A fantastic get away with top notch hosts
This place is absolutely gorgeous. Well maintained with everything you could need or want. The location is perfect, peaceful and secluded but close enough to Maggie valley to easy go into town. The host were some of the best that I’ve experienced, very thoughtful. We went for Christmas and they even setup a Christmas tree for us to put our gifts under. They obviously care about the property and want their guests to have a great time. All around, highly recommend.

Best Cabin Near Cataloochee Valley!
We were looking for a comfortable place to stay near Cataloochee Valley, Great Smokies. There is a long dirt road to travel in order to get access that side of the National Park. When we realized this cabin is right on the road into the park we got interested and booked. Now, having enjoyed three nights there, we will definitely be coming back! The location is amazing both to explore the valley in the Smokies and the Waynesville area. Hiking in the area is amazing! Cabin is super comfortable and well appointed. Great layout, fireplace, hot tub. Our hosts were very helpful, sending along hiking ideas, maps, etc. In the area - the Mid October tree colors were beyond beautiful, the elk were abundant, the crowds were minimal. Pretty much heaven. Highly recommend this property. We are already exploring dates to come back to catch the spring wildflowers!

Rude owner
On the first night the owner, (which lives next door) came to the property and cussed (F word) and yelled at the first person she seen, all because someone was parked in the grass, which there were no signs saying they couldn’t, and because we had 2 extra people who were family, it was a last min choice for them to come, and there was an extra bed since the cabin slept 8, so there was room for them. We offered to pay the owner for the extra 2 people. She assumed we were going to party and cause destruction like the past people did, We had 2 young kids with us that witnessed this lady cussing at everyone, and she mentioned she had forgotten to bring her gun with her, and once she left we felt very uncomfortable and felt like we were being watched.

Incredible stay in ideal location
We've stayed in several mountain cabins over the years and this is by far the most organized and well equipped yet. Close to Cataloochee Valley for wildlife photography in a tranquil setting not far from town. Landscaping and cabin well maintained. We would definitely return!

Beautiful House
Beautiful location, very clean house and easy to get to. Check in and communication with owners was perfect. Power went out for a few hours (accident brought down power lines), and house stayed cool even with no AC. We throughly enjoyed our stay.

Extra mile
My family and I truly enjoyed the cabin and property. The owners went above and beyond to make are stay enjoyable. Our 10 year old son loved "panning for gold" in the creak directly infront of the house. The owners provided fool's gold for us to put in the creek for him and even let him keep all the pieces he found. The extra touches made the stay even more special.

This cabin is a gem!
Our family throughly enjoyed staying at this charming cabin outside of Waynesville and near Maggie Valley. From booking the cabin to our actual stay, Catherine was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had. She graciously left a few little surprises that our children loved and made our stay extra special. The girls had a great time panning for gold in the creek. This cabin was PERFECT for our family summer vacation. We hope to come back soon!!

The property and setting was fabulous. The snow started upon our arrival and continued all night. 5 inches by morning. The cabin was absolutely perfect. The kitchen contained everything we could have wanted to use to cook for a large family. Will definitely go back!

Wonderful Stay!
Our family had a wonderful stay at this property the week after Christmas. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us, the cabin was spotless and well stocked, and George & Catherine are incredible hosts. The creek beside the cabin and the trail provided much fun to the kids and our lab! Hearing the creek was so peaceful - wish we could have enjoyed it with a cup of coffee on the bridge, it was just way too cold for that this time! On that note, the hot tub was very clean and we enjoyed warming up there! The location is fantastic - away enough to be secluded but easy access to grocery stores, etc. George and Catherine were extremely communicative and really went above and beyond to help us out! We will definitely return!

