We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Debbie and Scott were wonderful hosts. House is well equipped and super amazing views abound. Thank you Debbie and Scott for allowing us into your home. Sincerely, Andy and Angie
This is our second time staying at the laughing lighthouse and it was just as relaxing and amazing this time around! Debbie and Scott are the friendliest hosts we have ever had the pleasure of renting from! They are on top of any and all needs that arise during our stay and they are the most down to earth genuinely friendly people!
We love staying at the laughing lighthouse! It's the type of place that replenishes your soul!
A magical place where everyone shared time with each other, allowing everyone space to enjoy the vastness of nature, ocean, and fresh air, the tree-lined meandering entrance leads you into the Laughing Lighthouse where you take a deep breath and exhale ... I highly recommend this for your personal or corporate gatherings and retreats.
This is the place! It has everything you need/want. Indoor games room, pool, hot tub. Beautiful views. Would highly recommend.
The hosts, Debbie and Scott are incredible!
The Laughing Lighthouse is truly a one of a kind property. The outside sits beautifully on the ocean with plenty of space to play, explore and relax. Inside, the kids were thrilled with the pool, pool table and theatre area.
Scott and Debbie are extremely kind hosts and were very attentive to any needs that we had throughout the week.
We are very grateful that we got to spend time here with our children and friends!
Beautiful scenery and a huge success with young kids who loved exploring around the lighthouse. The pantry was very well stocked and more than enough dishes for our group of ten. Scott and Debbie were both friendly and responded immediately when we contacted them. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us.
We made family memories here that we will treasure, so many different things to do on the property and so many island gems nearby also. You'll never find another place quite like this, where else would you have a pool, hot tub, light house with observation deck, movie theatre, vintage pinball machine, ocean deck, nature trail, and that's only a sample. Very well appointed and equipped, owners friendly and accessible but discrete. Can't say enough good about the Laughing Lighthouse.
Outstanding property! Scott and Debbie were delightful and responsive to our needs. Family is so important and it was lovely to see how this home has grown and changed over time. Family love and togetherness are evident in the stories of children growing, loving and laughing in this home. The attention to detail throughout the home and property made this vacation one of our best.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disliked: Location
Wonderful pool!
We enjoyed this quirky "lighthouse" for a week. The clean and warm pool was a delight for all, and the outside fireplace was fun for hotdogs and marshmallows. The local area doesn't have a lot to see, but we loved the Wind Institute on North Cape. And, in any case, we were all happy to stay put and enjoy the pool, the view, etc. Some may be concerned with the steep stairs. Overall, we had a great time.
This really big house is the ideal place for a memorable family holiday. Barbara & Scott are great hosts! The swimming pool was such a blessing during the heat wave! The small secluded coves we walked to reach the long, mostly unoccupied beautiful beach of fine red sand. The fox that came for a visit. Our week there was ideal. (Except, perhaps, for the voracious mosquitoes…). Our only regret: a week was too short a stay.
Breath taking view, private treed setting, beautiful sunrises. Weather was perfect!
House was outstanding, well equipped.. Host very helpful with any queries.
Kitchen great for big family dinner cooking, we never ate anywhere but home.
Young people loved the indoor pool, hockey table, pool table and diverse entertainment.
We raised our kids in WestPrince , Prince Edward Island for 40 years and they all had a nice trip down memory lane doing the things they did as kids.
Exactly what we were looking for to spend quality time between members of our family, which we did indeed. Spa, pool, beach, we enjoyed them all. But the best was our host Debbie aka Road Runner. You would like to have this, no longer said than done, you didn't even have time to mention a second item that she is out to pick it up for you. From now on the term "In a Flash" will be replaced by in a "DebSpin"! OK Scott, I will repent and also add you to; as the song says my list of the best things in life. Your role as greeter was much appreciated as well as your complete and thorough tour of the property. Merci - Thanks to both of you, we had a marvelous eight day family break. Most highly recommend. Best, Henri.
Beautiful cottage with pool and hot tub, and beautiful views
It was clean, spacious and had everything that you would need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was a good size and was fully stocked with all the dishes and pots and pans needed, the only thing you need to bring is the food...it even had some spices, flour, sugar and salt. It has a large coffee grinding machine, which we enjoyed using each morning.
Each room had it's own bathroom. The bedrooms and bathrooms are a good size and are fully stocked as well.
The cottage has a sound system with speakers throughout.
The pool room has a pool table, hockey table, bar and large fridge.
The property was large and private overlooking the ocean.
A walking beach is a 2 minute drive.
It was beautiful, and we all had fun!
Debbie and Scott were beyond accommodating for my family and we have all agreed this was the best place we have all ever stayed. We didn't want to leave this beautiful property and hope to be able to stay again for much longer in the future!
Beautiful home and property, we couldn’t have asked for a better place, or hosts, everything was there that we needed and then some, we will definitely be back!!!!!!
