About this property

Port Sanilac Log Cabin--Incredibly Cute!

Warm, cozy, and charming 2 bedroom (plus loft), 1 bath genuine 100+ year old authentic log cabin! Sleeps 6 in beds and 2 more on a queen sofa pull-out couch.

Unplug and enjoy getting away! Just a short 3 minute walk to the fantastic Lake Huron beach. Situated off the beaten path, on a gravel road surrounded by pine trees with a grassy side yard for outdoor play. Just located 1 ½ hour drive from metro Detroit in the beautiful “Thumb”, this is the up north escape you've been looking for, minus the 4+ hour drive up I-75. Here’s your chance to unplug and enjoy. This log cabin, a throwback to simpler times but with some creature comforts, will allow you to unplug from cable and WiFi and enjoy the simpler things a vacation has to offer. No, there is no WiFi or cable TV at the cabin! Lake Huron, games, puzzles, books, toys, and much more are there to help you relax and reconnect with your family.

Situated just a short walk (5 driveways) on a gravel road to the incredible Lake Huron "Gold Coast" sandy beach and park. Walk into the front door of this 800 square foot cabin from the 9x21 foot front deck and you'll instantly feel relaxed and content with its hardwood floors, knotty pine walls, log beam ceilings and charming atmosphere. The 12 x 14 living room features 2 couches (one is a queen-sized sleeper sofa), a ceiling fan. This is an authentic log cabin and as such, there is no central heating or central air conditioning. There is a newer gas log fireplace that keeps this cabin warm and cozy on chilly nights; and 2 ceiling fans, several tower fans, and a window air conditioner to keep you cool in the summer.

The well-appointed kitchen features an electric cooktop, sink, beautiful custom wood cabinets, fully stocked with pots/pans, flatware, dishes, glasses; small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster, waffle iron, crockpot, skillet, toaster oven, hand mixer, and blender. The dinette is surrounded by windows overlooking the beautiful pine trees. There are 2 bedrooms and a sleeping loft, with blankets, sheets and pillows. The main bedroom has a queen-sized bed with two night stands and a supplemental heater, just in case; the second bedroom has 2 bunk beds. The loft is accessible by a wooden ladder and has a queen-sized mattress. Because of the low head room and the ladder access, this area is perfect for adventurous kids. The sofa in the living room pulls out to a queen-sized bed. The bathroom (toilet and sink) is separate from the shower/dressing room and storage.

The log shed on the property stores stack chairs, 2 bicycles and a tandem bike (and a hand air pump in case the tires need air) , beach toys, and a wagon for your convenience to take toys to the beach, plus additional storage. A 6 x 10 deck is on the north side of the cabin, ideal for reading a book and hearing the whispering of the wind in the pine trees and waves of the mighty Lake Huron. Other amenities: 5 minute walk to Willis Market (grocery store); Port Sanilac shopping, marina, and restaurants are a short distance away; city water, ceiling fans in the living area and bedroom. There is an outdoor shower off the back porch to rinse the sand off after a day of playing at the beach or outside. The living room features a flat screen TV with Blu-ray DVD player, the main bedroom has a flat screen as well. Please note: there is no cable/satellite TV, internet/WiFi at the cabin. Cellular coverage will vary by provider.

The log cabin is an ideal get away for a couple or a family for a long weekend or a longer vacation.

***We wish you a fantastic time "unplugged" and enjoying all that the Thumb area and Lake Huron has to offer. Please be advised that for the 2024 season, we will be continuing to take additional precautions and cleaning protocols to make every effort to provide a safe environment for you and your family.*** We work very hard to keep our log cabin nice. Please respect our property and treat it as if it is your own.

Adorable getaway
My family had a great stay at this cute cabin. It’s cozy but that was nice. My kids are 7 and 4. The 4 year old slept on the bottom bunk, the 7 year old in the loft. The top bunk doesn’t have a guard rail so probably best for older kids who don’t flop much! I had been worried about just one unit AC in the back room being available but with the windows open the breeze really gets the cabin cool . We hardly needed it (and I get hot easy so I was surprised). We walked to the nearby beach every day and also took the short drive to Lexington for their beach and a longer drive up the coast to the “Tip of the Thumb” at Port Crescent State Park, which has a really lovely and large beach. The lake is just gorgeous, and the water clear (and cold!) and low to no waves, perfect for littles. I would recommend water shoes as some of the beaches are pebbly. My kids enjoyed running around the outside of the cabin as well. They didn’t want to leave! We got to spend some nice time as a family and evenings reading since cell service was spotty and there was no streaming, which was honestly one of the reasons we chose it!

Wedding Visit
Great cabin. A true cabin experience just like when I was a kid spending summers on he Great Lakes. Not on the beach unfortunately but great place. Might not be for everybody but awesome fir sitting around the fire, playing board games and in our case, very near to our wedding venue. No wifi so not good if you need to work but great if you want to tune out.

Cool cabin!
Unique cabin. Nice and cozy. I will say the ladder to the loft going right over the door to the bedrooms makes for an interesting situation, but we made it work.

