Fully furnished vacation cottage, located on the lower Wisconsin Riverway. UNWIND by taking a short walk down our path to our private Wisconsin River shoreline. RELAX, have a seat and feel the calm of the river flowing while you enjoy a fire in the pit and take in the sunset. Pause by the pond fed by an artesian spring trickling over the rock ledges. Think deeply as you walk the labyrinth. Identify the species of birds in the sanctuary or catch a glimpse of eagles, white pelicans, geese, turtles, deer and much more. ENJOY the creation around you.
Originally, this cottage was an Army officer's barracks at Truax Field, Madison, WI during WWII. It was moved to this Wisconsin River location in the 1970s. A family lived here until it was renovated in 2006 as a vacation rental.

very nice stay
We had a wonderful time at the Redstone Cottage. The cottage was VERY clean and comfortable. The property is pretty and peaceful. The location was great---close to Devil's Lake (awesome hiking) and restaurants and you still felt like you were getting away from it all.
Thank you!

New Year's Stay
We had a great time here. The location is great. We explored Sauk City and Prairie du Sac, drove around on back roads and saw an eagle very close up, and a huge flock of turkeys. Saw 4 deer in the yard and actually saw someone canoeing on the river. The fireplace was amazing - we enjoyed a lot of fires. On New Year's Day we, of course, wanted to watch the Packers - the TV was extremely small and had no remote - not the best experience. If it hadn't been for the game we probably wouldn't have minded the TV.

A True Retreat!
I made this reservation from 5000 miles away and thankfully have no regrets! The Redstone Cottage along the Wisconsin River is a great place for peace and relaxation with family. Small but not too small, all elements are provided including books, maps, movies and games. The fish and frog pond provided great amusement to our small children and the riverside firepits were terrific at night while gazing at the clear starry sky.
The house sits close to a county road but not too busy and with windows closed you barely know it's there. The 2min walk through the woods to the river through pathways and across bridges prepares you for the vantage along the river's banks.
Well maintained grounds and house! Neighboring cottage is far enough away to not impinge on your own privacy and each have their own firepit. Comfortable beds and soft bathroom linens. It was hot & humid during our stay so the air conditioning was very welcome. Bring plenty bug spray and flashlights.
Location was also great! 5 minutes from Sauk City and canoe/kayak river rentals. Maybe 30min to Baraboo and 15min from there to the Dells and 30min to West Madison makes for easy daytrips without having to stay in cities.
I had excellent owner communication throughout the reservation period and stay. Listing, description and amenities all accurate to a T! I'd definitely recommend staying at Redstone! Mahalo!

Comfortable cabin with great views of the Wisconsin River
We had a great visit in this beautiful retreat. The cabin had an open-concept, was very comfortable, and had a fully-stocked kitchen that made it easy to prepare meals. We gathered around the dining room table throughout the day to eat, talk, play games, and enjoy the space. When we went outside we appreciated the peaceful setting, the serene grounds, as well as calm overlooks and access to the river. We had easy access (5-10 minutes away!) to Sauk City and Prairie du Sac to shop for groceries, get dessert at Culvers, and simply go for a drive. Most importantly, the owners were responsive to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay. Wisconsin River Retreat was a wonderful getaway!

A perfect Wisconsin River retreat!
Truly a great time! My husband and I stayed here a Sunday to Friday and had a great time. The place was very tidy and cozy… nothing fancy, but perfect for the location because you’ll want to spend a lot of time outside. All kitchen items you could possibly need are provided, charcoal was even provided! Lots of wood available, which was great because we were out watching the beautiful sunsets from the river with a nice fire going almost every night. The house is right off of the road, but it didn’t bother us as it’s not very busy and doesn’t create much noise. A great location, we’ll definitely be back!
We used Black Hawk River Runs for kayak rentals. They dropped two kayaks off for us to use for the week and then picked us up down river on Thursday. It was so nice and easy to just lower the kayaks down into the river and then paddle up and down river, around the islands, and then to a sandbar to take in some sun and to splash around in the water.
The cottage is in a perfect area for doing little day trips to the cute towns close by and Madison. We went to Middleton and had the best cupcakes at Bloom Bake Shop, enjoyed the Mustard Museum, and had fantastic pizza from Villa Dolce (and that’s coming from Chicago folks who have spent a lot of time in Italy!). New Glarus is always a great trip too where we enjoyed the brewery (obviously), the best fondue in the world from the Glarner Stube, tasty treats from Maple Leaf Cheese and Chocolate Haus, and just taking in the little shops! If you feel like making a trip for some amazing meat to grill one night, head into Madison and hit up the Conscious Carnivore.
The two things I would mention are: 1. Bring LOTS of bug spray and Citronella candles. The bugs are not as bad up by the house, or once you’re down by the river with a fire going, but they are horrible in the wooded are in between. 2. The kitty visitors you will probably have do have a home. One looked so old and weak that my husband and I were about to just adopt/rescue/take her, but the neighbors ended up letting us know that she is their 18 y/o cat named Bubbles. The two kitties were super friendly, so it was kind of nice to have a little furry company when out on the patio or down by the fire.

Charm and calm
The cabin is lovely - nothing fancy, but clean, comfortable and cozy. We loved the property and would have been happy to spend our entire vacation on the river bank or next to the fish pond. Watching the sunset over the river was the perfect way to the end the day.
Pack lots of mosquito spray - the bugs scoffed at our essential oils so be sure and bring spray that will keep them away.

Beautiful location
Stayed July 2nd & 3td. The cabin is close to Devils lake state park plus the property is on the WI River. The grounds were very pretty too. Location location location! It worked out very well for us. We would stay here again. The cabin is old but very clean.

Cute cabin, lovely outside space
The inside of the cabin was more than adequate but what really set it apart was the outside space. There is a cute little fish pond and a couple of fire pits right on the river. Plenty of fire wood for the pits and the fireplace inside. We used the charcoal grill with provided charcoal and lighters. We were there on a couple's weekend and liked it so much I booked it again for a trip with my mother and kids before we left. We took a day and rented kayaks to go down the river 12 miles. Totally worth it- we saw a ton of turtles, cranes, bald eagles and more. Don't forget sunblock and bug repellent!
