Charlie was great to work with, he was very friendly and accommodating. He made sure we had everything we needed and even let me know about a potential WiFi outage in the area. We loved seeing the goats and horses everyday. Looking forward to staying again!
This was our 3rd time staying here for our ski trips to Whitetail. The kids love the animals and the house is cozy. Charles is always communicative and responds quickly for any minor issues. I’m sure we’ll be back again next year!
Perfect for whitetail getaway, farm lovers in a small town.
First, Charlie was a great host. He’s very communicative and will go out of his way to make you feel welcome.Second, the home itself is an old farm. Literally. It’s old and has that comfortable feel of a settled mountain ranch. It cozy. Third, the animals on the ranch are a bonus. Horses, goats, chickens. They’re all there. They’re friendly and the property is serene. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Will absolutely go back when I’m in the area.
Family met here again this year for our fall family reunion.
Grandchild loves the goats and horses, we love the quiet and beautiful views and relaxed environment.
Will be back next fall!
Thanks to Charlie - a great host.
Our visiting friends and my family all enjoyed the Cool Hollow experience. I don't think you can top a vacation that included like 8 goats being born during for over 20 frolicking little furry kids! We appreciated Charlie's friendliness allowing us to be involved with the animals. Aside from the babies, Batman the Billy Goat stole the show and has been in most of the guests' memory sharing stories. I love Clydesdales and seeing one outside the window every day was a treat. My kids enjoyed the bookshelves' options as well.
My family comes back as often as we can. The animals are magical, the farmhouse is clean and comfortable, and the hosts are the best. Great location if you want to to other things but we just stay on the farm to soak up as much time with the animals as we can. I can't think of a better vacation for kids and families.
This farm house located by the Blue Ridge Mts had horses, sheep, goats & chickens. Location is good.
The property owner was very personable. He kept asking if we needed anything. He let the kid pet the animals & there was a swing & slide set for them to play on.
We were an hour or so from Hershey PA, Gettysburg & 1.5 hours from the NW metro link to DC, named Shady Grove.
We got firewood from a neighbor selling it & had a fire for two nights. One downfall for me only was the bathroom located on the first floor. All 3 bedrooms and a TV room were upstairs. Advice: get tickets to DC Zoo, Hershey’s, several DC museums & Gettysburg at least a month in advance.
If we ever get to this area again, we will look up Charlie Rockell’s farm house again.
This house felt like home for the whole duration of our stay. There was a baby gate, everything was clean and tidy. Plenty of space for everyone and the farm was just peaceful. Sunrise on the back porch and sunset on the front. Mr.Charlie was kind and very easy to communicate with. He even let the goats out while we were there. The kids loved it! I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a relaxing trip.
This was our second stay at this property and we loved it as much as the first time. Great communication from the host, loved the animals and views. It was ann easy drive to Whitetail for skiing and snow tubing. Our kids have asked to make this trip a yearly tradition, so I’m sure we’ll be back soon!
my family and I had a blast staying at this property. the property was great for my family and my children loved it and we cannot wait for our next rental there.
We booked this house for a long weekend getaway and hopefully some skiing at nearby Whitetail. The skiing didn't cooperate too much as the mountain didn't have much snow, but the getaway was still very nice. We found the home as listed and clean. Charlie was very open with communication while we were there and we loved visiting with the goats and sheep.
If I had a negative, it's that the tap water wasn't drinkable for us. It had a very strong metallic taste, but we quickly remedied that with bottled water. Otherwise everything went great. The beds were very comfortable and the house was lovely! Would definitely stay here again if we return!
We stayed here so that we could have a place to stay and keep our dog during the day while we went skiing at Whitetail, about a 10-15 min drive from the house. The host communicated the check in information early and clearly, and there were no issues with our stay. We enjoyed the wood stove on our first night, said hello to the many animals that live on the farm, and did not want for anything else! Would definitely come back again sometime.
Sweet little house on a FARM! Animals galore and so friendly. Charlie was a great host and my daughter was able to feed and let the animals with him each day. Beautiful view from the kitchen. Very peaceful.
We selected this property because it was near family in Greencastle. Much to our delight it was perfectly located and came with such beauty. The front porch faces west, which allowed for some very beautiful sunsets over the mountains. The interior of the country house is quite comfy, but also has great internet for work requirements -- and access to all our favorite TV desires.
The absolutely best feature is the farm! The goats and horses are such fun, especially for us city folk! Our 2 yo grandson as well as all the adults were just enamored with them. Charlie comes to feed and care for them and is very personable.
We are already making plans for our return next spring!
And now I understand the obsession over goats and would love to have a couple of my own!
Bed was super-comfy and there is plenty of room for a family to spread our. Just note that. like most older homes, there is one bathroom (on the main floor) and bedrooms are upstairs. Also take your own water with you if you are averse to strong iron taste/smell.
Views are beautiful, host is incredibly kind and accommodating. Enjoyed sharing conversation and his animals with us. Was glad we had our older vehicle with us because goats love to climb and they’re so adorable they’re pretty impossible to get upset with.
We had a great stay. The area is beautiful. The house was perfect for us to spread out some and be comfortable. Our kids absolutely loved the animals and being able to interact with them. Charles was great about communicating and letting the kids tag along with him when he came to feed the animals. We’re hoping to go back and stay again sometime.
Charlie was a great host! We appreciated his time chatting with us about the area and his animals. The house was clean and stocked with supplies for our morning coffee. We'll be back the next time we're in town.
