About this property

Baldwin House with the Peach Floor

The Baldwin House with a Peach Floor is a Victorian house built in 1907. The house has been well maintained and still sports original beautiful woodwork, radiator heating, and a fabulous sleeping porch. The house has been in our family since 1968 and is family owned and operated now.
Furnishings in the house are eclectic with an artsy Victorian BoHo flair.
There are four full bedrooms, a sleeping porch, and a Victorian BoHo hippie pad on the third floor that is available to groups over six.
Hopefully you will be able to enjoy the large sleeping-porch off of Steph’s Room (weather permitting). There is one full beds on the sleeping-porch. Perfect for reading, telling stories, and just enjoying the weather, without being directly outside. The sleeping porch does not have climate control so keep that in mind when booking larger groups. Groups over 6 people can use the boho hippie pad.
Vaughn’s bedroom on the second floor sleeps two with a double bed, Steph’s room sleeps one with a single bed (The sleeping porch is off Steph’s room), Elizabeth’s Room is another single with a single bed, downstairs is Joe’s room which has a private bath and includes a queen bed. In total the house will sleep 11 people year round and 13 in fair weather.
The bedrooms are serviced by ac window units, not central air. The downstairs is cooled by a mini-split.
The kitchen is fully stocked and ready for you to cook and bake.
There are two tandem bicycle available that you are encouraged to use! Pedal around our little town and see all the sites, including the beautiful Baker University Campus.
You are free to use the brick patio, which is spacious and perfect for spring and fall dinning.
There is a charcoal grill available on the patio. The side yard is spacious and lovely for playing crochet or other yard games. Board games are plentiful in the house including; dominoes, Scrabble, Mensa games, various card games, Chinese checkers, marbles, words up, cribbage, backgammon, and pente.

perfect for our family

A beautiful old house, loads of charm, plenty of space, comfortable beds, well-stocked kitchen, great back yard and patio, right across the street from a grocery store. We loved our stay!

An amazing surprise!

We needed to replace a multi-room hotel option with someplace we could stay that was relatively close to the KU main campus in Lawrence and would accommodate our need for more than one bedroom and not break the bank. This charming house in Baldwin City was an amazing find and a lovely surprise! We were just 20 min from campus and were completely charmed by the intricacies of the house. Clean, well maintained, and a great place for a weekend with our family. We will definitely be back again!

Homey and comfortable atmosphere

We had 13 at the house and we still had plenty of room. The neighborhood was pleasant to walk in and overall the house was fun to stay in. Our host was very accommodating and friendly to work with! Thank you for a memorable stay!

Eclectic, creative, historic centrally located home

Wow! What a great place! Very spacious, centrally located and cleverly decorated. Loved all the details and interesting items to discover... absolutely spotless. Kitchen one of the best appointed I've seen, and beautifully vintage! The host was an excellent communicator and very accommodating. Within walking distance of campus, downtown, and a dollar store. You will be happy you chose this place and the beautiful town of Baldwin City

Interesting place

From the mannequins, dolls, and to the artwork the house was very interesting and a good conversation piece. Debi was very accommodating and the house was comfortable and roomy for our group to stay.

Stay away

The house was musty. We had to clean the bathroom and vacuum the floor. Someone did not do their job. We loved Baldwin City..... hated the house!

Tournament

Well, initially the listing stated the "care taker" wouldn't be on site during the summer months, but after I booked and paid, was notified he was staying at the property. The owner did make him make other arrangements when I said I was uncomfortable with that. When I arrived at the home, the house was not ready and the owner and her grandson were there doing laundry. There was a terrible odor coming from the care takers room and the kitchen was stocked with open food items, which was extremely difficult to keep the children out of. I do not recommend children staying at this house because of all the antiques. The home itself is beautiful and the owner was very nice and accommodating.

Why they chose this property

This house is the house that built me. The house I grew up in. When our father passed away the family put the property up for sale. I couldn't imagine a time when we could not all gather at our home. My youngest child was born in this house. I had to keep it in the family and I feel very blessed to have been in a position to purchase and renovate it into the home it is now. Different, but still... our home.
