Killarney friends trip

Five couples had a fabulous time at Coolclogher House. The house is wonderful - 7 spacious bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms. The kitchen is huge and has everything you would need. The living and dining rooms are furnished beautifully. And the grounds are like those of an estate. Mary the owner was great to work with. We had the best time and could not recommend it any more highly.

Absolutely wonderful!

Coolclogher House is absolutely wonderful!!!! We had a group of 11 people, ranging from 11 years old to 78 years old. The house was perfect, and the surrounding grounds/area was magical. Mary and Maurice were the most kind and gracious hosts!! Mary helped us plan our itinerary and set us up with a chef, day trips, a family photographer and an amazing falconry visit. It was a trip of a lifetime!!!

Thanksgiving in Killarney

We were a family of 13 that spent Thanksgiving at Coolclogher house. The house is magnificent- a quintessential Irish setting including sheep and rolling hills. Each room is beautifully decorated- clearly the restoration was done with great care. Mary is always around- helpful, kind, and joyous. She loves sharing her home. Killarney is a short ride away and a fabulous spot to explore. We all loved our holiday at Coolclogher house.

A special place

Our stay at Coolclogher House this holiday season with my family (ranging from 3-86 years old) was nothing short of magical. Mary went to great lengths to decorate beautifully for our Christmas in Killarney with family and friends. We all felt at home straight away in this gorgeous and comfortable home. Opening the window shutters each morning to take in the view of the misty meadow, the sheep grazing and the mountains beyond felt surreal. Mary and Maurice’s hospitality and generosity were second to none. Thank you for making our time in your lovely home so special.

Touchstoneof Peace, Serenity and a simpler life

I have had the honor of staying at Coolclogher House some ten years plus, usually when they are bringing in the hay, and can say that it warms my heart and soul every time I drive 'up the drive' and settle in for a cup of tea with Mary and Maurice. I feel so welcomed by their hospitality, so soothed by the beautiful landscape and immediately immersed in my “secret Ireland” where 'having a craic' is highly valued. I could not adore a place more! I am very blessed to have found the house and my friends, the Harnett’s. For a cup of tea with Maury and Maurice.

Amazing, Fantastic and Wonderful!

Our family spent a week at Mary and Morris's wonderful home. There were eleven of us and we all had a huge amount of space. The bedrooms are big, bright and airy. Mary and Morris have done such a wonderful job in restoring this property, it is the best done historic home I have ever seen. With 68 acres to roam around, you can contemplate the beauty of Ireland, watch amazing sunsets or just sit and be peaceful. It is such a restorative place. The kitchen is the oldest part of the house and definitely the heart of the home. We were able to cook several meals, which helped on food costs for eleven people. Mary and Morris were wonderful hosts and always making sure we were comfortable. She had tea and cakes waiting for us when we first arrived! I cannot recommend this house enough. If you are going to Ireland, stay with Mary and Morris! We cannot wait to come back!

Most amazing holiday in a perfect luxurious setting

We stayed in Coolclogher House for 3 nights and wished that we could have stayed longer. The visit was perfect in every way and the occasional rain didn't dampen our spirits or the enthusiasm of our three year old at all! She loved running around the large estate and visiting with the guinea fowls and resident tabby cat. The house is beautiful, elegant and luxuriously furnished. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace every afternoon/evening looking out on the immaculate grounds and distant mountains surrounding Killarney. The owners Mary and Morris are onsite and are unfailingly helpful and friendly. We had a lovely time getting to know them and appreciated all their spot-on recommendations. We only had a couple of days to explore the area, so spent a full day driving around the spectacular Dingle peninsula (loved the Dingle aquarium which may be the best little aquarium we've ever been to ever, Slea Head Drive, and having lunch at the Boatyard Restaurant with nice views of the harbor) and another day exploring Killarney. We enjoyed our jaunty ride through the Muckross Estate and Killarney National Park, walking up to the lovely Torc waterfall, and visiting Ross Castle at sunset to feed the local ducks and swans. We didn't sample the culinary delights of Killarney town as we enjoyed cooking in the cozy and wonderfully equipped kitchen at the House, and having meals in the gorgeous dining/living area. The house would be perfect for larger groups and families looking for a relaxed and quiet vacation while being close to all the city amenities of Killarney and beautiful scenic areas of southwestern Ireland such as the Ring of Kerry, Killarney National Park and Dingle Peninsula.

