Historic Artist's Cottage on 5 Acre Property Near Blue Ridge Mts. and Wineries

Stay in the circa 1860 art studio of renowned landscape painter, Lucien Whiting Powell. Powell's enchanting, restored studio features French Country decor, sprinkled with local antiques throughout. The original beadboard ceiling and walls, rustic beams, and hardwood floors capture days gone by. The tall windows allow for sundrenched living, however, blackout blinds in the bedroom assure total privacy and darkness for a good night's sleep.

After a busy day of sightseeing or biking, relax on the comfy loveseat in front of the crackling fire with a glass of your favorite beverage, or enjoy your drink on the private stone patio surrounded by beautiful landscaping as you listen to the sounds of the soothing fountain. Witness the breathtaking view of the expansive lawn, mature trees, and stone fences - all framed by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Perhaps you will be inspired to paint a canvas just as Lucien Powell did in this very spot many years ago.

Great get-a-way from home!
Lisa and Todd were very friendly and made staying at their cottage super easy. They have options for breakfast to be brought to your cottage, as well as chocolate fondue at night! We were able to bring our dog as well, that was a bonus. Many wineries and breweries around the location.

Anniversary Weekend Getaway
My wife and I stayed at the Powell Studio Cottage at Airwell Bed and Breakfast for our anniversary and we were beyond happy with our time there! Todd and Lisa are amazing hosts and they truly make you feel right at home. Great communication, answered any questions, wrote a very nice note for our anniversary, and made the check in/out process a breeze. The cottage was super clean and very nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable and the other accommodations in the home were perfect for the space. The property was very nice as well and even had a hot tub which was fantastic. To top it all off the breakfasts each morning were amazing. The weather was nice both mornings we were there so they were able to set up the breakfast outside on our patio. The food was delicious and perfectly portioned. The area was great as well with many wineries, and neat towns of Purcellville, Middleburg, and Leesburg. We would highly recommend Stone Tower Winery, Bluemont Vineyard, Knead Wine, and Magnolia at the Mill. Normally my wife and I don’t end up staying at the same place twice even if we really liked the place simply because we like trying new places. Well, Todd and Lisa and Airwell have changed that for us. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

We were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. Lisa and Todd made it very special and pay attention to the little details which made the stay even more enjoyable. There was a lot of things to do close by including hiking, brewery and winery’s and dining options. We would definitely go back again. They even provide great breakfast if you would like that option.

This property was amazing and so were Lisa and Todd! I travelled by myself for some time alone and relaxation. They gave me the space I needed but were always available if I needed anything. I felt very comfortable and safe during my stay. The cottage is super well kept and clean and the hot tub was amazing. I hope to return again.

Christmas in the Country
The house was cozy with a wood stove and everything else we could have needed. The breakfast we ordered was yummy. Next time we'll try out the hot tub! The location was perfect. Just a short drive to Middleburg where we spent a lot of time with family, shopping and dining. Looking forward to our next visit.

A perfect getaway
We were looking for a quiet getaway to celebrate our anniversary. We came across the cutest cottage that was just what we were looking for. Although, we were only there for 2 days the view of the mountains, fresh air and quiet surroundings made it a perfect place for rest and relaxation. The innkeeper's Todd and Lisa are wonderful hosts. They are friendly, easy to talk to and always made sure we had everything we needed! Even the little board on the fridge was personalized with our names to welcome us during our stay. They were helpful providing recommendations to local places and brought us 2 days of amazing gourmet breakfast. We also went to the Red Fox Inn for dinner the first evening which we had excellent food and drinks, enjoyed wine and pizza at the Otium Winery for lunch then picked up dinner at the Salamander Market for a quiet evening in to soak up our last evening at the cottage. Our stay was exactly what we needed - it left us feeling relaxed and wanting to stay longer. We hope we can stay at the cottage again in the near future. Highly recommend!

Celebrated our 25th anniversary here, cottage was well stocked, clean, and near everything! Hosts Lisa and Todd were great, breakfast was so good every morning, check in and out were a breeze. We will be back for sure.

We are Todd and Lisa Peterson, family of four , with two adult children. We both grew up in Michigan, but moved to northern VA 30 years ago when we first were married. We have both worked in the field of education for most of our adult lives, as a special education teacher and guidance counselor. Since our honeymoon, we always have had the dream to open up our own bed and breakfast, so in 2009 we bought Airwell. We began the long process of renovation and landscaping, most of which we have done ourselves. In 2015, we were thrilled to open the Airwell Bed and Breakfast, and truly enjoy creating a beautiful, memorable experience for our guests.

Why they chose this property

We absolutely love western Loudoun! Besides the beauty of the mountains ,scenic countryside, and horse farms, there is so much to see and do. We really enjoy the local wineries and breweries, which are all so unique. Hiking and biking are just minutes away, as we live very near the Appalachian Trail and the WO&D bike trail. Todd is a history buff, so he gets his fill of Civil War history at the battlefields and museums. When we want to experience the city, we are just 50 miles from Washington DC and the many sights and museums it has to offer. Come check us out, you will love it here too, I promise!

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with Airwell because of its historic charm and the beauty of the grounds. It is such a peaceful place to be. Powell's Studio has a wonderful stone patio surrounded with boxwoods for privacy. a tricking fountain, and views of the mountains. The inside is just downright cozy! A perfect place to unwind by the fire with a good book or DVD.
