This getaway is close to the Red River Gorge & located in the Daniel Boone National Forest which covers more than 700,000 acres along the Appalachian Mountain foothills and the Cumberland Plateau & containing an estimated 500 miles of trails through rugged terrain made of sandstone cliffs and exposed limestone rock faces. This trail network is larger than any other in Kentucky. Home to the largest collection of natural arches and bridges found east of the Rocky Mountains, the sandstone cliffs offer a lifetime of climbing opportunities at all levels & is one of the most popular climbing meccas east of the Mississippi. Among these cliffs is "Natural Bridge," a magnificent arch, which is 65 feet tall and 78 feet long, is one of the most famous natural sandstone arches.

Great family getaway

We really enjoyed spending time with family at this beautiful property. The pool and hot tub were big hits with both the kids and adults. The grounds were immaculate and the fishermen of our group loved the catch-n-release lakes. We did some hiking at Red River Gorge—a 50-60 minute drive to Natural Bridge.

Christmas present to kids

We enjoyed our stay. Everything was nice. Kitchen had everything you would need and more. Bedrooms were all nice and spacious. Pool was up and going the end of March. The kids loved that. Our family loves the outdoors. They enjoyed fishing both ponds. Exploring and hiking. If we didn’t have other plans, we could have just stayed at the house and explored all there was to see right there. The hot tub had a very strong chemical smell. It did get better during our stay, but was still strong. It would be nice if the furniture was a little more comfortable. We like to relax and stretch out after hiking during the day. Most of the furniture are chairs. A few couches or lazy boys where you can kick your feet up would be nice. Other than that we had a great time. Julie answered all questions we had quickly.

Family vacation 🎣

Had a wonderful stay at Julie’s property. The kids all had a blast in the pool and there was everything you could think of needing. If you like to cook then you will be in heaven once you see the kitchen, very efficient. This is a great place to gather with friends and family, good fishing too 🙂

Beautiful Place

Great place to spend a summer week relaxing with friends and family. Very remote, which we loved - quiet, peaceful, lots of stars at night! Almost no cell service, but great internet. Host was good - very thorough, very welcoming . Was a little disappointed that the photos showed some beautiful buildings on the property which we learned were off limits when we received a waiver to sign two days prior to arrival.

Family get-a-way

The property was perfect for our family of 15 to include 3 generations. The kitchen is stocked with anything that you may need. We had our meals on the outside deck and had no issues with bugs. The kids enjoyed the pool, the canoes in the pond and the fishing was good as well. The roads to get to the property are very winding and narrow, but a good slow drive. The only drawbacks to the property is that you can hear everything in the house, kids having conversations on the floor above, people walking on floors and stairway. The other consideration is the distance from a store, it was a 25 mile drive to Walmart for some items we forgot and a better selection of produce and some other groceries. We would stay again it truly was very restful and a beautiful location.

A wonderful family vacation!!

We had a wonderful time! The pool and fishing on the two docks were the highlight of the trip! We were in the pool morning, noon and night! The grandkids loved swimming in the dark!! The kitchen was perfect for all of us. All 15 of us were able to eat all our meals on the porch. We had a kids table and an adult table. When it was really hot, we would stay inside and play card games, dominos, etc… at the big table. Julie was extremely quick in getting back to us with any answers to our questions. She was very easy to work with. The time just flew by for all of us. Thank you for giving our family a great vacation!

Rustic Haven

The perfect retreat for a large family to unplug and come together! My family had the pleasure of making this beautiful 50-acre farm our home for the Christmas holiday. It can be a challenge to find a place that feels like home and sleeps my entire immediate family (in-laws and kids included; 16 people) comfortably, but this cabin had everything we needed. Julie greeted us upon arrival and gave us a quick walk-thru of the property. She was very welcoming and kind! We enjoyed s’mores with the kids by the fire pit and conversations on the upper deck on the swings. The kids enjoyed board games and dancing in the Great room. The kitchen was fully equipped for all of our culinary needs; waffle maker, griddle, mixers and more, so meal-making was a breeze. The beds were very comfortable and extra linen/towels were in abundance. I highly recommend this property if you are looking for peace of mind and relaxation.

Relaxing Family Vacation

We had a great time relaxing with our large family. Spent lots of time in the pool and porches playing cards and doing puzzles. The older kids enjoyed evening time in the hot tub. Spacious enough for everyone to spread out and enjoy a peaceful week. Grounds and flowers are beautiful. We had a day of family olympics on the patio and front yard. The kids did a kayak cave tour and we all hiked to the Natural Bridge in the Daniel Boone park. Julie was great to work with and greeted us and on the first day to show us how to use everything.

Awesome getaway!

Julie’s property was amazing. I traveled with three teen children, my spouse, his mom, my parents, best friend and her two teens and parents. There was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space but also to gather and visit. The weather was perfect for the pool or deck. Julie was very receptive and quick to respond back with questions. There were tons of towels and washer/dryer available to do your own laundry if needed. The location is quite rural so getting into even a small town takes at least one hour. The closest small grocery store is 30 minutes away. We all had a great time and loved the experience and time together.

