About the host
Hosted by Brian Hanna
Even in the early 1980s we were an unusual couple. As junior academic pediatricians in Canada there was little time or money for children let alone world travel. We sought out time share resorts with the best facilities and lowest price. Yes, we actually went shopping for time share, and for many years we traveled the world through II and RCI. Then, on one of our shopping tours for a new resort we walked into the lobby on the Grande Mayan in St Jose del Cabo. I can still feel the goose bumps and awe from that initial experience with those magnificent statues. I am certain that Mayan Sales were as shocked to find a Canadian scrap dealer’s daughter asking to buy, but at her price. So started our investment in what is now our second home. As we have become more refined in our tastes, more demanding in our older age, Vidanta has grown and changed with us. We retired from our academic careers just last year, but work and health issues had taken our double black diamond ski legs and it was time to enter Retirement Boot Camp – at Vidanta. For three glorious months, 6 mornings a week, we learned to play golf with the nicest, most patient Pro on this green earth. We ate well, cooking often but sampling the restaurants with both old and new friends. We spent every afternoon in the Spatium Gym, slowly regaining our tone and strength and we ended every day swimming for hours in the Grande Luxxe pool.
Why they chose this property
When we step on the wooden walkways surrounded by the smells an sounds of the jungle, we are home. Yes we love Philadelphia, its culture, its parks and trails, but here we are home too. We love that we can ask our friends to join us, in crowds big or small. Vidanta is more than wonderful rooms, gardens and facilities. This would not be enough. We meet and make friends with so many interesting people, and the Vidanta staff are amazing. So, for as long as we can traverse the wooden walkways and wallow in our deck pool, we will call Vidanta home.
What makes this property unique
As travelers of the world we have become quite security savvy. I cannot stress enough the exclusive nature of this resort and this specific part of this resort. If you want piece and quiet, if you need anonymity then this is the suite for you. If you don't want to cook or go to one of the 18 restaurants, then just ask the executive chef to come and cook for you.
