About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Good location....dirty home

The house itself was fine and the location was good. However, it was not ready on time for check in and while they appear to do their regular daily cleaning, it wasn't thorough. The ceiling fan in the living room had years worth of gunk stuck to it, there was garbage and food behind d dressers and night tables indicating that they never look behind or vacuum there. The king size bedroom floor had a bunch of animal urine spots and a big black mark on it, the master bedroom with the two beds also had multiple urine spots, the master bath shower/tub backed up into my daughter's shower a ton of gunk, grime, and hair that was not hers. We notified the front desk at check out with pictures and she took note but we weren't convinced that she took us seriously. She mentioned that dust is normal. We are normally tent campers and I assure you that dust and dirt in general is not an issue for us. What was in this house was absolutely gross. As a side note, if you risk staying there we suggest you being your own can opener, as theirs is not operable.

Pretty cabin but not well maintained and suffers from lack of service

We stayed here for 4 nights and didnt have a good experience. When we arrived the Patio was extremely dirty. Ourdoor dinner table, chairs, ground and grill was not cleaned before our arrival so was pretty much unusable. But before you leave they expect you to clean up the kitchen and all trash so one wonders what the cleaning fee of 150 is for!! This area gets very hot in summer and there was no cooling in the cabin. There were only two tower fans which was not at all effective given how high the ceiling is. We suffered so much in the heat that we decided to leave a night before and made loss. We also faced water issues in the cabin and it took them an entire day to respond . Our change of sheet request was never fullfilled. It is also far from all yosemite main attractions so you end up driving 1.5-2 hrs before you can do any hike. The redwood office made me multiple calls to get the remainder of payment a week before when the payment term clearly stated that it is due only a days before checkin.Overall we didnt have a positive experience with this property and wouldnt recommend.

Will stay here every time we come back to Yosemite!

The property was exactly as described in the listing, except better. The cabin was very much a luxury cabin and very well stocked with all of the things you need for a long weekend or several weeks of vacation. Lots of pots and pans, coffee maker, toaster...everything you need for cooking. Plenty of fresh towels for you and all you guests. Also the property is located just a short walk away from the Market which has anything you may have forgotten to bring with you. This is a wonderful place to stay and we will definitely keep this place bookmarked so we can return again!

Great location. But needs a little TLC

The house is in the park so it has great location. No A/C so summer days can be hot. Nights are fine. Laundry facilities at main office. The beds are old and uncomfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and gas grill is great. The porch is great but too crowded with furniture. Overall the place is good but it easily could be great with a little TLC.
