We stayed for 2 nights with our family of 5 (kids ages 7, 5, 2). The apartment was plenty large. We parked our rental car in the safety of an alcove, off the main street just in front of the apartment. Lorenzo met us at the door since he lives just next door. Overall impressions are that this was the correct housing choice for our visit to Venice.
Pros: 1) Apartment is conveniently located less than a block away from the direct tram into Venice. It is just a 4 stop ride into Venice. And there is no confusion as to where it picks up and drops off in Venice itself.
2) Lorenzo, the host, is super helpful and very gracious. As other reviewers said, he works in the koisk at the tram stop. We arrived in the late afternoon and still wanted to go into Venice for dinner. He walked with us to the closed kiosk to print tram tickets which are only 3 euros per person round trip. 3) Apartment is spacious and clean. We were really only there to sleep, but if needed, there was room to relax and enjoy. 4) Less than half the price of living in Venice. I had investigated other options, but decided that I could live with commuting into Venice if it was convenient, especially with 3 young children. Fully recommend this option instead of staying overnight in Venice. Just parking the car in the Venice garage would have been nearly the same cost as staying with Lorenzo.
Cons: Not much. I am stretching here to think of anything. But if I have to mention something, maybe some newer bath towels would be nice. They were definitely older and smelled a bit musty. Look, this is not a complaint, just a suggestion.
If you are looking for a good alternative to the ridiculous hotel prices in Venice, this is a wonderful alternative. Specifically, Lorenzo's unit makes for an easy entry into Venice. A very good choice. Thank you, Lorenzo, for sharing your home and making my family's stay so comfortable.
