We stayed 4 weeks, and never tired of the views, whether it was sunny, foggy, or teeming rain. The LR and Master BR are so comfortable! Cable TV and internet service are very good. King bed was perfect. Plenty of clothing storage in dresser and closet. Loved the loft and the porch rocking chairs on rainy days. Kitchen: Excellent knives and essential pots and pans; dishes, mugs, glasses, and flatware for 6 people. Things I most appreciated: tea pot, blender, choice of Keurig or regular coffee maker, big asst. of spices (no need to bring your own) Ice maker was off and empty when we arrived (COVID protocols, perhaps?) so bring a bag of ice. There was a glass cutting board; plenty of dishwasher and laundry detergent. Towels are NOT provided for use w/hot tub. Yes, we were told to bring our own the day before check-in, but we were already on our way to NC, so we had to buy some. We also recommend you bring:
Bathmat - not provided; as other renter noted, tub gets VERY slippery, espec. when rinsing off soap or conditioner;
extra dish towels (only one provided; left a couple of cheap ones); wood or plastic cutting board, if you prefer to glass; garbage bags, 13 gal and 4 gal (2 of each provided); if staying awhile, things like bathroom cleaner, Windex. (A small amount of Comet was only cleaner available). The house has five sets of towels (each set: one bath and hand towel, wash cloth). For two, this is ok. For those who use a separate towel for hair, maybe bring along extra bath towels according to your need.
A special word on wildlife - after all, it's why we come to the mountains, right? We saw deer, elk, gophers, wild turkeys, mostly off the property. But be Bear-Aware here. We saw bears or signs of their presence on many occasions, by this home and others nearby. We have photos of a bear ripping the garbage out of our pail, a cub walking in the driveway, and of paw prints from the bear my husband watched walk across the deck c. 7:45 AM. Do: Bring garbage to the dump. It's easy and better than cleaning up garbage w/ only a broom. But do come here! It is quiet, peaceful. The fire pit is the best we ever used. Nothing was more beautiful than fog rolling past the mountains. Best places for easy walk: Oconaluftee River Trail and Lake Junaluska. Tourism Office said "everything is 30 min. away." But enjoy "car hiking" throughout the region. It is amazing. And this home is a fabulous base to start from.
