An extraordinary townhouse in Essaouira’s enchanting medina

Three minutes from the souks and five minutes from Essaouira’s beach and fishing port is Dar Rondé, a riad townhouse with rounded walls, Berber doorways, vibrantly coloured stone floors and fireplaces set deep in to soaring white walls. Designed by Maria Pergay, the house is spread over three floors with two large en-suite bedrooms, one kingsize, one twin, a private sauna and two secluded terraces (one in the middle, one on the roof). A garden of palms fills the tiled courtyard as you enter the house, circled by glass walls, there is an entertainment room with traditional beldi ceiling and a salon with long sofas and spacious dining area.


Private cook: On your first evening, house chef, Yusef will prepare a welcoming, complimentary tagine to restore you after your long journey here. Every morning, breakfast will be provided (included in the price) ranging from breads, omelettes and fruit salad to yoghurts and traditional Moroccan style delights.

Should you wish to dine-in on other days, Yusef will prepare meals for you at additional cost.

Great place to stay in Essaouira. Kamar and her team make you really feel at home.
We stayed for 3 nights with our daghter. The pickup from the airport worked well and our driver was very careful. Dar Ronde was delightful. A very spacious and airy place to stay. The breakfasts were a great start to the day and the evening meal one night was a very tasty local tagine. Thoroughly recommended.

Interesting house in Essaouira's medina
Lots of space in this property which is on 4 levels. Good communication with property owner and with Kamar who was there to meet us and show us around. Meal on first night and breakfasts were very good. Convenient for getting around the medina once you get used to the maze of lanes. We really liked Essaouira, which has a lot of character and is much more laid back than Marrakesh. Good seafood down by the port. Only consideration for some would be the steep stairs to the upper floors but that's typical of many properties in Morocco.

Wir hatten wundervolle Tage in dem Haus. Am ersten Abend gab es eine super leckere Tagine. Hier wurde auch ganz unkompliziert Rücksicht genommen auf vegetarische Essenswünsche. Jeden Morgen gab es ein wunderbares Frühstück mit Weißbrot,Obst , Marmelade und Ei. In der Zeit wurden Zimmer und Bäder sauber gemacht.

Fantastic accommodation. Fabulous Kamar!
We loved everything about this riad. Such an exciting place to be, surrounded by souks and food stalls. Four floors, including a roof top terrace. Cosy places to sit if you want some shade. Loads of space! Best part of our holiday here was our house manager, Kamar. She was funny, kind and ever so helpful. My nine year old son loves Kamar almost as much as I do. I will never forgot Kamar dropping everything to rescue us after we locked our keys in the house AND rushing out to buy pomegranate skins to make a tea that soothed my stomach. So grateful!!

Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour au riad Dar Ronde. Très bon accueil de Kamar, une femme formidable qui prend soin de ses hôtes et qui donne de nombreux conseils pour un séjour réussi ! Sans oublier le délicieux petit-déjeuner servi chaque matin. Le riad est magnifique et très bien placé, toutes les promenades au centre de la médina comme en bord de mer se font à pied. Nous reviendrons avec plaisir !

Lovely stay
Our family had the most beautiful stay in this lovely house in the Medina in Essaoiura. The house is beautiful and the bed was the most comfortable throughout our stay in Morocco. The best with our stay was Kamar, throughout our stay she looked out for us family in the most kind manner and every morning she prepared the most amazing breakfast and always with the consideration of our needs. When we arrived we had a lovely dinner prepared for us. We loved all about our stay and give our deepest thanks to Kamar for making our visit so special.

Wir waren zu dritt als Familie da und von der Zimmer Aufteilung bis zur geschmackvollen Einrichtung war alles zu unserer vollkommener Zufriedenheit. Besonders hervorzuheben war der morgendliche Frühstück Service von Miriam bei dem es an nichts gefehlt hat, sehr abwechslungsreich war und uns mit ihrer lieben Art einen tollen Start in den Tag bereitet hat. Kamar, die Haus Managerin ist eine absolute Perle die wir so in unser Herz geschlossen haben. Von der Abholung vor der Medina (auch um 4 Uhr früh) über Ihre tollen geheimen Tips, von denen wir reichlich Gebrauch gemacht haben, jeder Wunsch wurde erfüllt. Auch die Abstimmung und unsere Fragen an Abbey der Besitzerin wurden schnell beantwortet. Mit Vorfreude angereist, mit Wehmut abgereist können wir diese einzigartige Location nur wärmstens empfehlen.!!

