Absolutely beautiful place to stay

This absolutely stunning place was the perfect hideaway for me when I needed some R&R earlier this year. The set out is fabulous as it has many different levels and nooks and crannies to hide away in, with some spectacular views. Tony & Gillian were amazing hosts - very warm and welcoming, and they went out of their way to make me feel at home. Combined with the beauty of the surrounding area I have been won over completely. The only thing I would change is to stay longer next time!

Just perfect!

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely gite. It matched our expectations after reading the description, which was accurate. The gite is full of character, very clean, well maintained and comfortable with contemporary furnishings. We particularly enjoyed eating all our meals (and drinking wine!) on the covered terrace. The location is quiet, with stunning views and many local walks round the village and surrounding countryside. We had a really fun day canoeing on the Ceze river and particularly enjoyed visiting Barjac. The owners, Tony and Gillian were very welcoming and helpful with their local knowledge and tips. Overall it is ideal accommodation for a relaxed and stress free holiday with lots of opportunities to explore the beautiful surrounding area. We will recommend this property to our friends and we will certainly return ourselves!

Perfect stop-off on our eurotrip

We had a wonderful stay at this property as part of a longer eurotrip over the summer. Tony and Gillian were very accommodating hosts and on hand as and when we needed but we still felt like we had our own private space to come and go as we pleased. The property looked newly refurbished but was still homely and had a rustic feel. There was plenty of space and all the necessary amenities. Lots of different spaces to enjoy as well including a private balcony, a veranda and a terrace all with stunning views. Lots to explore in the surrounding area, including a communal swimming pool and a river perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Gillian kindly took us for a walk up to the top of the village which provided so more stunning views! Although we didn't do much more physical activity than table tennis (in the courtyard of the property) there was the option to canoe in a nearby area or go for nice bike rides. Only complaint would be that we didn't stay longer - lots more to explore (would highly recommend going to nearby town Barjac) and definitely would want to stay again!

Fabulous location

We had a lovely welcome from Tony on our arrival and it was fantastic to walk in to the living area on the ground floor of the property, which was lovely and cool after a long, hot journey. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable and we had everything we needed for our 3 week stay. More importantly, the outdoor spaces were wonderful. A table outside the front entrance with a parasol for morning breakfast, a table on the first floor very cool veranda for lunch and a beautiful gazebo on one of the terraces above the property for late afternoon and evening. There was also a small balcony leading off the first floor bedroom where we spent a little time as well. Gillian and Tony were very welcoming and helpful and went over and above the call of duty to ensure we were able to watch at least some of the Summer Olympics! The location is fantastic as a base for exploring the local area and further afield. We fell in love with Barjac, a short drive away, and returned several times. We particularly enjoyed the Friday market and a restaurant called Nature & Thé. We also loved Lussan, a beautiful medieval village, and Uzès with its central square and medieval herbal garden. Pont du Gard is a must, as is Avignon. We also went further afield and spent a night in Carcassonne, which although it was very busy was still worth it. We also drove to Florac where the Information Centre for the Cévennes is based. We got lots of information about walks to do in the area and spent a lovely day in Florac, which is a very pretty little town. We enjoyed lunch at Au Pécher Mignon in the centre of the town. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and would love to return to the region as we certainly didn’t see everything there is to see, and we would definitely stay at this property again.

The perfect getaway

A 7 night stay at Capricorne Gite was simply not long enough! A stunning place with magnificent views ( especially from the terrace, with a glass of wine)! The hosts Tony and Gillian were fantastic and we couldn't have asked for anything more. The property itself was very clean and cared for. The rooms were newly furnished but still had that rustic charm that we were hoping for. The surrounding area is perfect for bike riding and walking, and there is a lovely river close by for swimming or sunbathing. We also took a great trip down to the The Ardeche, not far from the property, for a day on the canoe! We had a Wonderful holiday and are looking forward to going back again soon!

France has always been our favourite holiday destination,so when the opportunity arose to move here permanently...we took it.

Why they chose this property

As avid readers we were enchanted by the Robert Louis Stevenson's account of his travels in the Cevennes. We decided to check out the area ourselves and were not disappointed.
Discovering this property was a our good fortune and voila...here we are!

What makes this property unique

The gite is ideally situated for many activities. It is straightforward to reach towns and cities such as Avignon or Nimes.Situated between the towns St Ambroix and Barjac, you can find most amenities; supermarkets, pharmacy, park for the children, Domaine. Added to this there are of course market days and various restaurants to choose from including our very own Nepenthe.
Closer to home, it is a short walk to the river through poppy strewn fields in the spring. The river has various 'beach' areas where you can enjoy a refreshing swim, a picnic or watch the world go by.
The gite was built in the 1700's from local stone so is naturally cool in the hot Summer months providing respite, should you need it, from the glorious sunshine.
