Slice of heaven!

My wife and I stayed with my parents for two weeks at this wonderful house. It is a true slice of heaven. Very secluded, quiet, beautiful property with one of the less developed lakes right in front of the house. Fireplace on the lawn and on the private beach. We swam everyday, fished, had bbqs and relaxed on the lawn in front of the house. Very private which is nice. The location is great for trips into the wilderness or old forge for more family fun. The hosts are wonderful people who went out of their way to accommodate us. Thank you! The house is spacious with a bedroom downstairs with great lake views and two bedrooms upstairs, including two bathrooms and a well stocked kitchen. Canoe and standup paddle boards are provided as well. The grill and two firepits outside make for great bonfires and bbqs. 5 stars across the board.

Peaceful, quiet and relaxing

Interesting place! Part of a 25 acre former children's camp that has been in the family for 40+ years. Some of the property has been converted to very quaint waterfront housing. Bear Lodge is the name of the camp that we rented for 2 weeks; a 3 bedroom, 2 bath with gas fireplace unit. It's part of the gated larger camp that has 1500+ feet of waterfront (not all useable). Bear Lodge's waterfront is a sandy beach and very private. The water is clear and supplies the Utica area for drinking water. There is another sandy beach a short walk away. The restaurants are pretty good, especially Rocky's on the lake. There's an ice cream and fast food place just down the road, and the best cheese at the Citgo station.

Rustic cottage right on the lake

A lovely, rustic cottage right on Hinckley Reservoir. Richard and Cophelia were gracious and responsive hosts. We enjoyed our stay at their property. It is very well located for hikes in the lower Adirondacks.

GREAT spot for relaxing and access to Adirondack Park and Mohawk Valley

We had high hopes for a great two weeks in and around Adirondack Park, and were not disappointed. This lovely, spacious cabin is situated right at the edge of the park, with easy access to great hiking in the area, as well as to any shopping you might want to do in Utica. And if you want to just lounge around the house, there is plenty of beautiful outdoor space and easy access to water activities on the Hinkley reservoir, which is basically in the backyard. Richard and Coffee were great hosts. We are already trying to map out a return trip next year.

Wonderful stay

We loved our week long stay at this property. The highlight is the private access to the beautiful lake and the lovely lake views from the home. The home feels private and secluded but has easy access to stores, restaurants and other amenities. The property owners were very easy to deal with. We hope to return soon.

Peaceful retreat

We were three adults and two children, 3 and 7. The lake was beautiful. Although, the lake was somewhat rocky and leafy directly in front of the house, a short walk away it was much sandier. There was plenty of room for the kids to run and play. We enjoyed our morning coffee overlooking the water, days swimming and evenings around the outdoor fire pit.

Great getaway cottage for the family!

Great cottage filled with everything you need. The kids loved the ability to walk right down to the water to fish every morning and evening. Great swimming from the beach also. Outdoor grill provided and nice seating area by water where you can eat and view the lake or drink your morning coffee. Spacious inside cottage with cable tv and WiFi. Great hosts who are only a phone call away if you need anything. We truly enjoyed our stay. Cannot wait to go back next year.

Great lake cabin!

The remodeled cabin had everything we needed for a mini-vacation. The owners were very accommodating & even let us use their canoe to have some water time. We loved the deck above the beach & enjoyed our morning coffee & our dinner there.

Host profile image
We (Richard and Cophelia Pertz) are retired professionals (attorney and veterinarian) who are managing a summer recreational property that has been in Richard's family since 1945, and he has been involved with it his whole life. Cophelia's involvement started in 1964.
We have managed the property since 1976, while pursuing our professional careers. We now devote most of our time in the snow-free months to the property.
Most of the property is used for a children's summer camp ("Camp Northwood"). Our home is on the property. We offer two properties ("The Stables" and "Bear Lodge") for summer use by the public.

Why they chose this property

This is a charming and inviting cottage on a gorgeous setting overlooking the lake and offering direct access to a private deck and beach and the water beyond. Although there are others around, the property is well secluded.

What makes this property unique

Because we live on the same overall property and are engaged here in a property management business in which we have a cumulative century of experience and for which we maintain a continous maintenance operation, we are available to handle anything that might come up and provide the highest level of attention and service.
