The pictures are the opposite of what you get
We travel regularly and apparently we have been very lucky as this is our first bad experience. I have never had to write a bad review and so this is awkward and very unfortunate. Rental ownership is tough and so we are very empathetic and try to be understanding but this was a disaster. The apartment is simply not what the pictures show. The pictures listed on VRBO are not what you get. When you first walk in, there is no flooring - it's as if the beautiful hardwoods in the picture were ripped up and dirty, rough concrete at best was left. The big flowing blinds in the master in the pictures...one half were laying on the couch when we got there. The craftsmanship all over the house looks like they ran out of money and brought in family members to try and do their best to finish things up. We had to all just stop looking at the paint job. It is so bad. I've never noticed paint at any other rental...this was just unbelievable. We were there over New Years and obviously nothing we could do about it so we made the best of it but I literally could not believe it. Clearly the owners have never stayed there. Or worse, they have and don't care. Each bathroom has 2 towels only and there are no spares. My first shower I put the towel next to the shower on the bath tub ledge and the water leaks big time from the wall between the shower and bathtub so my towel was saturated. Found out the hard way there were no other towels. It is just missing the most basic of necessities. No hair dryers, no toaster, no spatulas, no paper towels...the powder room has a sink and a toilet - you can't wash your hands...no hand towel holder, no hand towel! There was not one chair to sit outside and enjoy the glorious view. No housekeeping service. It's as if someone had an epic idea for this incredible rental and started off strong (gorgeous Restoration Hardware white couch) and beautiful brick around what was probably going to be a fireplace...but then it's as if they just ran out of money and stopped doing anything. We were beside ourselves...I didn't know people would list something like this and use false photos. If you consider renting...make them do a live facebook walk-through before you give them a penny. It is simply not what the pictures show. We've only vrbo'd a few times...and this has taught me a very valuable lesson. That being said, we loved both Placencia and Ambergyis Caye. Be sure to find Secret Beach and get out to Caye Caulkner!
