Or just put your feet up, take in your beautiful surroundings, roast marshmallows around the fire pit, let the kids fish and catch critters while you read a book, watch a movie, and relax away from it all. Enjoy the serenity of kayaking/boating around the beautiful area to view the abundance of wildlife. Bring your poles and fish right off the dock or take out the kayaks/boat to try your luck fishing out in the bay. Fishermen will find a variety of fish including whitefish, lake trout, perch, brook trout, northern pike, smallmouth bass, chinook salmon and walleye in Port Bay and Lake Ontario. You may see a variety of wildlife right from the property including beaver, cranes, swans, geese, turtles, frogs and other creatures.

A rocky beach with swimming in Lake Ontario is a quick 5 minute drive up the road. Fair Haven Beach is 8 miles from the cottage and offers a spectacular sandy beach, playground, hiking, and be sure to include a stop at Colloca Winery! Visit Wolcott or Fair Haven for an ice cream, stop at a diner, visit local wineries/breweries or browse stores for some local treasures. A 25 minute drive takes you to Sodus Beach and Lighthouse. Also heading West is the infamous Chimney Bluffs, spectacular views, hiking, and a small beach area. Should you have a boat, there are two free boat launches on Port Bay, or find a fishing charter, or rent a pontoon!

Salmon fishing in Oswego River (30 minute drive) or up in Black River (90 minute drive). The Finger Lakes are less than an hour away if looking for a full day wine tour along Cayuga Lake, a visit to Belhurst Castle along Seneca Lake, shopping at the Waterloo Outlets, or finding other hiking trails. Niagara Falls, the 1,000 Islands, and a visit to the Adirondack Mountains also make great day trips within a 2-3 hours drive. Port Bay in Wolcott, NY is a hidden gem as it is an ideal location for many different adventures. Experience as much or as little as you want while on vacation!

**Please note: You should be physically able to walk up and down a hill, as you will need to do this to walk from the parking area, house, fire pit, and dock. Some hill areas are steep.**

Excellent location for hiking and kayaking
We used this cottage as a home base for lots of hiking in the area. We enjoyed kayaking in the bay. We used the fire pit two nights and had s'mores. A rustic retreat.

Quick 5 Day Retreat w/ Family
Overall the property met our needs but there were positives and negatives. The house had amenities and with prior communication with the owners, we brought what we needed (electric skillet, muffin pan, and glass 13x9 pan for example). The bedrooms were clean and enough for their purpose. The backyard was nice and the area was quiet. We enjoyed the fire pit and visiting birds. The selection of games was nice. My husband and I ended up buying the game Rumikub because we enjoyed it so much. Great beach nearby! Really nice historical town within 7 minutes drive. The cushions outside were soaking wet and we could not use them for 2 days as we waited for them to dry inside the house. This was annoying because I wanted to sit on the deck, comfortably. Also, there is no mirror in the bathroom (why?... You could put one on the back door) and only one useable mirror in one of the bedrooms that had to be shared. Some of us got poison ivy from the poison ivy that grows right where you get in and out of the car on the parking pad. We saw it, obviously late. That really put a damper on things :(. I feel like that was unnecessary and very preventable. When your unloading cars, your not expecting that on the parking spots.. in the wooded or weed areas, yes. Strip of woods were 20' away. I felt that these 3 significant things were avoidable and fair to state here. There was an air conditioner, but it was not nearly strong enough for the cabin. Hard to sleep in the bedrooms being so hot

An Excellent Relaxing Stay!
The property was great, and the hosts were wonderful. The back of the cottage overlooks a channel of Port Bay. We spent a lot of time on the deck birdwatching there were several white swans that nest right in that area, so it was very entertaining. Played the golf course three minutes up the road most every morning and we will certainly be there to visit again in the future. Thank you!

Quiet & Serenity
Lake cottages all smell musty initially. It is the nature of being on the water. The male swan patrolling the inlet kept the pair of Canada geese from disturbing the nest. The location of the nest is unknown. However, access to kayaks and a paddle boat could have provided the answer. I wasn't able to locate a life preserver so, I didn't investigate. The cottage is comfortable. The wifi works in close proximity to a computer but cell service was sometimes spotty. TV reception was good. Furniture arrangement for viewing could be better as well as lighting over dining table and bedside for reading. Overall I was pleased with the location. Wonderful place for a vacationing family who isn't dependent on electronics. I was visiting family for a funeral. The location was perfect for decompressing and reflection.

