About this property
Grass Valley Treehouse Retreat near the Yuba River
Welcome to the Treehouse—a retreat nestled away on a 1.5 acre hillside with a creek and panorama of towering oaks and California pines. Downtown Grass Valley & Nevada City are minutes away; and it's conveniently located on the Sierra Vintners Wine Trail. I fell in love with this house the moment I walked through the door and I hope you will too. I curated each corner for guests to relax and take in the natural beauty of the woods. It's the perfect escape for couples & small groups of friends.
The space:
Floor to ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings, clerestory windows and skylights all maximize the views of the woods, creating an open and airy space, and a peaceful getaway from the city. I furnished the common spaces and bedrooms with comfy, mid-century designs to complement the natural backdrop of the trees. The living room features a wood-burning stove, record player and wireless Nebula projector (just sign into your Netflix, Amazon Prime or Youtube accounts and project your favorite movie against any wall in the house).
Fall asleep to the sound of silence and wake up amongst the trees. The master bedroom features vaulted ceilings, treetop views, a queen bed (on the firmer side), a plant named Susie, and a spacious walk-in closet and ensuite full bathroom. The loft bedroom also has a full bathroom, queen bed (medium pillowtop) and it overlooks the common areas as well as the treeline. The sunroom sleeps two more people with a pull out king daybed.
The deck wraps around the house and this is where I find myself most often. The east side has a couple of chaise lounges and an outdoor dining table under the oak trees; while the west side has a cute sitting area perfect for morning coffee, curling up with a book and blanket, evening cocktails and stargazing. Throughout the day, as the light and temperature changes, you’ll be able to find shade or sun depending on your preference.

About the host
Hosted by Tadhg
Hi! I’m Tadhg (pronounced like “tiger” without the “er”) — originally from Ireland but have lived in San Francisco for several decades. I’ve dreamed of this house my whole life and in 2018 I finally found it. I fell in love the moment I walked through the front door and saw the trees before me. I trained as an architect and design has always been important to me. I’ve chosen each piece of furniture and each item in the house for both style and comfort.
I opened up my home to guests in 2019 so that others could come stay and bask in the serenity. 100s have passed though with many Guests returning through the years which has been such a joy.

Why they chose this property
At the Treehouse you get the best of both worlds — a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by gorgeous nature while also being just a few minutes drive from Downtown Grass Valley & Nevada City. Walking and hiking trails in the area are in abundance and one of my favorite swimming holes on the Yuba River is only about 20 minutes away. The Treehouse is located on the Sierra Vintners Wine Trail with plenty of local vinyards to visit.
What makes this property unique
I think the most important element of the space speaks for itself — the trees. Enjoy them. They are why this house is here and why guests find themselves returning to visit again and again. I could watch the sunlight through the trees all day — it’s meditative, therapeutic and simply magical.
