About this property

The Cub (On The River)

We have a Log Cabin on the River for rent. This one is The Cub No Pets allowed in this one. Nestled in a picturesque mountain valley in Western North Carolina, our hand built cabin is located on the French Broad River, surrounded by the National Forest and the mountains that gave the Blue Ridge its name. Privately situated, our two-bedroom cabin has excellent views, with lots of wide open space around it, with meadows, mountains or water around it, the shady front porch is a favorite spot come rain or shine. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway you won’t find a nicer spot to settle in for a while. If an active outdoor vacation is more your style, River Lodge Log Cabins is a great place to come home to after a hard day of hiking, biking or rafting. Our riverfront cabin offers the perfect vacation getaway for couples of all ages, small families. The cabin has a vaulted ceiling in the main room, two private queen bedrooms with antique furnishings, and a bath with a shower in each bedroom. The large sunny kitchen includes a side-by-side refrigerator, a gas cook stove, a convection oven/toaster, a microwave, dishwasher, and a coffee maker, and has a comfortable dining area. The covered back porch has a hand-made swing, a roomy private hot tub and a gas grill in the yard. Other amenities include full linen service for 4, a satellite TV, Central Heat and Air and a gas fireplace (Winter Use Only). The cabin accommodates up to 4 persons. Our Hot Springs, NC cabin rental is conveniently located just a short drive northwest from Asheville and the Biltmore Estate. We have safe, easy access year-round for all types of vehicles. Many guests will appreciate the large level parking areas. This is a log cabin we built ourselves. We used tongue and groove paneling on the walls and ceilings, and the floors are a fabulous mixture of colors of wood flooring. The metal roof makes music out of rainstorms! You’ll enjoy unique features such as handmade wood countertops and trim you just don’t get in “factory-built” cabins, plus the satisfaction of knowing that local labor and love were part of creating our cabin for your enjoyment, here by the riverside. We recommend stopping to get your groceries before getting to Hot Springs as we do not have a major grocery store, just a Dollar General.

A great getaway weekend!!! Awesome vibe!!!

Very clean and well organized. Nice layout and a great vibe for a getaway weekend for me and my wife. Only two criticisms. The kitchen counters are amazing visually, but the oak slabs have warped over time making it difficult to find a level spot for measuring/cooking. (my wife and I LOVE to cook!!!). Wish there was more cooking tools, but now know for next time to bring equipment. Second, and I'll admit I am spoiled. I Wish the mattresses were newer. I sleep on a newer Casper mattress and it was hard getting a good night's rest. But everything else was awesome!!! Will absolutely book this amazing cottage for another weekend next fall despite those issues.

Cabin on the river

It was amazing. We enjoyed sitting on the back deck looking at the river. Kayaking was also alot of fun. We brought our own and went out a couple of times but they rent them in Hot springs. It was just me and my husband but the cabin has 2 bedrooms and bathroom in each room. Would be perfect for 2 couples or just one couple like us. The hot tub on the back deck was also very nice. We had a great time.

Perfect and relaxing

My wife and I recently enjoyed a delightful stay at The Cub on the River in Hot Springs, NC. Our experience was nothing short of perfect and incredibly relaxing. The cabin's proximity to the French Broad River added an extra layer of charm, making our mornings even more special as we sipped coffee while taking in the serene surroundings. The convenience of having fishing spots nearby added to the overall experience. Without a doubt, we would wholeheartedly recommend this tranquil retreat to anyone seeking a peaceful getaway. 100% would stay again.

Uncomfortable Bed!!! Skimpy on supplies!!!

The cabin and grounds are cute with a great location along the French Broad River. However; the cabin was lacking on some basic items such as bath soap, dishwashing liquid and the towels are small, very rough and some were tattered. We found the couch dirty, smelly and very dated. In fact, we had to use a blanket to cover the couch so we could sit on it due to smell and being unclean. One of the biggest down falls was the bed we slept on. It was so uncomfortable and sagged in the middle. The most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. We booked three nights but left after two because we couldn’t handle another bad nights sleep. The bed was horrible. We spent New Years Eve watching their TV with the volume going out every 15 minutes for the entire evening. Between the bed and the TV we decided to leave the next day. The owner was notified and instead of trying to remedy the situation, she told us she rolled across the bed and it didn’t sag. How is one person rolling across the bed comparable with 2 people sleeping on it? Trust me, it was saggy and very uncomfortable! She even said there was a quarter of a bottle of dishwashing liquid. Well, there wasn’t and I had to put water in it to make it last. So ok if she doesn’t provide body soap but why not fill up the hand soaps and make sure the beds are comfortable! It’s like the owner was very skimpy on what she did provide. When you rent a place to vacation at you expect a bit more than was offered here.