Great Lake House getaway!
I rented this house for a four-day weekend, where there were four adults and a small toddler under the age of two. Check in was very easy. The home was clean, cozy and all that was expected. Kitchen was easy to work with. The best part that we experienced was the outdoors. We thoroughly enjoyed the yard, access to the lake, all of the kayaks, water sports, and games provided within the home. Our just under two-year-old had great fun as the home was well equipped for a small child. We really enjoyed the neighborhood which was very quiet and exploring in and around the neighborhoods. Went for a great hike at Clifton Bluffs park :-)

Location was very convenient to visit friends and family. Wi-fi worked well. The hill was a bit of a climb down to the cabin but even our elderly aunt made it easily with her walker. Enjoyed sitting on both the deck and the sunroom.

Tucked away
Very quiet for our large family, we enjoyed the camp, kayaks & pedal boat… Fishing off dock was a bummer because of weeds. Fair Haven is very close & we spent most days there. We enjoyed the campfire as well. The hill down to the dock is steep but manageable. We had a lot of fun!

Quiet Retreat
We experienced a peaceful, relaxing setting and enjoyed watching the beaver, swans, geese and assorted wildlife on the water. Exploring the area we found antiques, museums, wineries, distilleries, state parks but did have to travel a bit. We enjoyed the amenities at this cottage which included usage of a peddle boat and kayaks. We loved venturing out on Port Bay and seeing the Swans on their nests along the shore line . A very enjoyable experience.

Our Home Base for a Wonderful Week in CNY
What drew me to this cottage listing was the privacy compared to other cabins in the area. Surrounded by trees and quiet neighbors, we enjoyed many cups of coffee both sitting on the porch during sunny mornings, or listening to the rain in the enclosed porch. The location actually made a great base of operation for our day trips. One day west towards Rochester, the next south through wine country to Ithaca, north to Alexandria Bay, and finally east towards the Adirondacks. I did not plan it that way but the Wolcott cottage was perfectly located for all our adventures. At the end of each day, we’d return to our little home away from home and enjoy the moon beaming through the trees or rain pattering on the roof. The cabin was clean and cozy when we arrived. We slept like babies in master bed with flannel sheets. Christie was a fantastic host sending us to all the best places like the adorable town of Fair Haven and Ray Ray’s for some unbelievable garlic knots. We are already talking about our next trip to New York and hope to return soon to the Wolcott Cottage.

Aok
Property mgr was attentive and kind. As advertised, with one window AC for entire house...would love to have had at least one more. Fans only in the bedrooms. I accept that the house is on a lake in the great outdoors, and there are too many cobwebs in general for "Premier Host" status. I encourage the housekeeping team do a deep clean. Otherwise, our visit was aok. Thank you!

This cottage home was perfect! It was clean, kid friendly with games/movies and fishing off the dock. My niece and nephew caught perch, sunfish and small bass. The kayaks were perfect if you wanted to get on the water. There were several activities close by that we did. Hiking at Chimneys Bluff, visiting the Fairhaven Beach, renting a pontoon boat @ Bay Bridge Sports Shop and visiting local wineries. Would love to get back sooner than later.

Wonderful Lake House in Upstate New York!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at this Lake House. It is definitely off the beaten path and perfect for our three kids to explore the lake with the kayaks. We marveled at the wildlife (claim to have seen a real life marmot), enjoyed the waves at Lake Ontario, and loved the beach at Sodus Point. Working with the rental owner was a treat. She was so responsive, providing directions to the local grocery store and laundromat. It was on her advice we went to Lake Ontario and Sodus Point (so close and perfect for our little family). We went to Niagara Falls (2.5 hours drive) and Palmyra (1 hour drive). The house is quaint and cozy - perfect for taking a much needed break from the normal daily rat race. I would love to come back and enjoy this rental home in the future!

About the host

Hosted by Christie Baglio

Host profile image
Christie & Nick found this cottage to have adventures with their family and allow other families to enjoy this gem. Our family is from nearby Rochester, NY. We have three boys that keep us busy between school activities and sports. Our family enjoys getting outdoors- hiking, swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing, etc. We also enjoy traveling, movies, and art.

Why they chose this property

Our family purchased this property in June 2018. We fell in love with the location on the water along with the privacy this property offers, including that feeling of serenity our cozy cottage brings to us. Our boys have fun playing in the spacious yard and marsh area, going out on the boat to explore the shores of Lake Ontario and finding new swimming spots and beaches in the area. We enjoy fishing from the dock and in the bay, roasting marshmallows around the fire, and viewing the many birds (cranes, swans, geese), frogs, beaver, and other creatures that wander by. We know our family (and yours!) will make plenty of memories here.

What makes this property unique

We are happy to be on a quiet outlet of Port Bay, so we can boat, kayak, fish, enjoy s’mores by the fire, sip coffee on the deck, catch lightening bugs, and still have a quiet, private experience. The cottage is an hour away from where we live, so it is an ideal location to feel away from it all but also not too far, either!
