Elegant, Stylish Beach Cottage in Pristine Setting
We totally overhauled our historic Night Heron beach cottage as of February, 2023 with a focus on style and comfort. The Night Herons are unique, nine sided structures that dot a lush setting in Hilton Head's exclusive Sea Pines Resort where their clusters of glass, cathedral ceilings and wide, screened decks give guests an intimate experience of the island's natural beauty. We built on these roots by adding modern comforts like premium appliances (including under an undercounter refrigerator/freezer that greatly improve cooking space), ceramic tile floors, dedicated wine fridge, free streaming TV and a new Nectar King mattress.
A stay in Night Heron guarantees you a top notch location--it's a quick (3-4 min.) stroll through a grove of pine trees to one of the world's most enchanting beaches and fabulous biking, sunbathing and swimming. Guests also get access to a generous pool with newly refurbished shower and changing facilities. All yours to enjoy!
Please respect these few rules:
1. No pets are allowed at the property at any time.
2. No children under 18 are allowed at any time.
3. Only two overnight guests are permitted and no more than four people total at any time in the cottage. This is a tranquil setting, not a party house so please if you want to be up late or loud find somewhere else. Thanks!

This property is in a nice quiet area and very walkable to the beach. We appreciated the natural light and modern decor. If you are staying with a family, there is not a dishwasher and a small fridge/ freezer. Nice to have a washer and dryer available in this rental.
We love Night Heron. Very quiet and beautiful. The condo is very nice and we enjoyed our stay. We have e-bikes so this is a nice location to the gate to ride on the Island since they are not allowed in Sea Pines. Also very close to the beach. Next time, as a personal preference, I would like a dishwasher and larger refrigerator and freezer. The communication was great - we had a great stay.
I enjoyed our stay! The only feedback I'd give is that the cleaners need to triple check behind them as we found someone's underwear in the top drawer when we went to put our clothes in there.
The cottage was prefect for two. Just a three minute walk to the beach. Definitely recommend renting bicycles and beach chairs. Would definitely stay again!
Wow, so happy to have stayed at this property.
Beautifully renovated & the back screened-in patio was so private. Enjoyed the deer/wildlife.
Amazing stay.
Thank you!
Great little beach bungalow for my husband and I. We have stayed in the Night Heron bungalows before and this one did not disappoint. Spacious for 2 people, close to the beach with a secluded feeling. The bungalow had everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We would certainly book again!
Even more impressive in person. Nicely done decor and open spaces inside and out. The screened in deck was great for private dining and enjoying the beautiful greenery surrounding the place.
A great location, just a fourth a mile away from where our main group (15) where staying. Perfect for two people. One missing, amenity.. a freezer, which I "assumed" there would be. After checking amenities, it was not listed, nor was the small refrigerator.....but, thankful it was there. Lesson learned don't "assume". A lovely week!
House was clean & recently decorated. Very nice screen porch. Property manager was swift & helpful with response to our questions. Enjoyed the location and neighborhood.
We stayed here for a long weekend (4 nights) over Memorial Day. Location is great…just inside the Sea Pines Gate with an easy bike ride/walk to the beach. Screened deck was a great place to unwind and relax. Listing said there was a dishwasher but there wasn’t. Not a huge deal for us as we ate out most meals.
This place was great. Relaxing and accommodating. Please know there is NO freezer. Maybe it was mentioned but I may have overlooked it. Both drawers are refrigerator only. If you stop on your way to this place, DON"T buy a 1/2 gallon of ice cream hoping to have it for dessert during your stay. You will have to consume it when you arrive. Also, no mirror that shows anything below the chest. (above the bathroom sink). I went to Walmart and purchased a full-length mirror that I brought home. Wanted to see if everything was "tucked in" before going out for the evening. The App and emails were very helpful. And wish the guard wouldn't have insisted on the $9 cash to enter the first day. Could have returned with the pass in literally 5 minutes.
Great location but this unit is old and fairly nasty. Could use a complete remodeling and new updated furniture and appliances. Really bad bug problems. Lots of roaches and ants stayed with us too! Parking for this unit is a shared parking area with unit next to ours. It’s barely big enough for two medium to large vehicles. Probably will not book this unit again.
My wife and I enjoyed our 7 day stay. We would stay here again. We did have a problem that was addressed by the owner. We first entered the house to find the under counter refrigerator turned off and the door open. This was alarming. After texts back and forth to remedy the issue I was able to fix it. The owner of the property had already arranged to install a new unit and he did so a few days later. I appreciate his willingness to expedite the issue. The house is very well decorated and the layout is cozy. The washing machine cold and hot are switched and a label says as much but I think this could be easily fixed in 5 min by switching the feeds on the back of the machine. Some people don’t want their clothes in hot water. Everything else worked as it should and the unit was clean. The king size bed was quite comfortable. The screened porch was a nice place to hang out. We enjoyed our stay in the house and the closeness to the beach, pool, and restaurants make this a place we would stay in again.

