About this property

Pets Welcome. Private. Right on the Lake.

Guests tell me the photos don't do the cottage and property justice. Read our reviews. Very private. Clean. Lots of space. Drive down to the beach. The East side of Seneca Lake has lots of sun and beautiful sunsets. 100 foot dock. New windows, doors and mini-split ac/heat. Ten miles from Geneva for shopping, movies, and food. Two Five Star restaurants within 15 miles. Each year we renovate another part of our little cottage and many of our guests and their pets return every year. One bedroom with two double beds and a large living room with one pull out couch can sleep 4. Cottage is 880 square feet so best for 2-4 people. Minimum stay is 3 nights except July and August when we only rent by the week (Saturday 3 pm to Saturday 10 am). Cozy but may be too small for anyone 6 foot 2 or over. New kitchen appliances, cupboards, air conditioning, and microwave. We added a pellet stove for visits in the early spring or late fall for wine tours, an aluminum boat for fishing, a canoe and 2 kayaks for sunsets on the lake. For further information, call or e-mail me. It is a lovely place to relax.

Enjoy the quiet - pets welcome. Guests and their pets return every year. One of the few places with no stairs to the lake. Everyone enjoys swimming in the lake, laying on the dock, visiting the wineries (we have three within 7 miles and a brewery) and local restaurants. Others have ventured to Ithaca, Rochester, and Canandaigua to visit museums, gourmet restaurants, and historic sites. The bedroom is above the lake so when you wake up in the morning, you can see right onto the lake. The kitchen and dining area are on the bottom floor and look right onto the water. There are many places to walk including a two mile hike up to Sampson State Park.

If you need to get away from the stress of your life, this is the place.

Enjoy the Lake: This is NOT for you IF you want a high energy vacation. See the herons land on the dock each evening and the ducklings come by each morning. The waves will rock you to sleep. Swim and kayak during the day. Take out the rowboat to fish. Have beach fires at night and visit our many wonderful wineries, breweries, and restaurants nearby. WIFI but no cable TV (just DVD movies). We suggest you relax and get away. This is truly the country and as our friend Simon says, "They aren't building any more lakes."

Perfect
Spotless inside, delightful outside. You'll need to rent a houseboat to stay closer to the water. Cindy is an ideal host and will help you in any way to need. The cottage is exactly as advertised and our stay could not have been better.

Perfect location!
We had a wonderful time at the cottage. Weather was absolutely perfect! Loved sitting on the dock just enjoying the view, and the dogs loved it too! My husband took the rowboat out a few times and had fun with that. Would definitely stay here again!

A piece of heaven on Earth for you and your pets
Cindy is a wonderful host, and the home is organized perfectly for visitors. EVERYTHING you might need is available and easy to find. She has even included towels for the dogs after swimming (there are linens and towels for humans too!) Couches are freshly covered for people and dogs to relax on together. Yet the whole place is immaculate...you would never know other dogs and people were there before you. The cottage is welcoming and relaxing with lake views from every window. The water's only a few feet away and you can hear the waves lapping at the shore. The downstairs bathroom is clean and attractive. Upstairs, the bedroom has big windows over the water and its own rear outside door lets in the fresh lake air. Outside is laid out perfectly for your enjoyment. There is a porch by the entrance with an umbrella table and chairs. Scattered alongside the wide shore line are Adirondack chairs, a campfire all laid out (with extra wood nearby), and another deck area with table and chairs under the trees. It always has a lake breeze and shade (they call it the cafe). Within minutes of arrival we were settled in there and the dogs were in the lake swimming! The cottage location on Seneca Lake is surrounded by small towns which are fun to explore, and the City of Geneva is 15 minutes away if you're looking for more. We also enjoyed the town of Waterloo and their fun Drive-in food restaurant and diner. Come visit...just don't take my week...we'll be back! Thanks, Cindy!

Lake Fun!
Perfect location! Stunning views from this charming cottage on the lake. And I mean ON the lake! Water is mere steps away, our pups loved swimming and the privacy to roam free. A shaded area for hot days, and a beautiful dock to enjoy the sunset. Floatation, kayaks, canoe all readily available. Cottage is absolutely spotless and very well taken care of. Host is nearby if needed, very kind and welcoming. Had a great stay, will definitely be back!

Incredible dog-friendly getaway
What a wonderful place to stay! The owner is right nearby, and very gracious, communicative and helpful. She provides a full tutorial on all the home's systems, as well as its history. The home is immaculately clean, and well-appointed. Great air conditioning (if needed), but the windows provide incredible lake breezes. The views are lovely, the sunsets are incredible. The place is VERY dog friendly -- so much so that the owner publishes a little book of canine visitors for each year. The home is RIGHT on the water, and the lake is pretty quiet -- not a ton of boat traffic. There's a huge state park nearby with some good hiking and biking. HIGHLY recommended.

Anniversary Getaway
My husband and I had a wonderful long weekend celebrating our anniversary together at Cindy’s cottage. The size and layout were perfect, and the view is outstanding! We appreciated that it was very clean; you can really tell Cindy cares about the space. It felt like being in paradise, even when we encountered a somewhat chilly and wet weekend. We would love to stay again in the future and would recommend it to any couple(s) looking for a beautiful Seneca Lake getaway.

This is our third time staying at Cindy's place. Everything is always clean and comfortable. The proximity to the lake is amazing. With the cooler weather we were able to enjoy the firepit which is steps from the cottage. We love having access to the kayaks and canoe. The dock and lake views are the best!

