A wonderful place to stay

The superlative reviews for "The Dragonfly" are indeed accurate, our own experience shows. The place is comfortable, clean and conveniently located to many of the attractions in the area, while still affording privacy and peacefulness. Bonnie is a very conscientious host, and her communication is considerate and punctual. We would certainly want to stay here again, should the opportunity to visit the area arise again. Thank you Bonnie for helping to make our short vacation a wonderful and memorable one.

Wonderful stay for our family of 5

My family had a wonderful 3 night stay here! Accommodations were perfect for our family of 5 (Dad, Mom, 14 yr. boy, 10 yr. girl, and 7 yr. boy). The area is beautiful and we would happily return. The hostess is very responsive and kind!! There is also an AMAZING playground just several driveways away that we thoroughly enjoyed for a couple hours during the final night of our stay (We even spent some time there after checking out!). Lastly, my 7 yr. son told me he wanted to live at the Dragonfly 😀. Thank you Bonnie for allowing us to enjoy your winter home, at the end of summer!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Dragonfly! The property was very clean and felt very comfortable right away. I enjoyed the personal touches and family history within the home. Location was great spot to drop paddle boards on little Glen Lake and explore surrounding areas.

Being able to be anywhere near the lake is a blessing. Bonnie was the best host with such kindness and local welcome! Our summer to say goodbye to our family lake house we are selling was made so comfortable with this lovely home. It was clean, cool, and lovely amenities!

Perfect!

The Dragonfly was a perfect place for our sisters' vacation. It is cozy, warm, and welcoming. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, it provided us room to be together without disturbing one another with various sleep routines. The kitchen was extremely well-stocked with everything we needed and more. The antiques and furniture were beautiful and added to the ambiance. We even discovered a new favorite game amongst the many Bonnie has available (Trekking the National Parks). The location is an easy distance from many vacation activities. Bonnie was very kind and welcoming and quickly responded to any questions we had. We want to come back next summer!

Great location, perfect house!

You can go ahead and believe all of the 5-star reviews for this lovely little house. It is immaculate, has beautiful antiques, books and art, comfortable furniture and a beautifully stocked kitchen. It is the six-month home of the host and you can feel her love of the space and an artistic life lived there. I won’t repeat the accurate description of the other amenities, but you will have no regrets choosing to stay here. The location is also perfect for a three day visit to see the splendid beauty of the dunes and coastline.

We loved staying at this place. It was very spacious, very clean, and the host's communication was excellent. We biked & hiked in the Glen Arbor area. This place is just a very short, scenic drive to the stores and restaurants in downtown Glen Arbor. We loved it.

Sleeping Bear Happyland!

Very nicely kept property that is super clean and well located for enjoying the Sleeping Bear Dunes area. We are a family of four and we greatly appreciated calling "The Dragonfly" our home away from home. Bonnie, the host, has provided everything that one could possibly need in the kitchen, and the fire ring out back was a nice place to end the days. The house itself is very tastefully decorated and the furniture is super clean and comfortable. My son and I enjoyed reading some of the local history books that are provided in the home. WIFI was strong and consistent. The neighbor Beth was very kind to us in providing information that enhanced our stays in the area as sightseeing info and dining tips were just the tip of the info that she shared with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would recommend this booking to anyone. Thanks Bonnie - we look forward to staying at your home again!

Amazing Host, Amazing Location, Amazing Place

This was our third year in a row staying at the Dragonfly. We always have a great time. Bonnie is so fantastic and attentive. The place is always pristine when we arrive. She includes so many wonderful nuances and special touches that most hosts would never even think of: A fire pit with plenty of furniture to sit around the fire. Drink tables, a barbecue, marshmallow skewers, a fully loaded kitchen with plenty of pots and pans, a toaster, coffee maker, Vitamix blender, enough dishes and bowls to accommodate all visitors (and then some). She has thought of everything, and is constantly seeking ways to make our stay more comfortable. The location couldn't be better... It is peaceful and quiet... yet it is right in the center of everything. Minutes from Sleeping Bear dunes, minutes from downtown Maple City, Empire, Cedar -- and of course, close to many access points to Lake Michigan and Glen Lake. The beds and the furniture are very sturdy and comfortable -- they are the real deal. Not the low-quality foam mattresses you find in many places. Perfect for relaxing or getting a good night's rest -- even for people who have bad backs and need extra support. We have accumulated many happy memories from our previous visits to this wonderful place. We anticipate many returns to the Dragonfly.

Nice house.