Coolcloger is a Rare Gem

We are a large family (12, including a 6 month old and a 2 year old) that likes to travel together. Of the many amazing vacations we've enjoyed, our stay at the Coolcloger House was at the very top of our list. The website gives a mere suggestion of the delights that await Coolclogher guests. The home, minutes from Killarney, has been restored by its owners, Mary and Maurice Harnett, to its former glory, with beautiful antiques, exquisite wallpapers, and historic paint colors. The bedrooms are perfectly appointed, each with its own bath and breathtaking vistas from every room to the Kerry countryside. The beds/pillows are very comfortable, the linens fresh and white and crisp. The kitchen is very well outfitted, complete with a 6-burner Aga oven/range. There are several large gathering spaces, and multiple fireplaces, one of which was prepared for us every night. Yet, Coolcloger is not austere; every space is inviting and comfortable. We felt all week like we were at the home of some generous relative. Mary and Maurice were on hand as needed throughout our stay to advise and guide us about everything from outings, meals (she has outstanding chefs on hand who can prepare meals as desired), shopping (she drove us to her butcher and baker), and even party planning. On this last point, let me say that she orchestrated a elegant dinner at Coolclogher for my husband's birthday, which included rack of lamb, a homemade birthday cake, and live Irish music and dancing. What a night! I wanted to cry (in fact, I did cry) when we left. Our family always wants to choose a new adventure when planning travel, but we all agree we'll return to Coolclogher!

An Absolute Marvel.

I could sit and write a novel about our week long stay at Coolclogher House. The pages would number in the many hundreds and be filled with words like "exquisite", "breathtaking" and "surreal". My wife and I were so fortunate to have our wedding at Coolclogher House this past September. Our immediate family and some friends joined us in what was the most amazing week of our lives. Leading up to our vacation Mary, the matriarch of the property, and I had many detailed email exchanges. She informed me that I shouldn't worry about anything at all and that she'd have everything in order by the time our family had arrived. She's wasn't kidding. Every detail had been buttoned up from fireplaces being staged some peat heat to the bottle of Jameson's waiting eagerly on the kitchen table (as requested). Mary masterfully runs the home, crossing all t's and dotting all i's, as her husband Morris tends to the extensive grounds. Together with the help of Lisa and their daughter Katie, the entire property seems to take on a life of it's own. It truly is a world class experience. Then there is the property itself. Again, in lieu of drafting a novel, there are so many words that could be configured in brilliant assembly that would never do the place justice. It's just that good. The home, each bedroom, the kitchen, the reading room, the dining room, the great hall, each fireplace, the old stable houses, the backyard, the backyard's backyard, each so unique and offering a place to create memories and realize dreams. These people and this property have allowed my family, my wife and I to create irreplaceable memories that will be with us forever. We are truly grateful to Coolclogher House and we plan on visiting many times again.

The golfers

I stayed at Mary and Maurice's with a group of friends and we used Coolclogher as a base. It turned out to be a lot more than that. Each of us was delighted with the house from the moment we entered the gates until we drove away a week later. What we felt on arrival got better every day. The style of the house was impeccable, every room was magnificent. We had everything we needed, every facility was there and everything was in perfect order. The attention to detail was way more than we could have hoped for and the personal touches from Mary and Maurice made the whole experience perfect. As for the nearby facilities: The centre of Killarney was a few minutes away by car. Restaurants and pubs offer a good variety of very decent food. All easy to find and all worth a visit. Mike Hedge

Elegant, Comfortable and a great location!