This property is poorly maintained and was not adequately cleaned. Very outdated
Front porch rail covered with nut shells (stuck to railing) and other detritus and back deck screens and floor very dirty. Rug on back deck looked as though it had never been washed. Kitchen floor sags so table is very uneven. Absolutely no chairs except for those at the kitchen table. Only a sagging couch in living room. This could be a nice property if maintained properly and updated. This unit has not been well cared for. Roof actually has moss growing on it.
Check in/out process was quite easy, as was finding the property. Notified prop mgrs. of an issue on arrival - broken, rather definitely on its way to being broken coffee table - but never heard back for the week we were there. Short 5-10 min. walk to beach, 1 mile from Sea Pines beach club house (if u want to park there, get a spot EARLY, they don't allow parking for VRBO folks after first 50 spots are taken). House was clean on arrival, aside from some outside construction/electrical debris - no big deal though! Screened-in porch was quite welcome with seating for 4. If you're heavy into cooking your own meals, it's a bit of a challenge... counter space is limited (layout of house is what it is) though the dining table worked well enough ☺️ Outdoor hose/shower was definitely a plus. Parking a wee tight (have a Buick Enclave), but workable. WiFi worked great. All-in-all, would recommend! Thanks for letting us stay!
Location, location, location. Just a short 5 minute walk to the beach, which is very important since beach parking is scarce. We were the first renters after the gorgeous February 2023 remodel project. The stainless steel under-counter fridge and freezer frees up more counter space above the pull out drawers. Next to the fridge is a slim wine cooler, which also works well for beer or hard seltzer. Excellent counter lighting for cooking. The new king size bed was very comfortable. We liked the contemporary style beach furniture and wall lighting. The best feature is the large screened in porch with teak furniture. Not only is it lovely but it extends the living area through easy access from the tv/kitchen area or the bedroom sliding glass doors. We also value the private view out every window due to the beautiful palmetto landscaping.
The BeachBum manager, Jim Brown, was very responsive to our questions and requests. Check-in process is a breeze. Garbage is picked up twice a week: Wednesday & Saturday. You don’t have to move the bins from their outdoor storage space.

Cute Yurt by the Sea
Stayed here for a week and loved the location. The unit has been freshened up and minimalist. It’s about time for a refresh but otherwise it was clean and quiet.
The only issue I had was with the property management company. I received my welcome email and it had the code to get in the home. Once I got inside and looked for the house binder I realized there was NO information about the unit. I had to text to ask about how to lock the door!
There were no instructions on how to work the oven, the tv or how to locate the beach. Things like knowing I shared a parking pad with the neighbor could have helped.
The WiFi password had been crossed out and written to the side. At least update and freshen up the binder. Include information about appliances, ways to the beach, local information and the neighborhood guidelines.
My big issue was the lights outside the unit weren’t working. I emailed twice and got a response that they would take a look at it. Instead they dropped off a box of light bulbs which didn’t fit nor did I have a ladder to reach the lights.
The email to confirm checking out basically had the tone of be out by 10 because we have someone coming in right behind you. Not friendly, approachable or warm.
If you never stayed on the island before you may want to consider either doing a lot of research so you are prepared or rent from a different company that will make you feel welcomed.

Not what we hoped for
Unit was not the cleanest. Hair on baseboards in bathroom. We saw several roaches during the week. Kitchen was not very well stocked with cooking utensils. We had to wash every dish we used because they were dirty. Found dirty pizza pan in oven. Coffee table was broke and wobbly. Bed was starting to sink in the middle. The screened porch needed some TLC. The furniture on porch was nasty and very uncomfortable. The refrigerator was missing rails in the door so you could not put items in door. Refrigerator was small with wire racks and things fell over easy. Washer and dryer was super small. We got blanket out of closet and it was covered in white dog fur. Could not use the closet due to it was more of a storage closet for brooms, mops, vacuum and other things. Did not want to hang my clothes with dirty mops and brooms. The bathroom and kitchen really needs updated. They left two half used rolls of toilet paper. They shampooed the carpet right before we got there and it was still wet and was very perfume smelling for about 24 hours. Last years unit in the same area spoiled us last year. Parking is only for smaller vehicles. No tv in bedroom which we like but not everyone does. It also could use some hooks on screened porch and bathroom next to shower for towels and swimsuits.
I have been staying at this property once or twice a year for for the past ten years. The property and location keep me coming back.
The owner / property manager are great to work with. Seamless check-in, excellent communication. Highly recommended!
This house has not been maintained, holes in the screen on the porch, fans loud and not working property, stains on carpet, etc. The house was not cleaned properly - had dead bugs all over the floor and floors not vacuumed or mopped properly. In their defense, I didn't call the property management office since I have a dog and didn't want the disruption of a cleaning crew coming back in. The property management company was very easy to work with and communicated well.
This is the second time we have stayed in the Night Heron area of Sea Pines, and you can’t beat the location. The proximity to the beach is incredible. It can be very humid in this area, so don’t be surprised if you see bugs and frogs every once in a while, and if you think that will be a problem, the houses in this area may not be for you. The house had a bit of a musty smell, but like I said, it can get very humid, so I think the A/C wasn’t able to keep up. Overall, a nice place that may need a few touchups, but the proximity to the beach can’t be beat.