Not exactly what I expected, however beds were comfortable (first time in renting a house for a getaway that I needed to provide sheets for bedding(had to buy extras for trip). However all worked out OK. Living room just right for 4 of us. More would have been crowded. House clean. TV issue d/t service. We were able to work around that....so that ended up ok also. We had a good time.

Lovely, private, pretty, cozy home and property!

My family had a lovely stay here at Bonnie's home! She set us up well at her spacious and cozy house with everything we needed to stay comfortably, cook when we felt like it, come back with takeout, relax after moseying around town or climbing the dunes. Her house was very clean, organized and comfortable. We loved the original art she had up on her walls as well! We were just a short drive from Glen Arbor and loved the woodsy drives, were just down the street from a great ice cream shop and also from an amazing playground. Her property felt secluded yet close to town and to various restaurants. We've stayed in town as well and felt we got the best experience staying at Bonnie's home, as we were very close to Glen Lake, Glen Arbor, multiple restaurants and also had the seclusion we aimed to experience from UpNorth.

Peaceful home and property

The home and property were quiet, peaceful, and immaculate. Our host Bonnie made sure we were comfortable and responded quickly. We enjoyed morning fires with our coffee and breakfast. This is the perfect size for a few couples. Bonnie's artwork was enjoyable and added warmth to our stay. Kitchen is well-equipped and has a large island. The living room and bedroom furniture was all comfortable, and there are antique chests and tables throughout the house. This home is in a perfect location--minutes from Glen Lake, Sleeping Bear Nat'l Lakeshore, Empire, Leland, and Cedar. Nature and beauty in every direction. Thank you so much Bonnie!

Lovely home and property

Host Bonnie was a great communicator. Answered all of our questions promptly. Her home and property are lovely. Woods on 2 sides of the house. Outdoor patio table and chairs, propane grill, firepit and plent of wel seasoned split logs. The beds were very comfy and the master bath has a wonderful shower with sliding glass doors. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything and anything you need to make a great meal. Central air was wonderful. Bonnie and her daughter are artists and her home is filled with their paintings. She even left us a nice bag of goodies. Would stay again in a heartbeat. High degree of excellence

My family of five had a great stay at the Dragonfly Cottage. The house and property were very clean and very well maintained. The host was exceptional and messaged us to make sure our stay was going well. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything one would need to prepare meals. The property is spacious and provided great shaded outdoor seating and a nice gas grill. Several trees on property that allowed for hanging hammocks and relaxing in the shade. Great fire pit with plenty of wood provided. Short drive or bike ride to Glen Lake and a small park with easy access to a public dock in order to swim, paddle board, etc. This place worked out great for us and we would definitely stay there again.

About the host

Hosted by Bonnie Gonzales

Host profile image
Growing up on Glen Lake as a child in the 50s set the course of my life. Although I have lived many places, including Germany, I have always returned to the only place I know as "home". My heart is deeply rooted in Leelanau County and I've spent many years exploring its endless wonders. There is so much to love about the area from the beaches to paved bike trails, to kayaking and hiking, the possibilities for outdoor enthusiasts are endless. In addition to staying active I am passionate about art and spend much of my time in front of an easel, both indoors and en plein air, working in pastels. Wonderful friends, good books, the State and Bijou Theaters in Traverse City, Bay Theater in Suttons Bay, and living environmentally consciously round out life in this blue water paradise.

Moving to my summer home on Little Glen Lake allows me to share my winter home with my guests and I sincerely hope you find it to be a comfortable, warm and inviting place to regroup after enjoying fun and adventure filled days in this magnificent water wonderland.

Why they chose this property

Previously a summer resident only, I purchased this property in 2017 as the pull to return permanently to my roots began to dominate my thoughts. My summer place is seasonal (May-Oct) and my longing for the year-round experience led me to this well cared for manufactured home on a large lot. I fell in love with it immediately. The privacy and abundance of pine trees were an instant draw. I purchased the property with the intent of renting it while spending summers on the lake.

What makes this property unique

The open spaces, both front and back, provide a safe play area for children, away from the road. The shade of gigantic pines lend a cool, comfortable place to enjoy the outdoors. Logistically, the property is not far from Lake Michigan's many beaches, access to Glen Lake, Crystal River, the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, and miles of gorgeous hiking trails featuring stunning views. I also have a fabulous neighbor next door, Beth. She is the general manager at Sleder's Family Tavern in Traverse City, Michigan’s oldest, continuously operated restaurant. For a taste of history and one of the best burgers (including vegan), consider a visit to Sleder's on your next trip into the city.
