Beautiful Location

We really enjoyed our stay in the historic schoolhouse. The property was very clean and had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. The surrounding area was so pretty, and we’d love to come back to visit some of the nearby wineries. It was about a 35 minute drive to Charlottesville where we were visiting our son for UVA family weekend. Next time, we’ll make sure we have more time to spend in the property and nearby.

Quiet retreat with mountain views.

Very clean and comfortable. The amenities were very nice. The only issue was the shower head in the Master bedroom, stand up shower...it shot a hard steady stream out of the center nozzle hole. couldn't use it. :( I would highly recommend to my friends. :) Mr. K. Johnson, Suffolk, Va.

Well appointed, clean, and beautiful setting

This was the perfect place to stay- picturesque, clean, homey, and unique. The house had all the necessities (fully stocked kitchen), and had so many sweet little touches that the Owner thought to Include. The Owner was responsive and accommodating. Highly recommend staying here. It’s about 45m outside of Charlottesville, but has plenty of wineries and distilleries in the vicinity.

Unique and lovely!

This old brick schoolhouse was renovated into unique and lovely living spaces and we enjoyed the opportunity to spend 3 nights in one of them. Tall ceilings, big windows, and beautifully refinished old floors recall the origins of the building, while the well equipped kitchen, the large master suite, and the comfortable sitting and dining area add lots of modern convenience. We are looking forward to staying here again the next time we visit family in this part of Virginia.

We are a young couple currently living in Jerusalem, Israel and helping and poverty and refugee situations in the surrounding areas. We are blessed to be the current stewards of the Historic Dyke Schoolhouse and it is our pleasure to make it available for your enjoyment while we are overseas.

Why they chose this property

The building was erected in the 1920's to serve as school building for the children in the mountain region of Greene County. I was born and raised within a few miles of Dyke, VA and many of the middle aged folks that I knew in the area had gone to school here. The building was privatized in the mid 1980's and used as an archery shop before being converted to two residential units in the early 2000's. The buildings owner lost the property to the bank following the economic downturn of 2009. We were then fortunate enough to acquire the property and renovate and update the property specifically for vacation enjoyment. While the building is fully converted for residential, the original huge windows still line the outside walls allowing in ample light. Originally the enter upstairs was comprised of four large classrooms while the wide hallway down the middle is now used for bathrooms and a kitchen. The maple flooring is original and a line can be seen where boards were filled in to cover the place of the original dividing wall between classrooms.

What makes this property unique

The 13 ft ceilings were originally designed to allow for cooler temperatures and more airflow in the summer in a period before air conditioners. Today this lends the place a grandiose air. The large deck affords sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains not far to the west.
