About this property

A charming home on a beautiful peninsula on a crystal clear lake.

Our Grandparents purchased this beautiful summer cottage, in 1938. In 1989, our father, an Architect, renovated it, added a gourmet kitchen, and a master suite, with a bunk room, below. It was their primary home for 20 years.
The house sits high on a peninsula that runs perfectly north and south. The sun rises over the a beautiful vista of the lake on one side, and sets over the dock and swim beach on the other. The property spans the peninsula, and is filled with mature Norway and White Pines, and stately Maples.
The house has a gradual walk way including 16 steps from the parking area up to the front door.
The house is a combination of an old cottage with beautiful varnished pine and a big open fire place, and a modern architecturally designed home. Full of family heirlooms, Persian rugs and fine furnishings, this is a gorgeous cottage in an incredible setting.
The property is located on Ely Lake, three miles south of Eveleth. A crystal clear lake, with a sugar sand beach, perfect for swimming, paddle boarding, or just enjoying the view from the dock bench.
The master suite features a king bed, a bath with walk in shower and jet tub, skylight, and a dressing room.
The second bedroom has a queen bed, and is part of the old cottage, lined with tongue and groove original pine paneling, it is spacious and bright.
A bath with a walk in shower, is adjacent.
The bunk room is located below the master suite and has a queen bed, partitioned off from the two single beds.
The Kitchen is a cook's dream. The large 4 burner gas stove with cook top fan, is located on the center Island. A in-wall electric convection oven, side by side refrigerator/freezer, and Bosch dishwasher, large double stainless sink round out the cooking area. A full compliment of pots and pans, appliances, knives, utensils, flatware and dishes are all what you would expect in a home of this caliber.
The adjacent dining area is surrounded by glass overlooking the lake, and the Islands to the east. The sunrises are amazing!
The living room is centered around a large open fire place. A marble coffee table and designer couch and chairs, make it a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy. Firewood is provided.
The west room is a cozy den with two comfy chairs and lots of windows. The perfect spot to watch the sun set through the pines, over the lake.
Adjacent to the front entry is a Library area with skylight.
The house is 25 minutes from Giant's Ridge, a year around resort offering alpine and nordic skiing and two golf courses.
The Eveleth Golf course is located minutes from the house.
The 115 mile Mesabi Bike Trail, rated one of the best in Minnesota, is accessible by bike, from the house, or a short drive to a parking area.
The Eveleth-Virginia Municipal Airport (KEVM) is minutes away and Sky Harbor, Seaplane Base is located on Ely Lake.
Eveleth is also home the to United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
The larger community, Virginia, 5 miles from the house, offers a wider variety of retail offerings. A SuperOne Grocery store, Target, Menard's to name a few.

Magical late summer celebration

This property is the cabin-life experience that we Minnesotans dream about. Situated on a point, it is surrounded by water, near the middle of Lake Ely. The property itself is comfortable and somehow familiar, with native MN plants blooming alongside the cabin and walkways. No air conditioning was needed, but was available. The kitchen was well-appointed, and clean sheets and towels were a welcomed sight. The bunkhouse sleeps up to 6 people, and has a classic toddler child’s playroom equipped with a dollhouse, tea set, rocking horse, and hundreds of childrens books.it would be a wonderful nursery play area for kids under 4. Our 5 & 7 yr old grandkids loved exploring the rest of the house, and spending time on the front porch with their iPads connected to Wi-Fi. We adults took advantage of the backyard fireplace, to make s’mores and tell stories. We swam, pontooned, kayaked, feasted, and enjoyed attending my sons wedding nearby. This is a must-see rental for those seeking to unwind and relax among tall trees, clear water, green grass and the call of loons. It is living the dream of visiting the Cabin—with many extra little luxuries to enjoy. We all want to come back again next year!

Wonderful location

I have stayed in many VRBO. This was my favorite. The property is beautiful. My friends were attending their 50th high school reunion and it also made a great location to stay for them to attend their events in Eveleth.

Best feature is its fireplace. Master bath and bath are swanky. Pillows in master Bedroom suite were huge-hard-lumpy. Well furnished kitchen. We will return

Great retreat!

