Big Cottage Stay

Overall, the property did not appear as the VRBO photos because the listing lists 2 properties and all photos but 3 are of the other property. If you want a cabin experience, then this is what you are looking for. The fire pit area is sloped so it was uncomfortable to sit around. There are outlets that don't work and the dining room light, ceiling fan and living room fan/light are on 1 switch so unable to turn off the light in the dining room and still have the fans on. The use of allergy free detergent should be used because my daughter has allergies as she broke out considerably from the detergent on the sheets/towels. There are many cracks/gaps in floor in which you can get hurt. Kitchen was stocked well with the exception of regular bowls for cereal (only 5) and there were 6 of us. Stability of the decks was scary and there was no handrail on the set of 3 steps. There isn't a great "yard" to use as the 2 properties have to share the flat space (no real division of space for each property). Whomever is renting the pontoon should dock at their properties dock as to not disturb the other property. The use of the raft seemed to be for only the one property as it was tied to that dock. There was no instruction of the use of the kayak/rowboat as we were not certain that we could use it. There was no instruction list for rental checklist of what needed to be completed upon arrival/departure. Living room step in too large. Tub handle should be updated. Cleaning fee is high.

Great lake play area

If you are planning a family reunion or large holiday gathering this is the place for you. Larger cabin has a huge dining table and room for several kids’ tables. Point lot offers great views and lots of shoreline to share between two houses. Larger rustic cabin has 2 walls of sliding doors to take in the view. Cabins are located where a small channel enters the larger lake and the boats go right past the docks - lots of fun to watch. If you have older guests joining you, plan for them to stay in the smaller renovated cottage (the photos online are of this cottage) - it has a level lot where the larger cabin has a uneven small slope to the water and some entry/exit stairs. Smaller cabin has no stairs and level walk out of cabin and to the outside gathering spots and dock. Bigger cabin: We were first renters of the season. Interior was clean and spacious. Outside decks and seating areas were still being spiffed up for visitors after a long winter.

Great Vacation!

The property has a great waterfront. We were fortunate the weather cooperated all week which allowed us to take advantage. There is a nice swim platform, pier had room for our boat, and fishing off of pier was reasonably successful. The house was clean and functional. My family had a great time. I will rent again.

Comfortable stay with beautiful views

Loved the view and overall decor of home. Great proximity to water. Adequate outdoor seating areas. Adequate kitchen supplies and comfortable beds. Concerns: Sliding door did not lock Well water was very hard and strong iron taste Whether we agree or disagree political signage was not appreciated ( 2016 presidential candidate sign posted on property)

Family Vacation

This is our 3rd time renting these cottages. There have been several updates done since the first time: new sheets, blankets, pot & pans, silverware (enough for everyone), new docks and new appliances in the lower cottage. Had a wonderful week, rented both cottages for our extended families. Swimming was great, the lake was warm. Did several kayak and canoes trips thru the different lakes. The older kids especially enjoyed the fishing, caught enough that we had fish for dinner one night. Had a campfire several nites even though the weather was quite warm. Had one rainy day but there was easily enough room at the main house table for several rounds of cards which kids and adults enjoyed. Fred and Sue were very accommodating and the rental process was easy.

K & E

My wife & I rented the cabin over our wedding weekend. It was the perfect place for our bridal party to stay! Since it's on the end of the road it's nice and secluded. The lake was alive with water sports on Sunday, we all swam, barbecued, & waved at boats as they passed through the channel. We actually liked that the cabin (smaller of the 2 available) wasn't fancy....because we felt like it was easier to have fun there without having to worry about getting mud on white carpets or breaking some kind of decorations etc. The owner was really nice & easy to work with. We would definitely recommend this place to people...if what you're looking for is a chill cabin with a great view / access to the lake...nice patio & yard too! Thanks for making our wedding weekend that much better :)

Family Fun. Great Location!!

My husband and I rented the big cottage this week as an end of summer get-away for us all (3 kids - 10/8/4). We had an absolutely wonderful time, and glad we found this place to get away for a while and just enjoy being together as a family. The cottage is very private and the large lot made for plenty of fun. Kids enjoyed swimming in the lake. We also were able to get in some fishing, and had a bonfire nightly. We highly recommend staying here. Thanks so much to Sue for going the extra mile to make our stay such a memorable experience. We couldn't ask for better people to deal with. Thanks for everything!!!

Great place to stay!!

Absolutely wonderful place to get away for a while and just enjoy being together as a family. Fishing, swimming, boating, fires, s'mores - who could ask for anything more. Perfect place to get away from the day-to-day and relax without having to drive for hours. Leaves more time for fun. Cute cottages and great people to deal with. No one could ask for a better experience. We highly recommend staying here. Thanks so much for going the extra mile to make such a memorable experience. Loved our stay

We spent 3 weeks at this cottage this summer. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The setting was peaceful and private although it was also fun to be able to watch the boat traffic coming through the channel. We especially appreciated the cleanliness of the cottage. It was nice to know that someone was coming in each sunday with fresh linens and to do the floors, bathroom and kitchen. The owner was very responsive when notifified of a need for repair of sump pump cover and made quick arrangements to address a tree that came down during a storm. No cable TV or internet service but for us that was a plus. We knew about it ahead of time and it made "getting away from it all" much easier. Neighbors are very friendly and close access to nice little diner and grocery store. Planning on returning next summer.