In the medina
This property is located in a the heart of the Medina, in an area inhabited by residents. We would recommend this property if you are staying two or more days. This gives you time to acclimatize to the area and enjoy the comforts of the home. The two ladies who provided cooking and cleaning are delightful. The breakfasts were great. Karmar, the property manager, was very attentive and was happy to arrange private transportation for us. We felt the home looked tired and was in need of new paint, cleaning of tile floors and general “pick up”. However we hear the owner is going to be undertaking some renovations. The home is on four floors and has very narrow stairs in winding staircases. We also felt a little more attention to having some soap and shampoo, and another bedside lamp in the bedroom , and cleaning of the plants would improve the appeal. By the time we left,we were wishing we had booked longer.

We (two couples) were perfectly happy during our 3 day stay in the Dar Ronde in the exciting fishing town of Essaouria. Our email correspondence with Abby went very well and she kindly arranged our transfers from the Marrakesh Airport and then back to Marrakesh. Her Guestbook, available at the Dar Ronde website and in printed form at the Dar itself, gave us all the details we needed to know and a whole lot of other useful information. Kamar, the manager, is a real jewel: warm, friendly, ever-helpful and with a great sense of humour. She lives nearby so was always at our beck and call when we needed her. Ilham, the housekeeper, made us a lovely, diverse breakfast every morning and kept everything spotlessly clean and tidy. The complimentary beef/apricot/prune/almond tajine was absolutely delicious – the best tajine we had! The Dar is situated a bit off the beaten tourist track which made it even more interesting for us. Be sure to take a little time to orient yourself before setting off. I haven’t much to add to the positive comments already made here. As to Essaouria, I can recommend the Restaurant keltoum with a choice of menus. Thanks again to the staff at Dar Ronde! We hope to see you again sometime soon!

Leuk huis met een topmanagement
Mijn schoonvader, vrouw en ik hebben dit bijzondere huis voor 4 dagen gehuurd in september 2018. Qua locatie staat het in de oude Medina en hierdoor ben je binnen een paar minuten in het Centrum van Essaouira. Het huis is leuk ingericht en heeft erg veel ruimte. Enige minpuntje voor ons was de trap, die voor mijn 80-jarige schoonvader best steil was, maar daar staat tegenover een zeer ruime slaapkamer met zitje en een geweldig bed (bijzonder in Marokko) daarnaast is een ander voordeel dat ieder slaapvertrek een eigen toilet en badkamer heeft. Eigenaar Abby reageert vrijwel altijd direct op vragen die je stel en zij heeft voor het dagelijks beheer van de woning het grootste pluspunt van de woning ingehuurd namelijk: manager Kamar en haar assistent. Voor ons was het vanaf de eerste minute gelijk een gevoel van thuiskomen. De gastvrijheid, humor en het enthousiasme die Kamar uitstraalt en werkt door op haar team en maakt dit huis voor ons tot een van de topverblijven. De eerste avond zijn we gelijk begonnen met een heerlijk maaltijd die vanuit het huis wordt aangeboden. Iedere ochtend komt Kamar met haar assistent om een uitgebreid ontbijt te serveren, wat telkens weer verrassing is. Dus voor ons verblijf hebben wij over deze locatie en management (Kamar) maar een waardering dat is echt TOP. Ons leukste verblijf tijdens onze 3 weekse reis in Marroko.

Fabulous house - perfect for a family.
We spent Christmas at Dar Ronde and it was absolutely perfect for us - a family of 2 adults and 2 children (age 10 and 12). The house is large (especially the bedrooms), well-appointed, in a great location and had everything that we needed. Meriam (the housekeeper) and Kamar (the agent) were super-friendly, helpful and really made our holiday special (although it helps a lot to speak French). The breakfasts and dinners that Meriam prepared were delicious and it was such a treat to come down to breakfast that someone else had prepared every morning. The medina is easy to find your way around and the house is on the "quiet" side - but within easy reach of everything, including the beach. All in all, a wonderful place to stay - I would highly recommend it!

Prachtig ruim huis voor 4 in de Medina
Prachtig huis, ruim, mooi gedecoreerd. Dagelijks goed verzorgd ontbijt. Dagelijks worden kamers en badkamers opgeruimd en gereinigd. Prachtig ruim dakterras met liigbedden. In de Medina en vlak bij het strand. Goede WIFI. Heerlijke maaltijden op verzoek.

Supet Haus und Gastgeberin.
Das Haus ust groß und sehr schön eingerichtet. Es liegt in der Medina. In 19 Minuten ist man am Strand und in der Medina gibt es viele Restaurants. Die Unterkunft können wir weiterempfehlen.
