Casa Margarita: Simple and Rustic Retreat in the Heart of Cocles

Casa Margarita is ideally located in the heart of Cocles, just a short walk from the beach, restaurants, supermarkets, and other local attractions. It offers both convenience and a unique experience of Caribbean living.

This simple, rustic-style home, built in 1980, has been lovingly renovated over the years to welcome visitors. Its design reflects the laid-back and natural atmosphere of the Caribbean. Due to its proximity to the main road and essential services, you may occasionally hear the sounds of daily life and traffic, adding to its authentic local charm.

The property features a spacious garden with a private pool and BBQ area, perfect for family gatherings or relaxing with friends. The outdoor space offers both comfort and privacy, creating an ideal environment for unwinding.

The house itself has two levels:
- Upstairs, you'll find a loft-style open space with a large living area that overlooks the tropical garden. The open-concept kitchen, semi equipped with all basics to prepare your meals, provides a wonderful setting to cook while being surrounded by nature. The kitchen extends towards the garden, giving you a beautiful view from the second floor. This connection with the outdoors lets you enjoy the exotic animals and insects of the lush tropical environment, both during the day and at night.

- The main bedroom upstairs features a queen-sized bed, private bathroom, sofa, TV, and air conditioning, providing everything you need for a relaxing stay.

- Just outside the home, a pathway leads you directly to the beach, and you’re only a 10-minute drive from the vibrant town of Puerto Viejo.

Downstairs, there are:
- Two additional bedrooms, each with a double bed, air conditioning, and a safe. These rooms share a bathroom. We also have a double bed in the living area down stairs, this area does not have AC.

Please note that the property uses a combination of rainwater and well water, so we recommend purchasing drinking water for consumption and cooking.

For your peace of mind, we’ve installed various security measures, including alarms and security cameras. The cameras are positioned at the entrance, garden, and terraces, ensuring that they do not infringe on the privacy of our guests.

This is a "Pet-Friendly Home", but only one pet is allowed per stay, subject to prior approval. Please contact us before booking to discuss our "Pet-Friendly Home" policies and conditions, as well as the possibility of bringing a second pet. A pet fee of $45 per stay applies for each pet.

Security Deposit: This amount is an estimate and will not be held unless necessary. Depending on the extent of any damages, the actual charge may vary, and any costs will be requested through Airbnb.

Casa Margarita offers a simple and rustic experience with modern amenities, perfect for those seeking a relaxed and authentic stay. We look forward to welcoming you for an unforgettable experience in the Caribbean! 🌿🌴

Beautiful and convenient

The property is beautiful and an excellent place to relax and unwind while enjoying Costa Rica! The home is spacious and has multiple areas to relax and watch the birds, or just nap if that is what is needed. The upstairs kitchen area is well equipped and Has plenty of space to enjoy family or friends. Communication is prompt and friendly. We truly enjoyed our stay.

Treehouse

I have always wanted to stay in the treehouse in Costa Rica. The only problem was they’re out in the middle of the rainforest and I am a big beach person! This house gives you both. A half a mile down the road is the beach so you can enjoy all the beach stuff Upstairs kitchen and come in area to eat is the treehouse part so you have to understand it’s all opened up. Therefore elements to get in there’s probably why people have said it could be cleaner, but there’s no way because like I said, and you have the trees and tropics and everything around you. The downstairs was OK I think personally it could use some upgrading Oh, and all we had a nice time there! The kids would love the treehouse look has a hammock up there. The property was nice. The pool was nice. It has a grill. That’s what we did for a family gathering one night oh no I think you enjoy it.