Excellent cabin on a beautiful creek with Elk roaming.
Elk Falls is a super nice and beautiful cabin. It is arranged to be spacious and relaxing. The cabin was equipped with everything you could possible ask for. Outside was amazing with room for your fur babies to explore and play. Listening to the creek was outstanding. Bridge over the creek made it very special place to sit and just listen. Gas fireplace was needed when temp hit 3 degrees. The hosts were attentive to your needs and baked Christmas cookies which were delicious. Thanks to George and Catherine for taking such good care of us. Definitely would return.

Spectacular Cabin In The Smokies
We just spent a week at this property. Checking in was very easy and the house was extremely clean. Everything worked in the house and the kitchen was fully stocked. The location is very private and secluded but also located close to anywhere you would want to go. The surrounding area is beautiful with the creek running through it. We saw a lot of Elk wandering around. I higly recommend this beautiful cabin in the woods to anyone looking to get away. Thank you for having us.

A gem in the Smokey Mountains
Great listing, great location! Easy to communicate with the property owners. The cabin was spotless and beautiful. The outside was private and just a special place. Cool little stream in front of the cabin that our dog just loved. Close to the Smokey Mountain National Park. Close to a couple quaint little towns. A perfect place for a getaway!

Great location, not far from Asheville and all the great hiking trails this area has to offer. Don’t forget to take a walk around the property to see some of the flowers that have been planted! The house/property was amazing and very comfortable. The owners were beyond accommodating and super nice. We stayed for 3 weeks and everything went very smooth. The internet worked perfectly for working remotely. Our cell phones didn't work the best, but the internet made up for that. The house was fully stocked and the hot tub was great. Amazing Mountain Escape!
This property is located in such a serene spot back in the woods on the mountain. The creek outside is very calming. My kids (ages 14, 12, and 8) loved playing in the creek and looking for salamanders! The drive up and down the mountain only takes about 5 minutes and everything you'd want to go do and see is fairly close. Our family loves the Maggie Valley Rock & Gem shop and visiting Waterrock Knob. It rained for at least a little bit every day that we were there, but the large covered porch allowed us to still enjoy time outdoors despite the rain. The cabin itself was very clean and welcoming. There was more than enough room for our family of 5 plus our two dogs. Communication with Catherine (one of the owners) was perfect - she is very responsive and provides great suggestions to make your stay the best it can be!

Maggie Valley Property
The cabin was perfect for my wife and I and my son’s family that included his wife, 3 YO and 6 MO children. The bedrooms are spacious and well appointed. The master bedroom on the first floor and the 2nd story bedrooms and bath allowed sufficient privacy for us and our son’s family. The kitchen was well stocked and provided ample space for preparing and eating dinner. The outdoor grill requires charcoal. There is a large front poor with a hot tub, rocking chairs, and tables that overlook a beautiful little stream and well landscaped gardens. There is no immediate area from which you can take a walk from the house due to the slope of the land. It is located on the access road to the National Park and trails. We had our dog and she loved it. It is a great place to stay.

About the host

Hosted by Catherine A Johnson

Host profile image
Enjoy sharing this unusual property and setting. Its our joy to have guests relax and take in the creek quieting sounds with privacy.. Like most hosts, we want everyone to have fun and create fond memories without the hassles.

Why they chose this property

The creek and forest setting makes for quiet, restful times. The kitchen is supplied for easy or creative cooking with seating (6 at dining table/4 on counter) the counter provides area for those who want/wish to "supervise". The outdoor deck has plenty of space for eating meals, sitting or rocking, hot tub soak and, of course, the sounds of the creek.

Note that access to the property is a flat gravel drive, no special vehicle is required. Ground around creek is also flat so a simple stroll should be had by all.

Road leads to entry of Cataloochee Valley should hiking, fishing, history and wildlife be of interest.

We strive for the best in cleaning practices. Thus, we do not do "back to back" rental which allows time to clean thoroughly and "wiggle" room.

What makes this property unique

The setting is simply beautiful with walking/sitting bridge on the creek, planted & maintained flower gardens surrounded by forested areas; suited for magical times.

Very private yet close to I-40 for easy access to the mountain experiences. Twenty miles from Tennessee border.