We enjoyed everything about this property. So much room inside and out. The beds were comfy. The appliances all worked. Thanksgiving Week Getaway

My family of 5 and another family of 4 came together Thanksgiving week to rent this wonderful property. We were looking for a place that was secluded, in nature, and was big enough for all of us to sleep and spend time. This property delivered and then some. The property is so serene and relaxing. Absolutely beautiful grounds and was extremely well kept. We hiked around the property, fished in the pond almost every day, utilized the hot tub, and roasted marshmallows by the outdoor fire pit at night. We did some research on hikes in nearby Daniel Boone Forest and Red River Gorge which we would venture to every day. Julie was a fantastic owner. She was extremely communicative and answered any question we had. She was so easy to work with and we so appreciated that. We were traveling for Thanksgiving so she answered any kitchen type questions for us which helped us prepare the food that we were going to bring and any preparation we needed for cooking it day of! Overall, great experience and great memories for our family!

Summer getaway

This property was great, we stayed with three other families with small children. The pool is amazing and the owner kept it nice and warm for us since we had small children. Lots of privacy on the property and a ton of activities to do. We stayed in the bedroom in the basement and it was the coolest room, the only complaint was that you can hear every footstep above. If you are not a morning riser stay in an upstairs bedroom and not the basement. Other than that I would highly recommend this property to families - it was the perfect getaway for our families.

Perfect Getaway!

Sunset Ridge Farm was the perfect getaway for our group! The property is beautiful with a great in-ground pool and 2 lovely ponds for boating & fishing. The house is very well appointed with comfortable bedding & furniture-- higher quality than we're used to in similar rental properties. The kitchen has amazing top of the line appliances, so cooking every meal was very easy. The AC worked perfectly and kept us all comfortable. The house has a shockingly fast internet connection despite being out in the countryside. Ironically, their internet connection is faster than what's currently available at my house in Columbus, OH... The bathrooms were very nice too, although if I were to nitpick, the water pressure for the shower was pretty weak. At night, the outdoor fire pit was lovely and gave us great views of the stars. Our stay just happened to be at the peak of the Perseid meteor showers, so that made our nights extra special. It was also so nice that they provided us with firewood. Additionally, there was a substantial amount of kids toys for use in the upstairs bedroom, which was a very nice feature for our group since we had multiple kids. Everyone in our group loved our stay, and we would definitely jump at an opportunity to stay here again. Thank you Julie for hosting us!

wonderful getaway

Gorgeous property with lots of character! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - away from everything except nature. We had 3 kids under 6 with us - they had plenty of room to run & play - indoors and out. The pool was in great shape, water & atmosphere perfect. We had a great time fishing & canoeing on property. Property owners have thought of everything in terms of accommodations. Kitchen fully stocked - we were able to cook big meals everyday/night, given our remote location. We hope to return in the future with 2-3 families.

Why they chose this property

Few properties, that claim to be secluded or private, rarely are, and advertised as log cabins, are generally never authentic log structures, as this one. The #1 reason for us purchasing this property was for the total seclusion it has provided us for over 27 years. When we say we have no neighbors, we have NO neighbors. The phrase, "Its so quiet you could hear a pin drop", can truly be used everyday at out property.
We raised our 3 amazing adult children here, and have never regretted it for one minute. It has been many things to us over the past 27 years ... Our daughter began showing Rocky and Ky Mountain horses at age 8, and the property has served well as a place to breed, raise, and train horses. Madison now lives in Atlanta with her husband Ian and our granddaughter Mila, and manages different companies accounting departments. At a young age, my oldest son Elliot, turned the Great Room into a recording studio where he began his music career as a singer/songwriter, lead singer in his band, & music producer/audio engineer. He used the studio to record his own albums, as well as other artist, because of the quiet tranquil setting, in which they could write songs and record. He now lives in Nashville with his wife Elizabeth & our granddaughter Sylvia June. Dalton, my youngest son was a dynamic baseball pitcher since the age of 8, he went on to college to pitch & majored in engineering. He now lives in Bowling Green, Ky with his wife Olivia and our 2 grandchildren Emerson & Crew, where he operates large cranes.
My husband owned a coal mining business for 35 years, and there isn't anything he can't create or build. We decided after becoming empty nesters, we should create a way for others to enjoy the peace we have found here, if you can dream it, we can host it! So we now offer Sunset Ridge Farm Events Wedding/Event Venue & Wilderness Lodge. Sunset Ridge Farm Events on the web.

What makes this property unique

TOTAL SERENITY ... with two 1 acre Lakes/ponds to fish in, its fully stocked with blue gill, catfish, bass, sunfish (all catch & release), feed the fish, catch a glimpse of the prehistoric 6 ft long paddle fish in the lower pond or relax in the 2 canoes & johnboat on either pond, right outside the cabin door. Wildlife viewing at its best ... I love photography, so I have been blessed with capturing the best of the best pics on the property over the past 27 years including: bald eagles (diving for bass in pond), river otters in the pond, beavers in pond, turtles, many species of dragonfly, geese nesting, hatching, and hanging around, blue heron, trophy deer, turkey, fox, rabbits, squirrels, many species of birds, etc.
Hiking & exploring on the property, in the adjoining Daniel Boone National Forest property, or down to Black Water, part of the Licking River which is very close. There are cliffs, waterfalls, caves, etc. all around within hiking distance, no need to get in a car to get started.
Relax on the back deck, overlooking the pool and lower Lake/pond, or on the front porch, with coffee and a view of the rolling fields. Nap on the screened porch that overlooks the pool and lower Lake/pond. Swim in the swimming pool, or melt in the covered hot tub when it's raining or snowing.
Come inside and play a game of pool on custom regulation size table, or catch up on web with high speed fiber optic internet and great wifi.
If you need a true GETAWAY, with NO neighbors, where you can actually hear a pin drop, then this is your destination! For more pics and information: Sunset Ridge Wedding/Event Venue & Wilderness Lodge on facebook or Sunset Ridge Farm Events on the web.