Peace, tranquil, Sunsets!
Simply lovely. Everything you need except for food and drink. Location is perfect. Close to Geneva; go the opposite way to Watkins Glen. Continue around the lake and visit all the wineries and breweries. Beautiful views. Fine restaurants. Literally on the water. We did not take our dog this time, but will the next. Safe from the road, secluded. Thank you, Cindy. Your cottage is splendid.

Big surprise in a little package
Cynthia our host, was extremely friendly and informative about the property, the lake, nearby towns and events. She created a binder that contains everything and anything about the finger lakes area, food, entertainment, parks, waterfalls, etc... She appeared to be as excited about our stay in her property as we were to be there. The lot has a 100' dock for fishing, swimming and relaxing. Amazing sunsets every night! Kayaks, canoe and aluminum row boat at our disposal, with life jacket, anchors, paddles and oars. There are 2 decks, one attached to the cottage with table and chairs, perfect for lunch at the lake. Spend some time at "the cafe". An additional deck located not far from the cottage, in a shaded area, made me feel like I was relaxing in a rain forest. The cottage itself is small on the outside, but a "mansion" on the inside. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in, one word.. immaculate! It is so cute and everything was provided for us, linens, dishes, paper products, etc... The cottage and our host exceeded our expectations! Would definitely stay here again. A+ to this little slice of heaven on the Lake

Another great year on the lake!
We are repeat guests, and can not say enough about Cindy and her gorgeous lake home. Location is perfect, she’s got everything you need and it’s pet friendly! The Canadian wildfires and some wicked storms put a dent in our trip, however we will be back next year. You cannot find a better VRBO or host in the Finger Lakes!

This was our second time here! Everything was perfect, the place really has all you will need and Cindy is very responsive. The location to wineries, Watkins Glenn, and Geneva is great. It is also truly a pet friendly place— our cat loves looking out the windows and watching the water! Can’t wait to return next year!

Heaven on Earth
Cindy’s cottage is the place that we go to recharge. The absolutely beautiful view of the lake, coupled with the sounds of the water lapping at the shore, bring peace and contentment to the adults and provides a canine playground for our dog. We all love it there. It’s a toss up who loves it more - the dog or the humans. :)

Year After Year
This was my 2nd year staying here and I hope to stay again next year. Cindy thinks of everything to accommodate her guests and give them a warm welcome back. I loved seeing my pup in the book and can't wait until next year to see the pictures of the pups from this year's vacation as well. This is the place to go if you want to get some relaxation in. Watching the sunset over the lake is absolutely beautiful and unwinding by the fire for the night makes it even better!

perfect weekend!
This was one of my favorite weekend getaways. The cottage is literally on the water. It was very clean and very cozy. Cindy was a great host. She met us at the cottage, showed us around and even gave a little history on the cottage. She had everything ready for our arrival - wood for the fire pit, the grill was cleaned, recommendations for takeout, etc...Most of our time was spent outside on the dock or at the fire pit. The views are like none other. I would definitely recommend and hope to go back some day.

Too fast
I hate doing this review because I don’t want other people to know about the house but to do justice to it it is extremely well situated. right on the lake and the weather this time was nice Huckleberry our dog just loves it so much he gets there, and he immediately runs out onto the dock he remembers it great location close to all the wineries and activities that we like to do in the Finger Lakes so much fun looking at the dog books that Cindy puts together. just can’t say enough about property. Thanks for allowing us to stay there with our dog not a lot of places do this, so everybody who stays there seems to understand this place is special and is respectful

Perfect spot for couples & their dogs
We had the best time here! Cindy is the perfect host and full of any information you may need about the area. We enjoyed being steps from the water, sitting out at the end of the private dock listening to music, reading & watching the gorgeous sunsets. We also had a fire one night with the lake as our backdrop. Our Bernese Mountain dog loved being able to walk right into the lake & running up and down the dock. The house is a quick drive to Geneva where you can find plenty of good restaurants. We recommend the Rusty Pig for some great BBQ. It is also close to wineries/breweries. We spent some time at 3 Brothers Winery touring, sitting outside & listening to live music. Mostly we enjoyed the privacy & peacefulness this home provides. If you are looking for a relaxing place to spend with your dog than this is your place. We will definitely be back!

About the host

Hosted by Cindy Lont

Host profile image
My family purchased the property in the 1960s and over the years we added rooms and renovated what was a little boathouse into a full functioning cottage right on the lake. No one is allowed to build this close to the lake anymore but we were grandfathered since the building was here before that ruling. Each year I add something new. In 2015, it was a 100 foot permanent dock, new doors and new windows. In 2018, I added mini-split air conditioning and a bay window in the bedroom. In 2019, we reinforced the beach front and put on a new roof. In 2015, I retired from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia where I had been a professor since 1984. Some people retire to the south. I retired back home to the north. I have two adult children who help me with the cottage. I have been renovating and renting this cottage for 14 years. It has been great meeting nice people (and their pets) and having them return year after year. Each year I make a photo book which highlights the dogs who have stayed that past season.

Why they chose this property

The difference between this cottage and the others on the lake is the location. It is very private with over 250 feet of lake shore just for you. There are no stairs going down to the lake like other cottages. You walk out the door, two steps off the deck and you are 6 feet from the water. You park your car down on the beach. It is private, quiet, and you can relax. No landline phones, no cable. Lots of DVDs, CDs, books, swimming, sun, and boating. Want to leave work behind? This is the place.

What makes this property unique

My parents always had a house on Seneca lake for summers. After 45 years, I finally live on the lake year round. The cottage property is so beautiful. I love the fires at night, the sunsets and swimming off the dock. Every night is a different sunset.