An Amazing Week at Casa Margarita

We had a wonderful time at Casa Margarita. We communicated frequently with Nathalia and Monica, and they were responsive and very helpful! They helped make arrangements for transportation between San Jose and the house - request Harry - he's amazing! They also arranged for an absolutely wonderful bird tour led by Ricky (who is a gem!) - I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in CR wild life and willing to get up at the crack of dawn. In a trip of many high points, this was one of the peaks! Casa Margarita was a good house for our group of 4. The house is clean and the owners provided a maid service halfway through our stay. We had a minor plumbing issue and they had someone check it out almost immediately, so they were very responsive. There is a master bedroom upstairs with a full bath (it has a curtain for a door), two bedrooms downstairs with one full bath inside and one full bath outside. The main kitchen and hanging out area is also on the second floor. It is open on 3 sides and is a fully functional kitchen. There are lovely patios with hammocks on both floors. The grounds are great - there are fruit trees, coconuts, and a very nice pool. Right across the street from the house is a wonderful panaderia (bakery) where we got fresh baked goodies for breakfast each morning - try the Queque con Queso. Next door to that is a restaurant (La Nena) that makes this chicken with rice and beans that's one of the best things I've ever eaten. There are two grocery stores just a short walk from the house where you can pick up whatever provisions you need. And there's a lovely, quiet stretch of beach about 100 yards down a walking path. The house is on a busy street - there's plenty of traffic, and road noise - so if you're looking for a quiet retreat, this might not be the place for you. Also, the house itself is on two levels with some steep stairs, so it's better for people that are physically confident. Tuk-tuks and taxis are decent for transportation, but if you want to explore freely, a car would be handy.

Nice place, convenient location

We came to this area for the 3-4 ft consistent waves and cocles beach did not disappoint. The swells were regular and easy to surf. The main beach break was guarded by three lifeguards throughout the day. The home was about a 10 min walk to the main beach but we took the motorcycle cabs most days because they were fun and cheap. The beach that was a 30 second walk from the home was not ideal for surfing but was good for general play. The home was spacious and clean and we enjoyed it immensely. At the end of each day we’d swim in the pool and my family really enjoyed having that pool. Convenint walking distance to the home was a nice market and good restaurants. The only downside from the trip was that the home was next to the road and there was regular traffic noises. It wasn’t crazy annoying. But the sound of a motorcycle or truck passing by was consistent. The management team for the home was tremendous. It Really felt like we had on-demand help with all sorts of logistics. They booked the van trip to and from San Jose and got us set up with the zipline tour directly from the home. They took the stress out of the trip. We would definitely come back again

Fun house

We really enjoyed villa margarita. Excellent location. Woke every morning to the sound of howler monkeys. We were there during Holy Week so was a crazy busy week. Upstairs and open kitchen was grand. Short walk to beach. We saw fireflies each night. Birds too. We would stay there again. Thanks

Nice house but not set up for 2 independent couples

I rented the upper loft for my wife and I, and a couple of weeks later friends of ours agreed to join us; they were taking the lower level apartment. However, the lower level is not really set up for independent living, especially if you intend to use the advertised kitchen. The full house is appropriate for shared use of the loft kitchen/eating area with the lower bedrooms only being used for sleeping. The house is also located next to the main road so there is some traffic noise. But the loft area is a great place to hang out in the shade and there is a good cross breeze. The pool was very refreshing and we found the water quite warm from the hot Puerto Viejo sun. The beach is a short walk down the path from the house and it truly is beautiful; a great place for walks. There are two well-rated restaurants (La Nena and La Pecora Nera) and a bakery a short walk to the left of Casa Margarita on the main road, and the Cocles supermarket is an easy walk to the right. A bicycle rental shop is located right beside the bakery and they do not require you give them your passport; they take a photo of it. With the bikes it was a pleasant drive to Punta Uva and Puerto Viejo. Nathalia, our prime contact at the property management company, was extremely helpful in coordinating the details of our visit and reserving shuttles to and from the house. This was our first trip to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica but it won't be our last!

Lovely house, convenient location

For our family of young and older adults, this was absolutely the most perfect house and location. Restaurants, stores and beaches are within close walking distance. Punta Uva, the town of Puerto Viejo, and attractions like the Jaguar Rescue Center are within easy biking or walking distance (including the restaurant La Pecora Nera). The jungle is all around, but the property is completely secured by fencing and there's a feeling of security as well as privacy. The managers (Mao when we were there) were so helpful, before and during our visit, and always available. The saltwater pool was lovely, and we had it all to ourselves since we rented the entire house. Star-gazing from the lounge chairs by the pool at night was amazing. Every morning we walked along the dirt road through the jungle to the beach to watch the sunrise. We took flashlights to see the leaf-cutter ants doing their thing along the path. Some mornings the howler monkeys would be right up overhead, which was thrilling to hear. There were so many different birds in the area around the house, including toucans. On the beach, where the nearby creek feeds into the ocean, there was a variety of shore birds there every morning. At the house, we spent most of our time at the pool or upstairs in the open kitchen area. It was always comfortable, with a ceiling fan as well as a floor fan and plenty of seating for six, including rockers and a hammock. It was the dry season so we had no problems at all with mosquitoes. The bedrooms were air conditioned, which provided a nice break from the humidity. The bedrooms also had screened windows that could be opened if preferred to a/c. We cooked a lot of our meals and found the kitchen well-equipped. If you rent the entire house there is also an indoor kitchen downstairs, but we didn't use it at all. There's a charcoal grill by the pool that we used one night to grill some fresh fish. Plenty of towels are provided, with extras for the pool. If you rent for an entire week, someone will come mid-week to clean, bring clean towels, and even change the sheets if you want. We loved the house. Away from the crowds of Puerto Viejo, but within biking distance, close to Playa Cocles (with a lifeguard and surfboard rentals), surrounded by nature, but also in the midst of a vibrant community, it was the perfect location for our family--just what we were looking for.

