pool. We were here for the Ironman and the location was excellent. You could easily walk or drive to the pier/downtown area or explore nearby beaches. We had this placed reserved over 2 years ago due to Ironman being canceled twice for Covid. Greg and Wendy always honored and moved our reservation forward to the next rescheduled date. In the weeks leading up to the race, we had heard many people having their reservation canceled last minute and left without accommodations. Greg and Wendy were in constant communication and verified our reservation. I cannot thank them enough for keeping our anxiety at bay and sharing their wonderful place with us. Highly recommend.

Good location

The condo is updated and very clean. It has everything you need in the kitchen and to go to the beach. Good location but found it beneficial to have a car. Great views of the sunset from the lanai. If you are looking for a laid back and quiet vacation spot this is a good option.

Peaceful Paradise

Relaxing family trip

Nice Location

The condos are in a great location - short drive to downtown and right on the ocean. The condos have a pool and community BBQs which we took advantage of on several occasions. The condo itself is nice. The lanai has an ocean view but is in the shade for the entirety of the day, which was nice for us to escape the sun but still enjoy the outdoors. The unit has a kitchen with any cookware you may need. The beds are comfortable and there is AC in every room. Overall, the unit was great for our stay.

Not as good as myexpectation

The Kona Makai condo is in a very nice location. There are a lots of kitchen utencils pots pans and even rice cooker. Beach chairs imbrellas and boogie boards. I don't give 5 stars because The unit we stayed is pretty old and rundown. The carpet has so many big dirty stain. The towels putting in the bathrooms for us smell like clothes that were not dried properly. There were three lamps in one of the bedrooms but only 1 works. The manager fixed it the next day. The lights in the bathroom in the hallway were sometimes dim down by itself so putting make up on in the bathroom is not possible. The toilet seat came off. There was no hair dryer and no extra garbage bag. The property coordinator brought them to us the last day. For garbage bag, there was no extra. So to get more bag the property manager had to asked owner permission if he could buy extra for us. I belive garbage bag should always be available. We had stayed for 5 nights and we got only 1 garbage bag. If you come here, bring your own shampoo. They only provide 1 set hotel size in their welcome pack. So if you swim every day that will not be enough.

Beautiful place to stay

We enjoyed our stay at Wendy and Greg's beautiful condo. Two spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen and beautiful sunset views. The tropical garden grounds are very well kept and pool and grills very close to this unit. Beach chairs, cooler, boogie boards and snorkel masks were very handy. Would definitely book again!

A great place to stay while in Kona

This was our 2nd time staying at Kona Makai. First time was building 5 and this one was definitely better. Wendy & Greg were very responsive in all our communications. They would reply very quickly & were very friendly. The unit was big enough for 4 of us to have our own space. The Lanai was great to sit on & enjoy the sunsets & waves. since it was northwest facing, it wasn't hot in the morning. The back bedroom had great winds & ocean sounds at night. We never used the air conditioner & stayed in August. It was perfect with the windows open at night. The option for moving the two twin beds to a king was great. The bedding & instructions were all provided. Bathroom provided 2 rolls of tp, a bar of soap & travel shampoo/conditioner (for those interested). The kitchen had many items stocked for use - dishes, pots/pans. I would recommend a bottle of hand soap to stay in kitchen and both bathrooms. Also maybe a roll of aluminum foil would be helpful. The unit also had boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, adult snorkels & masks (no fins), sand toys, reusable bags & beach bag in the basket by the door. The washer & dryer came in handy for packing light. There was a bottle of detergent above dryer for our use. There were some puzzles & games. There was a copy of the 8th edition of the Big Island Revealed (the best book for the big island). I would definitely recommend this unit while staying in Kona (I have been 4 times & stayed in different places each time, each has pros/cons). Kona Makai is 1 mile south of downtown, so not as convenient to walk into town but easily doable. Many people walk/run along Ali'i drive and it is safe. It is a gated condominium and kept very clean. My daughter loved the pool & the ping pong table. They have lounge chairs & grills by the ocean & easy access to lava rocks & ocean just west of that. I would definitely recommend 1-204 to anyone coming to Kona.

Wonderful Location and Unit

The property is a bit out of town, which we prefer. Its very quiet and has a pool and ocean front. The unit itself has everything that you could wish for, is well appointed and offers good beach stuff to borrow. There were a few small problems and the property manager was responsive. The ultimate question for us is would we go back? And the answer is yes for this unit.

Gorgeous Sunsets

We had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The beach chairs, cooler, and boogie boards were helpful. The property is a beautiful paradise and very quiet. I could live in this 2 bedroom unit comfortably. We especially enjoyed the views from 2 sides of the unit.

Great condo in a great location

We really enjoyed the condo and the overall property. The location was great and all the extras like the pool, bbq’s and cabana were added benefits. The condo is well stock with everything you need for a day outing like chairs, umbrellas, coolers, snorkel gear. That stuff adds up quickly if you need to buy it. Greg and Wendy have a nice condo and we really enjoyed using it.

We have been coming to Kona for over 20 years. It is our favorite place on the planet. We dreamed about owning a little piece of paradise someday and that has come true in 2018! We live in Northern California and look forward to our trips to Kona.

Why they chose this property

We bought this condo because we love Kona Makai. It is so beautiful and quiet. The grounds are immaculate. There is a security gate that is locked at night. Pool is very nice. Solar panels were just installed in 2018 to make it more energy efficient.
We chose 1204 because it is in building 1 where you can hear the ocean from both sides of the unit. We love hearing the ocean when we sleep.
