About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Big disappointment. Do not stay there.

Just came back after 4 nights there. Very disappointed. The place is completely run down and not maintained. EXTREMELY DIRTY. Dust everywhere. We even saw a mouse in our master bedroom. Everyone in our party got allergies due to dust. Internet never worked. Beds are terrible, and it gets extremely hot, specially on the second floor. For how much they charge per night they could put a window AC in each room. Floor is so noisy you can't walk at night without waking every one up. Overall a really bad experience. For reference I normally tent camp and we are used to roughing it out, is not like we are used to staying in fancy hotels. I have traveled all over the world and this place compares to a cheap hostel somewhere in a poor town in South America.

Great location in Wawona with accessability to a small local grocery store and gas station. Not too far of a drive to hike in Yosemite Valley and Glacier Point.

Nice Location, slightly dated

The location was nice, at the end of a road with just cabins to the sides. The carpet was stained and the beds were pretty hard. It felt like we were on beds of straw. They didn’t supply paper towels or napkins, so bring some. With that being said, it was fine for what we needed. We weren’t there to sit in a cabin.

Uncomfortable Stay, But Nice Property Manager

The only reason I am giving 3 stars and not less is because the property managers are so responsive and nice, also the cabin is in a great location. However we will not stay in this cabin again, we would choose a different one in this same area. Beds were very uncomfortable for everyone and we had 9 in our party (there are 9 beds), so most of us did not sleep well. Also each time the heater turned on, everyone’s allergies flared up - and it was not coincidence (we had 3 families staying there). Management should look into changing the filter and possibly cleaning the air ducts. The WiFi does not work, however they offered to send someone for maintenance right away. Luckily we had a working hotspot someone brought. The proximity to trailhead, falls and Merced river in the neighborhood was excellent, and a 55 minute drive down into the Valley. There is a small market a minute down the street, which had everything we needed, even steaks! Overall the visit was ok since we were in beautiful Yosemite it was hard to complain.

A bit dated...

Pros: very clean, great location inside the park, awesome deck. Cons: pretty dated, stained carpets, a bit shabby overall. The biggest disappointment was the wife/internet kept cutting in and out. I spoke to maintenance and they said there was nothing to do about it. If you are trying to do distance learning with your kids or keep up with work it's impossible because there is no cell service there either.

No complaints

This property was very nice for a long weekend with family visiting Yosemite. It was clean and good location. It is dated but adequately stocked. It is really a2BR with a loft. Beds were very comfortable. Tv small and spotty internet. Wood fire place and grill worked well . About 45 min from valley floor. Check for road closures. We’d stay again , no major complaints. The Redwood company was responsive and had clear communications.

Great Cabin

In need of a COVID vacation, my family decided to go to Yosemite, and this cabin was perfect. We wanted a place inside the park so we would not have to deal with obtaining an entry permit (otherwise required due to the park's phased reopening). We have rented many cabins in the Big Bear & Mammoth areas, and this cabin ranks pretty high among them, with none of the "deal-breakers" we have experienced at other places. The cabin had plenty of room for two adults and three teenagers, though I could easily see two or three families using it (adults in the two bedrooms and what I believe was a pullout sofa downstairs and kids all in the loft). The third bedroom is actually a loft, but it was private/separate enough for the teens that claimed it. The kitchen was adequate to the task, clean and well-equipped. Note that there is no dishwasher, but there were supplies to get the job done by hand. The bathrooms had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The living room was spacious and the wrap-around deck was large with plenty of seating. The grill was well-maintained and we used it a few times to cook dinner. The bedrooms also have access to another, smaller deck, which was nice to sit quietly and read. Can't comment on the TV since we were too busy enjoying the forest and pretty much ignored it. WiFi was great to have (though a little spotty at times, but that was to be expected given the location). It was extremely hot when we were there, so we were thankful for the ceiling fans and the floor fans in the loft and one of the bedrooms (one was not working when we got there, but management was quick to provide a replacement). Management also provided extra towels when we realized we needed them. They were also very helpful in giving us tips on where to cool off in the river (one spot was within walking distance of the cabin). Note that the cabin does not have a washer/dryer and the community laundry was closed due to COVID. All in all we really liked this cabin and would stay here again. It was in a very quiet location near the end of the road. I loved sitting outside on the deck in the morning with my coffee, listening to the birds and enjoying the serenity of the forest.