Great Experience

Wow what a great time we had. So relaxing and peaceful. We loved the true jungle that was all around us and the monkeys and so many birds right by our patio. Our amazing hosts Ken and Shelly took us to this great restaurant called El Fugio soso good. Thanks guys, you're awesome!!! The ocean is bath warm, we had so much fun playing in the water.I would definitely recomend this place for someone who wants to get away from it all. Yet there is lots to do if you wish to. We did the zipline, it was so exhilarating. Cant wait to go back.

The perfect place for our family.

This place was perfect for our two small families. The two bedrooms had air conditioners which were small but did a great job keeping them cool enough. The huge yard around the house was awesome. The house was furnished well with everything we needed. The beach next to the house was also just what we wanted. The owners we extremely kind and helpful. They lent us extra beach toys for the kids which was great. Everything was as we had hoped or better.

Pretty comfortable house

We stayed here for 5 nights and it has a great location near all the nice beaches in Limon, and also near facilities and stores that you can go walking. The beach is right there and you can even listen the waves at night, it’s fantastic. Thank you for your hospitality and effort to make us feel like we were home

Any thing you want it to be!

My husband and I did our first non all inclusive holiday here. It was amazing. I will never go all inclusive again. The property was so beautiful with lush green and beautiful flowers. We got to see amazing birds and butterflies as well as lizards right on the property. The beach was so private and not busy at all. We could hear the waves crashing from the house. The food was fabulous, we didn't have one meal we didn't enjoy. The owners were so nice and helpful with every aspect of this holiday. I felt like I was at home but without the snow. The outdoor shower and cooking area was a fun place to unwind and visit with the other people staying on the property. We made some great friends. The zip line we did was awesome and there are many activities to choose from. Everything is walking distance from the property which was really fun. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great escape from it all.

Fun, relaxing and great for the family!

Just returned from an awesome vacation at Ken and Shelley's. Beautiful property, excellent hosts, beautiful beach a short walk, Sloth visiting, howler monkeys howling, toucans. Close to all kinds of activities and yet laid back. We went ziplining and our 9 and 11 year olds loved it as did we. Would love to go back and we recommend a stay here.

Fantastic Accomodations and Location

This property is perfect. We have stayed in many resorts and busy beach areas and this is one of our favorites. It is such a nice change from the hussle and bussell of busy vacation destinations. The location couldn't be better. It is literally 200 steps to the beach and just a few more to the local resturants and the grocery store (which has everything and more including wine, liquor and beer) . The food is so good everywhere you go. Ken and Shelly were fantastic hosts. They had everything in the Cabina ready for us, they made sure we were happy and booked the zip lining and whitewater rafting for us. I recommend the zipline, it was awesome. The whitewater rafting was really scary for me but a thrill. The property is very clean and nicely layed out. The outdoor shower is wonderful, great way to rinse off the salt water and sand when you return from the beach. . The area is nice and quiet but close enough to Puerto Viejo if you want some night life and shopping. I will definatly return.

Alone at last!

Nature with the amenities! Loved the transfer from San Jose to Cocles. Good way to see the mountains and awesome counrtyside of Costa Rica. The beach was less than 250 steps from the security gate of the property. Nothing between the house & beach besides a few swaying palms. Outdoor shower was so refreshing after a day at the beach. The gardens along the house/outdoor BBQ are beautiful. Local eateries with friendly staff & good affordable meals. Cheap Rum :) Enjoyed the area and Ken's tour thru the Banana fields to the River that crossed to Panama. Great hosts & good hospitality. Most memorable moment: While playing in the ocean; looking back at the shoreline, I could see no one and no house, just the palm trees. Felt like my own private Caribbean oasis!