Cozy Authentic Log Cabin

We really enjoyed our stay just the two of us. Both bedrooms with their own bathrooms were pretty equal which is nice if traveling with another couple or friends. I appreciated driveway being level with the road and just being to drive in and out instead of being up on a mountain since we went out a few times a day a returned in the dark. The scenery in the back of house being right on a big river was beautiful. There are a lot of interesting upscale design features with the kitchen and bathrooms. I stayed there in early October and found the place to be very clean. I’m not sure how it could get any cleaner. Only complaint was it was pretty dark when we arrived close to midnight. There is only one motion detector light that gets activated only once reach the porch. We hope to be able to stay here again some day.

Return Rendezvous by the River

I can’t imagine staying anywhere else near Hot Springs after enjoying this delightful cabin overlooking the French Broad River. Lovely attention to detail at every glance… and clean as a whistle! Modernized kitchen appliances and art glass bathroom sinks, as well as cute little birdhouses adorning the porch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return soon! Linda Backes

Dirtÿ cabin

We traveled all the way to cabin and were very disappointed. The cabin was filthy and we didn't even stay the night. We drove back home that night because we couldn't find a reasonable place to stay, that was in our price range. Oweners did refund our money but we missed out on our vacation. A total waste of time plus we were out gas money and wasted vacation time from work.we took several pictures. Owner told us that when they went to check it was clean. The only thing was the vent above stove was a little dirty and that they could see through the filter and went ahead and cleaned it. A extremely disappointed couple. It was for oùr 40th Anniversary

Cozy riverside cabin

This has to be one of the best back porches I've ever enjoyed. My husband and I would have been happy spending our entire trip relaxing on the porch, watching the river. The location is a short, easy, and scenic drive to downtown Hot Springs and any other place you want to go. Beautiful mornings, beautiful evenings, beautiful starry skies. We loved our stay here.

Perfect for a weekend getaway

We rented for a girls’ weekend getaway. The pictures don’t do this lovely cottage justice! The kitchen is fabulous and many rustic features throughout. The outdoor space is much larger than it appears, and we made use of all of it. The calmness of the rushing River is the icing on an already amazing cake!!!

The Cub on the French Broad River

The rustic cabin was in such a perfect location and the porch overlooking the French Broad River was so peaceful. Beds were comfortable, the rustic details were very cool. The only thing that I would suggest is more kitchen items, coffee cups, silverware, cooking utensils and some foil, baggies, wrap, liquid dish soap, windex, etc.stocked for a 3 night stay so we didn't have to run to Dollar General and buy what we would only use a little of(we flew into Asheville- so had no chuck box)

Ken, Dakota and myself (Mary) Pangle were born and raised in Hot Springs, NC and are active members of their local church (Zion Missionary Baptist). As owners of Pangle’s Construction, LLC, we are involved in road and bridge construction, site development and property management, as well as the River Lodge Log Cabins riverfront rentals. We operate a sawmill across from their home on Meadow Fork Rd., where we produce custom lumber, including some of the materials used in building our riverfront cabin.

While Ken’s out on the job, I juggle the joys of motherhood and caring for our home with the various office duties of the construction and cabin rental businesses — answering the phones, doing the bookkeeping, reservations, and managing the website. In addition, I oversee the cabin housekeeping & maintenance so I still enjoy spending time with my family.

Discover the beauty of Hot Springs — take a relaxing vacation at the "River Lodge Log Cabins". As lifetime residents, Mary and Ken know firsthand what a great place Madison County is to work and play, and they look forward to sharing it with you.

Why they chose this property

We built this cabin on this piece of property near my grandparents place. This property joins the River which a lot of places does not. We got into the vacation rental business for a income for our retirement and something to hand over to our son (Dakota).

What makes this property unique

Sit on the porch or sit by the river with the light sparkling on the water as the wind rustles the leaves, and wave to the rafters as they come by. Take a picnic to enjoy next to the river.

As the sun fades over the river, everyone can enjoy a good meal (fresh trout, perhaps?) cooked on the gas grill and a well-deserved soak in the hot tub. Try to stay awake long enough to watch the stars come out — the Milky Way can put on a big show up here!

Enjoy a scenic drive in any direction — we are surrounded by the National Forest and its natural unspoiled beauty.

Don’t forget your camera — you might miss a once-in-a-lifetime shot! Keep a lookout for the wildlife — deer, turkeys, rabbits, raccoons, foxes, mink, groundhogs, otters, and yes, even black bears.

Bald eagles, kestrels, hawks, great blue herons, ospreys, falcons, purple martins, cedar waxwings, ravens, swallows, indigo buntings, goldfinches and an array of waterfowl can be spotted while sitting right on the front porch of your log cabin.

The large sloping lawn is a great place to enjoy the wide-open spaces — whether playing badminton, Frisbee, croquet (not supplied bring your own). In the evening you can sit by the fire ring, gaze at the stars or catch lightning bugs, dependent on age and inclination.

Walking out the door of your log cabin you can enjoy rafting, tubing and trout fishing, an easy stroll or bike tour down River Road, hiking or backpacking on the Appalachian Trail.

Cyclists will enjoy our two nearby mountain bike courses, or a quick run downriver to the Paint Rock Corridor (and the Tennessee state line) and back. River Road is coaster-bike friendly!

So many choices!