We really enjoyed staying at the cabin. It's close proximity to the Lake and downtown Port Sanilac was convenient. The cabin itself brought back many childhood memories.

Cozy cabin getaway
This cabin has a lot of charm and was well stocked with many towels, dishes, DVDs, etc. Check in was easy. It is smaller than it looks in the picture but still had a lot of space and was comfortable for our family of four. I can see us coming back. The closest public beach area is quite small, and we preferred the main beach in Port Sanilac by the boat launch, but even that is not too far away.

We loved everything about them log cabin. It is a special beautiful slice of heaven. Cozy and comfortable. Love the lake being so close and the sandy beach, even a big storm didn’t keep us from enjoying the gorgeous lake. We will be back most definitely!

Cute, quaint, cozy cabin
We enjoyed our stay! Read the welcome emails carefully, they are full of lots of important details. Cool (almost hidden) loft that the kids loved. It’s hot up there in the summer, but the fan helps. First toilet flush, you have to push the flusher down pretty hard to overcome the suction, but it works. Be sure to turn the hot water switch on as soon as you arrive as it takes awhile to heat up and work. Back bedroom nice and cool with fan. Fun games and cards to play. Kitchen area is small but well stocked. Even has a griddle and waffle maker, so bring some mix! Quirky locks on some of the doors, made me feel nervous about getting stuck in rooms. Nickie was AMAZING with communication and checked on us often via text. Beach nearby within walking distance has some nostalgic playground equipment. Overall, a great stay. Kids want to come back! Thanks Michael & Nickie!

Great stay!
We wanted a cozy simple home and that’s what we experienced, seamless and as expected. The back room has the air conditioning, so it takes a while to adjust temp in house, but it eventually does. Also it may require ear plugs for those people who sleep in that room😉 Deck was perfect for visiting etc…would stay again!

We loved the little cabin, it was perfect for all of us and cute! Had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend! We did have an issue with the toilet the first night but we called them and they had someone out to fix it right away! It's also close to town so we got to enjoy the food at Stone Lodge and a few drinks at Alli's.

Great long weekend with young kids!
We stayed here with a four-year-old, a two-year-old and our dog. The place was great. It had everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is a rather small cabin, but it turned out to be just enough room. We would definitely come back.

Port Sanilac Cabin Oct 16-21 2022
The cabin was cozy and well laid out overall. The kitchen is small, but surprisingly easy to use. A big storm came in on our arrival, and we had four days of wet, cold, and windy weather. The gas fire worked great, and kept the living room nice and warm. We watched a lot of movies on DVD, read books, played games, napped, made meals, and went out for short excursions. The longest of these was a drive up to Port Crescent State Park, which was a beautiful walk in the woods with the fall trees in full color. We repaired the tandem bike and took a ride around the neighborhood on the last day, dodging puddles and deep sand. Overall a relaxing and fun visit, despite the unrelentingly stormy weather. Access to the beach near the cabin was very limited due to private access restrictions. Fine for swimming in summer at the public beach, but not so great for walking along the shore. The electrical system in the cabin is a bit dodgy, and we blew a 20-amp breaker when we plugged the bedroom space heater into the bedroom outlet that's on the same circuit as the water heater. Easily resolved, however, by using the corner outlets in the bedroom on another circuit, and no problems after that. Better instructions about what outlets to use would have avoided this problem altogether. No full sized oven, but the toaster oven worked surprisingly well for baking biscuits and snacks. So four out of five overall, but we had a comfortable and relaxing time. Recommended for people needing some down time away from the internet and cell service to reconnect with family and friends.

Fantastic Girl’s’ Getaway
Stayed here for a long weekend getaway with my mom and sis. We LOVED the cute rustic log cabin!! The owners have thought of soooo many little details that added a nice touch to our stay, They responded to communication immediately & included some very helpful tips on places to see and do. There is a nice variety of DVDs, books, plenty of extra linens if needed, the bicycles are available but we didn’t use them, the wagon and beach toys and chairs for families is a nice touch as well. The BEST part was the gas fireplace that heated the cabin well as it was in the 30s and 40s at night, & creates a cozy setting. My only suggestion is to consider adding a little more outdoor lighting especially for when guests arrive after dark. Overall we had a fantastic time and we are already considering returning during the summer to enjoy the lake!! I would HIGHLY recommend this cabin for anyone who wants to get away to relax in a cozy rustic setting!!! THANK YOU!!!

About the host

Host profile image
Your hosts have been weekending and vacationing in the Thumb area for many years and currently own a home several miles north of the cabin.

Why they chose this property

The "sunrise coast" of Michigan has that "up north" feel and is far enough away from the metro Detroit area without the long drive and traffic of most "up north" Michigan destinations. Walk the sandy beach looking for petoskey stones and beach glass, skip stones, paddle, and swim in the blue water or go fishing. Shopping, golf, museums, farmers market, theatre, restaurants, wineries and area attractions are near by.

What makes this property unique

This genuine 100 year log cabin is well maintained and has the amenities so you can relax in comfort and enjoy the lake breezes whispering through the mature pine trees on the property. It is warm and welcoming from the moment you pull up and enter the cabin. And it's incredibly cute!!
