Highland Lakefront Cabin

Lakeside Cottage with 1 bedroom and loft area for sleeping. Boat dock, fishing, swimming, enjoying the lake and nearby Portland are just a taste of what this getaway will provide. Have the feeling of camping with a good taste of home living for those who don't like to rough it. Big deck overlooking the lake and a sitting area with fire pit. Lots of room for tents should you want to stay outside on our 1.7 acre lot. Paddle boat and life vest provided. Portland 20 minutes away and the lakes region area about 15 minutes. Note, water to camp is Lake fed (non potable). There's a 5 gallon water cooler/dispenser for drinking. No Oven. Sorry NO Pets allowed.

*Dock will be removed for season starting Nov. 1.

Cute rustic rental

The cottage was true to the listing it's not fancy, but has what you need at a very reasonable price. We enjoyed Highland Lake and the surrounding area. We brought kayaks and toured the whole lake.

Lake Cottage

We had a very nice stay and enjoyed both the cottage and property. It was a bit rainy, so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the fire pit area, but it looked great. There are a few places that could use some updates, but this is a true lake cottage, so it's really like elevated camping.

Not too bad

the scenery was great. we were unable to utilize the outdoor deck area much because of the amount of bird poop on the table, furniture and deck. this was actually one of the main reasons we picked this place because of the outside deck area. disappointed we couldn't use it. we tried cleaning it but it would not come off. we had to baby sit the toilet because it would not shut off and would run pump if you did not make sure tank was full. the fridge leaked a lot inside the bottom part of the fridge, had to keep a bowl to capture water. smelled very muggy. dock was unusable due to the amount of duck poop. no way to clean it. paddle boat leaked around the pedals. Zero privacy. needs some type of window coverings for nighttime. overall, pretty relaxing.

Weekend getaway for wedding

If you’re looking to wake up to a beautiful lake view in the morning, you won’t be disappointed. The sunrise breaking through the trees into the windows each morning was lovely. We didn’t spend a lot of time at the cabin so didn’t mind that there wasn’t an oven. The heater did a great job of taking off the chill. There was ample supply of water provided so we didn’t need to worry about usage. Extra TP in bathroom and a roll of paper towels was appreciated. We watched tv at night and had great reception. The place is rustic and I expected that. It’s old and a bit wonky—sloped floors, toilet with shims underneath.. Cleanliness is of high importance and this is why I gave a 3 star rating. The beds were all nice—but the living room furniture is very old and stained. We covered the couch with a bedspread so we could sit on it. I understand that being located in the woods creates a mess—but the table and all the outdoor seats were so covered in bird poop that it was impossible to sit on. Great location and scenery—-but needs furniture upgrade to really enjoy it.

Adorable little cottage on the lake

Clean, cozy, quiet, tucked in the woods, on a lake. Feels like you're in nature, away from the sounds of the city, but actually not too far from anything you might need. The calls of the loons at night were magnificent. Not too far a drive from Portland and Old Orchard Beach.

Wet incline makes for many falls

The stay was great. The one pit fall was the stairs that includes a flat incline that doesn’t have any type of slip resistant upgrade and with wet weather it was a recipe for falls.

Great getaway

Perfect location for a getaway. The property had everything you need and was very comfortable for a family of 4. Lake is beautiful, lot is big and very quiet, and the location is very close to grocery stores, restaurants, and sightseeing. Very short drive to Portland and we were even able to get food delivered one night. Would definitely stay again.

Clean, rustic lakefront cabin

The cabin was very clean, and as described in the listing. When we visited, it was a heat wave - should the same happen to you, note that the air conditioning is the equivalent of a room air conditioner. 99% of the time it likely isn't necessary, but our first night was pretty uncomfortable. Also note that as it says in the description, there is no stove or oven. It is ~20 minutes to downtown Portland, and not much close by. The lake is beautiful, but a bit muddy for swimming right from the house without rafts. Overall a good stay, but the description is accurate.

Great lake views

The cabin is very clean and nice but has major slant especially in downstairs bedroom. There is an ant problem, but nothing to put you off staying in a relaxing environment

Cute Cottage for a family escape vacation

Unfortunately thr weather was rainy and windy when we went. My boys had a great time( age 4 and 7) situated in outdoors and near a lake was so pretty. The fire pit was fun. Easy access and commute to get into downtown Portland. The cottage itself was quaint and decor was very cute with matching color scheme. It was not cluttered and very well kept. Contact with owner was prompt and reliable. We would totally stay again.

Lake cabin

It was ok. I'm surprised the owner rents out the cabin so late in the Fall. The only heat is portable heaters and it was chilly in the cabin. We couldn't ever get warm! The other issue we had was with the shower. I was in the shower for less than 5 minutes, got all suds up, and the water pressure went to a dribble.

What makes this property unique

The sun comes up on the opposite side of the lake. Very nice to spend time on shore or dock with coffee, fishing, or going for a paddle boat ride. Nice elevated view of the lake from the cottage.