Our group had a wonderful stay for the week. The proximity to take day trips to the best sigh seeing spots is really nice. The interior is elegant and comfortable, which is a great and uncommon combination for houses of such history and character. I would certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting Killarney.

Brilliant, Beautiful and Bloody Good

There were 8 of us, all golfers, having a week playing courses around the Ring of Kerry. The house was perfect, great charm, brilliant kitchen for socialising, and Mary and Maurice were the best hosts. If we go back anywhere near Killarney there is only one place to stay.

Golden Wedding celebration with extended family

I cannot recommend Coolclougher House too highly. The house is beautifully appointed and the grounds are amazing. Our family party ranged from 4 to 80 years old and we all had a ball. The kids loved the space - endless fun playing football and hide and seek others any auntie or uncle they could coerce, feeding the hens and playing with the cat - who knew its place and always remained outside! Out older guests enjoyed just sitting outside taking in the beautiful views. We particularly enjoyed the family kitchen where we all congregated to wine and dine. Evenings spent in front of roaring fires in one of the 2 sitting rooms Mary recommended Jean Claude O'Connor as a chef for our special 50th party and he and his team did not disappoint. We had a wonderful time and thank Mary and Maurice for allowing us to have a memorable week in their beautiful home. You will not be disappointed if you choose Coolclougher House for your holiday home. The kids all cried when we left and Lucy aged 4 wondered why we had a house with only one staircase!

Amazing Place

I returned for my second stay at Coolclogher House, this time with a group of 14. I felt like I was coming home again. Mary and Maurice were again so welcoming and eager to make our stay memorable. The spacious house accommodated our group. Every bedroom was lovely and we delighted in our times together in the elegant dining room, the inviting sitting rooms and spacious and welcoming kitchen. The grounds, the surrounding Irish landscape, the proximity to Killarney National Park and the town center provided a great launching spot for excursions throughout southwestern Ireland. Coolclogher House remains a wonderful, beautiful home.

Our group of 14 friends and family members enjoyed a glorious week in Coolclogher Manor during the first week of June. We were hoping for a spacious, elegant and inviting home in which to spend a week in County Kerry. Our hopes and expectations were exceeded in every way. Mary is the consummate host. Her daily visits to check in on us were always a highlight of the day. Mary loves Coolclogher Manor (and for good reason as it is obviously a labor of love for Mary and Morris), but her ultimate passion seems to lie in doing her very best to make sure her guests have a great holiday experience in Killarney. The amenities and features of Coolclogher are too numerous to list in detail. But what made our stay so truly memorable were the "little" things. We will always remember the cozy fires that were prepared and ready for us when we came in from a cool, rainy Irish day. Our kids enjoyed playing the piano and exploring the stunning 68 acres of gorgeous Irish countryside that surround Coolclogher. We took advantage of the opportunity to have Claude and his staff prepare some meals for us. Not only was the food amazing, but sharing a fabulous meal together in the setting of such a beautiful and elegant dining room created just the right atmosphere. Every bedroom was luxurious and uniquely furnished with beautiful antiques. The "common" areas of the house are all sumptuously decorated, yet warm and inviting. However, everyone's favorite gathering place was the large, country style kitchen. We enjoyed breakfast together around the kitchen table, often with a warm fire going in the fire place. The surrounding area of County Kerry provides a wealth of activities and day trips to keep travelers of various types entertained for weeks on end. The only negative thing about Coolclogher was having to leave at the end of the week!

Wonderful week

We are a group of 10 Canadians who spent an marvelous week at Coolclogher House. We were greeted with a warm Irish welcome from the owner, Mary, who had great suggestions for what to see and do. The rooms are large and extremely comfortable with the result that we all thought are own room was the 'best.' The views from the house are spectacular. We travelled out each day to sightsee and golf, and it was always a delight to return home to Coolclogher, to sit outside and gaze at the view, or to sit inside in one of the comfortable sitting rooms. The house and its amenities definitely exceeded our expectations and we hope to return some day. All of us would highly recommend it.