The property is expansive opening up on the cliffs and giving way to a wonderful view of the ocean and local coastline. It draws you out of the cottage in the morning and for a last look in the evening. The amenities of the property, such as the pool and hot tub, and smaller things such as a set of drums and foosball, were a real hit with the kids. So, after a bit of exploring, or a break in town, there are always things to look forward to coming back "home". As many have commented, Debbie and Scott are attentive, friendly hosts, both in helping you get settled and situated, and dealing with anything that may come up. A setting that you will surely enjoy and a beautiful cottage that quickly grows on you. I wouldn't hesitate.
Our clinical team spent two wonderful days at the Lighthouse. The space, both indoors and outdoors, allowed the team to gather to work in a comfortable setting, yet also had many areas available for small group discussions or private alone time. The feedback from the group was unanimous, this is the perfect place to meet, get away from it all and be in touch with the amazing PEI landscape.
The hosts were amazing, flexible, attentive and yet allowed us the space to make the Lighthouse our own for the duration of the retreat. We are already planning next year’s Retreat. The amenities, like the heated pool, hot tub and large fire pit, spacious kitchen, made relaxing very easy in the evenings. We cannot say enough about this property.
We had a great holiday, this property is ideal for those seeking privacy, rest and relaxation. The nature surrounding the property is stunning!
Debbie and Scott were super welcoming, they answered all our questions and made us feel at home.
This place is absolutely beautiful. Views are stunning whether you are in the front room, lighthouse room, sea deck or roaming the huge grounds of the property. We loved the relaxing heated pool where we could put on some music or movie on the huge projection TV, then play some pool or bubble hockey. Seafood up the road was inexpensive and the property contains everything needed to cook pretty much anything, including tools for shucking oysters or eating lobster. There was even a wine fridge ! The owners Debbie and Scott were very welcoming and were available for anything. Debbie brought over a homemade pie for us which was delicious! For some the location may be a little remote, but it was exactly what we needed to wind down from our hectic lives. There are a few spectacular beaches close by which went on for miles and are relatively unoccupied. I only wish we lived closer as it's a 1300mile journey for us to get there !!!!
Words cannot begin to describe the incredible vacation we just had. I have booked several houses on PEI over the past 20 years and this is by far the best! Not only is this a true slice of heaven with its total seclusion, private beach, huge yard, indoor party room and pool, and light house.... Debbie and Scott, our hosts, made us feel closer than family....they made us feel like life long friends!
The drive up the driveway was like entering into our own private heaven. The light house is so warm and inviting, the kitchen begged me to cook, the pool begged me to swim!
each morning the sun came up over the ocean and I took my cup of coffee down to the beach and sat on the rocks and just absorbed the view, the sounds, the smell....I was home! I hunted for sea glass every day and found 3 pieces of the ever elusive blue glass! I swam in the crystal clear refreshing water and rejuvenated my soul.
We stargazed at night and competed to see who could see the most meteors.... it was amazing to say the least!
We ate dinner once or twice in Alberton... I had to have my fill of Poutine! we went food shopping in Tignish, bought fresh lobsters and muscles at the local fish market. We walked along the numerous empty beaches and swam in the surprisingly warm waters. I caught a baby shrimp with my bare hands.. We visited North Cape and walked the cliffs...saw a seal.
Debbie and Scott were amazing hosts! They welcomed us with a bottle of wine and a hand crafted note...gave us a much needed tour of their large home and taught us how to use all of the lights and stereos...the amazing theater system in the pool house... Anything we needed at all, they obliged.
We broke bread together one night and we had so much fun listening to their stories and their jokes! We were lucky enough to share in Debbie's homemade pies... AMAZING! Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer... never in all my years of traveling have I felt more welcome....more at home!
We can't thank you enough Debbie and Scott and we will be back the first chance we get! If you are ever in the Boston area....please come stay with us!
We miss you already! Marilyn and Chris!

About the host
Hosted by Deborah Travers
We are a fun out going couple who enjoys meeting new people. We live in the old family farmhouse on the adjoining property to the lighthouse. We call the house, the "Laughing Lighthouse". During construction on the main tower, a local children's author named Katy Luke Perry wrote a children's book named the Laughing Lighthouse. With the various windows on the front of the lighthouse, when lit up at night, she thought it looked as if it was a laughing face. So, many years later, the name stuck.
Why they chose this property
We started building this lighthouse retreat in 1987. The land is part of the original farmland that was in the Travers family. Our 2 children spent their summers growing up here and every other weekend in the winter months and also all holidays. The Travers family have been in Kildare Capes since the 1800s. We couldn’t imagine living anywhere other then Kildare Capes. Come let us share it with you.
What makes this property unique
If you are in need of some R&R this is the place for you. Kildare Capes is the hidden gem on P.E.I. Very unique and spacious property. Hike our 5 kms of trails. Enjoy the incredible seclusion and breathtaking views of the ocean. Or relax in our heated indoor pool or outside in the hot tub overlooking the beaches and ocean.
