The "Rotten House" has the most fantastic, unpretentious and authentic antique Cape Cod house feel, with an absolutely wonderful wrap-around porch area where everyone wanted to spend the whole long weekend. The kitchen, which is well equipped, has views that are unparalleled for the cook :D The house still has the classic vernacular architecture of the period it was built, and feels like a home, rather than a sterile rental. It would be absolutely perfect for a family with children, too. We were 8 adults and fit fine, although sharing one bathroom upstairs was very intimate. The house has all the creaks and self-opening doors one expects in an antique building, and a few scuffs and dings, but its charm and absolutely stunning location makes up for any thread-bareness. It was also pleasantly clean, other than a few stains here and there from prior use. We couldn't figure out how to work the TV or stereo systems, so we just listened to the music of the surf instead. As a heads up to the maintenance: The built-in icemaker in the wet bar wasn't functioning, but there was another in the fridge that was, so it wasn't a real issue. Also, as some of the bedroom doors tend to open up on their own, it might be good to put a hook-and eye on the inside to allow keeping them closed when privacy is wanted.
Our host, Tom, was excellent with communication before the visit and even left a welcome gift of a bottle of the 'house wine' for us upon arrival. We definitely plan to return!
