Such a wonderful place to stay. The accommodations are cozy and quaint. Just enough room for 2 people. The farm animals are so adorable and loved getting attention. This will be our go-to place when we are back in this area.

Very clean and cute farmstay.
Be prepared, this is a farmstay and they have working livestock guard dogs. That means you will hear dogs barking at night :) Enjoyed the comfy bed.
We spent our Labor Day weekend at Historic Grain Cottage on Highland Cow Farm and were immersed in the middle of this working farm. The accomodations were cozy and rustic and we thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the cows, goats, chickens, cats, and horse. We felt safe guarded by our 2 sweet and gentle pups Sadie and Murphy (Great Pyrenees) as they patrolled the area. Our new friends, owners John and Sheri, are awesome hosts and we enjoyed their stories of the history of the farm. Thank you both for your kindness and engaging with our spiritual talks. We will definitely be back again and again.

Awesome Cottage
The one room cottage is cozy and perfect - every amenity you need is right there. Wake up in the morning to a cup of coffee in your room and head out to the porch to watch the farm come to life as the sun rises. The way the Grain Cottage has been renovated is really amazing and has so much charm. It is right behind a historic home that is amazing. Lovely views and sounds, private and secluded but not far at all from some yummy Thai food and downtown fun, and an easy drive to Asheville. Sheri is sweet and helpful- she responded in a nanosecond to my email and pointed me towards restaurant options on my way towards the Cottage. Stay Here. You will love it.
We enjoyed staying on this working farm. It was a great getaway that’s close to lake lure and we were able to bring our dog with. The owners are very friendly and we enjoyed getting to know them a bit.
The property is lovely and fascinating. The hosts are warm and enjoyable. The animals are a wonderful addition to the experience. The location is close enough that we never felt far from Lake Lure, but we didn’t feel like we were at all in town.
The farm was a really great place to stay, the animals are all entertaining, the hosts are accommodating and very lovely people, the lodging is in a perfect area between places to visit. We had a wonderful time
The property was a great place to relax. The accommodations were just as described. Very quaint and inviting and the property managers were extremely friendly, welcoming, prompt with communications and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
We enjoyed sitting outside our cozy grain cottage eating our meals supplemented by tomatoes and herbs from the garden. We were welcomed by Sadie a Newfoundland dog who looked me right in the eyes and when I stopped petting him a paw was placed on my knee and it would stay there until I resumed petting. The owner called it the "tyranny paw". The owners were great.
Staying here was a real treat. Each morning I ate breakfast out on the deck while being entertained by the goats. The view is serene with rolling meadows and livestock in the background and flower gardens nearby. Sheri and John are welcoming and friendly and really have a whimsical and wholesome spirit. I will stay there again, for sure, if I return to the area.
We are in love with this place, we can't wait to come back! From the quaint grain cabin to the farm lifestyle it is breathtakingly beautiful! We feel refreshed and rested. Thank you Sheri and John for opening up your beautiful world to us.
This is a great option if you want something different from a standard hotel. You stay in the former grain storage at a small active farm. Goats, chickens, cows, cats, dogs greet you, the overall property is well maintained and pretty, and the grain cottage, though small, is very well decorated so it's a pleasure to spend time in. Private and so lovely. We didn't want to leave but will be back.
Very relaxing stay. Enjoyed the farm animals in their natural setting. Although we were close to main house, we felt we were given our privacy. Located in a pretty but convenient location to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.

Beautiful Farm Stay
Within a short drive to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, the farm was a very relaxing and welcoming retreat. The animals are adorable and did not wake us up at all (despite a fear after reading other reviews).

Enjoyable mini farm vacation near beautiful Lake Lure in western NC
We had a great time during our stay at this wonderful mini-farm. The owners are very nice and there was always something happening in the various pastures surrounding the grain cottage.
The cottage is just a couple miles from Lake Lure which has lots of activities including lake trails, nearby breweries, hiking at Chimney Rock, boating, kayaking and more. The cottage provided a central location for our outings to nearby Asheville, Sierra Nevada Brewery, equestrian facilities and - had we had our clubs along - several golf courses.

About the host
Hosted by Sheri Crenshaw
Moved to this area in 2013 from Hendersonville, NC to make live my dream of owning a farm. It has been a labor of love as we have slowly restored the old farmhouse and property. We can't wait to share it with you.
Why they chose this property
It was established in 1910 and was used by a Doctor Rucker then sold to the Biggerstaff. In 2013 we purchased from them. We are the 3rd owner of the home and property. Although many of the family still lives close by. We loved that the Biggerstaffs ran it as a farm and we have learned many stories over time about the property. We love history and nastalgia, and love the farm life.
What makes this property unique
We are visionaries but the home had good bones and we knew that we could make it shine. The property needed some TLC and landscaping and gardens, repair fencing for farm animals. All have been done to create the perfect retreat or get away. Enjoy the goats as they frolic the Cows and the Sheep. There are several swings on property and many gardens to peruse along with all the animals.