Small Cottage

Growing up on Pine Lake - I couldn't wait to bring my family up and create memories like i have from my childhood. We rented the smaller of the two cottages. The communication and process from the owners is very easy. The lot is well worth the money. The yard is very accommodating for large groups with a nice fire pit (we did have to get our own wood). The location is perfect as it's at the end of the point on a private drive. It's located in the channel so you don't have any large waves from passing boats. Perfect sandy beach and raft for little ones to swim and play. The cons - the cottage was fairly dirty. We cleaned throughout before we set up for the week. I'd recommend bringing your own linens as the ones supplied are very old. There is a vacuum but it doesn't work. The screen door is broken and the back doors are very difficult to open and close. The small cottage does not have a gas grill that works. The owners could really benefit from a quick overall deep clean and face lift (inside and out). I'm giving this 4 stars and not 5 because tenants should not have to clean upon arrival and/or purchase their own silver wear. Other than that, we had a great week and I'll be coming back with my family to stay in the large cottage next year.

relaxing

We rented the larger of the two cottages 8/26/2015-9/3/2015(girlfriend prefers smaller cottage ) . We did end up switching 6to smaller cottage due to our dog having problems with steps (her age) . Contacted owners they were very understanding and offered to refund the price difference. Beautiful view of Lake ,peaceful setting, fire pit for smors . We also rented the pontoon boat very nice running ,a lot of seating for cruising lakes. We have rented one or the other cottages from the owners for the past eight years and will continue renting due to the treatment we have received and the relaxing atmosphere

Do not book this rental

The house is very outdated and the Deck and the Dock are very unsafe and dangerous for children. The dock actually fell during our stay and someone could of been injured. We lost our deposit on the pontoon rental because of "damage" that we never did. The lake is nice and the fishing is pretty good. I would recommend coming to pine lake just not staying here.

Beautiful views but Ammenities not as Listed

Nice cottages with amazing views and great space for larger gatherings. Nice area for bin fire and lots if windows to enjoy the boats going through. Even though it's listed in this ad, there was no washer/dryer, air conditioning, cable tv, or internet. The weather was fantastic during our stay but if it would've been hot outside the cottages would've been very warm with no a/c. Dock semi to need work and also the large deck on big cottage.

Boniface Point is beautiful and a great place for a Family Retreat.

We had a family retreat at the smaller cottage. There was Plenty of room for the family to come and go. We had up to a dozen people there sometimes. The point is beautiful and the cottage is larger than I expected and comfortable. Great water views. We had a bonfire every night and the Pine Lake Grocery is close by and set us up with all the wood, ice and Pizza we could use. We were there for the 4th of July and we had a good view of the fireworks. There were firework shows all weekend and the lake community gave us a good show. the children loved it!

Family Gathering { Indiana Clan }

The whole family had a great time. We were looking for a place that had 2 cottages and we found one here. It was a perfect fit for what the family needed. It was very clean and comfortable. The lake was a great fit for all of the kids as well as the adults. We spent our time catching up and swimming, boating and fishing well into the night. At the end of the day we would spend our nights sitting around the campfire joking around or watching boats come thru the channel and into our part of the lake. We are heading back again this year and can't wait.

Family Memories

We will always remember summers at this cottage! Its in a peaceful location. Every year we can't wait to bring the family back for relaxing, cooking out, great fishing right off the property or dock. We rented the pontoon boat, which we used it everyday. The lake is amazing and clean, Campfire and smores every night are so much fun. Cottages are very clean, comfortable and we have always had everything we needed. The location is beautiful all day long. Waking up to that lake view with your coffee is priceless. We will be returning next year again for our 3rd vacation at the Cottages.

Large cottage

Our experience was just average. We had to call to get sheets delivered. Our grill ran out of gas. The sliding screen door kept falling off the track. The refrigerator door shelves fell out and broke. The dock and deck both need some work. The cottage could have been cleaner. The cottage was very large but nothing special. No air conditioning. The lake view was beautiful. Fishing was very good. I thought it was very expensive for this type of rental.

About the host

Hosted by Fred Reynolds

Host profile image
Fred and Sue purchased the propery in 2007, and have enjoyed spending their time bringing the property back to life. They have four children, and enjoy coaching and participating in the many activities that having young ones entails!

Why they chose this property

Pine Lake has that 'Up-North Feel' while still being close to Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids. Our property is at the end of a private drive, and is surrounded by water on three sides. Our .6 acre level lot contains 392 feet of private frontage and plenty of room to spread out.

We purchased this property for these reasons as well as the fact that it is a flat lot -- that is, there are no steps to walk down to get to the water -- not many lots as nice as this one on Pine Lake.

What makes this property unique

Privacy! Totally Flat Lot!! 393 foot of Frontage!!!! TWO COTTAGES FOR RENT ON ONE LOT - Great for FAMILIES!!!!

Additionally, we are the last lot at the tip of the Bonifcae Point. We have privacy fence installed all along the back/West of the property, offering isolation from the neighbors and street.