Enjoyed our stay in March of 2022! Bill was easy to work with and very accommodating! House had everything we needed and more. Very comfortable place to relax. Loved the cozy fireplace at night and beautiful sunrise over the lake in the morning. All communications and check-in/out was smooth and easy. Would definitely stay again!

A perfect getaway!

We had an absolutely perfect (except for me breaking my leg skiing 😵‍💫)....this is the perfect place to unwind. A highlight was the endless supply of wood for the fireplace. The house has everything you need and the neighbors who act as caretakers were so kind. Bill even called the first night to make sure everything was OK for us! We would welcome the opportunity to experience this beautiful place in the summer.

Great location, beautiful home

The home was great for our family (all adults now), clean and equipped with everything we needed for preparing our own meals; the setting is very picturesque with wonderful sunrises and sunsets; the indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit were both used during our stay; and the owner/caretakers were all very responsive to questions. We hope to visit again and perhaps take advantage of the Mesabi Trail with our bikes or explore a little more of the Iron Range.

Family get-away

This was our second time staying at this house. We felt right at home! Very relaxing. Watching the sunsets on lake are beautiful! The lake is shallow and great for swimming and paddle boarding. Friendly neighbors and a great location. We will be back next year!

What a great spot

This is one of the better VRBO properties we have stayed at. The house and lake were both great and neighbors were friendly. The house is on a peninsula with views of the lake from both sides, but access is only on the West side. The lake is about a foot deep with a sandy bottom next to the dock. I didn't get any fish from the dock, but walked into the lake until the water was waist high and had success with sunnies and bass. Overall everything was great and we really enjoyed our stay.

Perfect up north retreat!

The cottage was an amazing place to spend a few days with family. It was very clean and well stocked. Since it sits on a point, there are beautiful views everywhere. Hiking trails, tennis and pickle ball courts, floating in the clear lake, guided fishing trips on Lake Vermillion and bass fishing off the dock are just a few of the many things to do. Bill was great to work with on anything we needed. We would definitely return!

Beautiful cottage! Beautiful lake!

We had a great time at the cottage on the point. The home was well equipped with everything we could ever want. Absolutely loved the morning views of the lake from the dining room table and master bedroom! The lake has a beautiful sandy bottom, but no beach so you have to step in off the dock. But that’s not an issue at all since the lake there is shallow and clear. It was a great place to stay while we vacationed and visited with family in the area.

Peaceful Place

Beautiful views, calming and serene. Great place to unplug and get away! The caretakers, Barb and Dean, were awesome and we very much enjoyed their dogs, Rufus and Lambeau! We stayed for 3 nights, cooked 2 nights and went out one. As a person that Loves to cook, let me tell you this kitchen was very well stocked with everything you would need! The sandy beach (although too cold for us at this time of year) was super nice and our dog loved it!!!!

Mystery Trip Fun

What s terrific place to enjoy our time together. The sunsets were gorgeous, the kitchen was sowell stocked with all the right cooking tools and the beds were comfortable. If we could have made one change, it would have been a bathroom in the basement. Otherwise it was all we needed. Thank you for a beautiful stay...lots to see and do in the Iron Range area!

Lake vacation

Can't say enough about this place! All we had to do was unpack our things and relax. The house is spacious and able to accommodate several people without feeling cramped. Bill was very helpful during our stay making sure things were going smoothly, as well as Barb the caretaker. The beach is great for small children, and the neighbors are friendly--we didn't feel like 'renters' at all. We would definitely return!

Spacious home/cabin w/ gorgeous view

This home interior is in great shape and is very spacious. The view from the living area was awe inspiring and the fire place very enjoyable. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils and gear. It was a perfect getaway to relax, enjoy the view, and play some games with the kids. Swimming spot looked great but was too cool to take advantage of it. Not the best fishing hole without a boat or canoe. We'd highly recommend it unless you're planning to do fishing from the small pier in the photos. Bill was extremely helpful. We drove to the Soudan mine for an afternoon outing which was amazing.
