This Chalet is located just 5 miles from both Seven Springs Mountain Resort and Hidden Valley Ski Areas. Why stay in a stuffy condo when you could experience a real-life mountain log cabin stay while visiting any of the area's attractions. Enjoy clean, crisp mountain air, spacious cabins secluded away from the hustle and bustle of the mountain. The Bear Claw Chalet is perfect for a couple's getaway or family ski vacation.
Fireplaces! We have a real wood-burning fireplace fully stocked with firewood for your stay. Jack Claycomb was a master mason and hand built our massive fireplace to be the center focal point of the Bear Claw mountain chalet.
Authentic Mountain Chalet - Bear Claw is an authentic mountain cabin, not a condo dressed up to look like a cabin. The Bear Claw chalet was built entirely out of locally-sourced timber that features massive log beams and rough-cut interior. You will not find one ounce of drywall in this all-wood log home. The logs still have the bark on them!
Pet-Friendly - We are pet lovers! We welcome most breeds of dogs, a rarity here in the Laurel Highlands. We do have a few breed restrictions however since there are multiple cabins situated on our property.
Wildlife and Bird Watching - Bear Claw Chalet has a large bird feeder on the back wooden deck that attracts all sorts of birds from Blue-Jays, Cardinals, Woodpeckers and a variety of Finches. Deer plots are set up near the cabin that attracts White-Tail Deer as well as squirrels and an occasional grey fox or two.

This weekend trip with friends was made perfect by the host and the beautiful cabin! Julie was such a great host, and we truly couldn’t have found a better or more beautiful place to stay. This absolutely will be a yearly trip for us.
I was looking for a reasonably priced place to stay near 7 Springs and this cabin ended up being the perfect spot. Just minutes away from the resort with everything I could have asked for. Lots of space, warm, comfortable, with full kitchen. I was very impressed. It was obvious to me that the property is maintained very well. I would love to stay here again when I come back next year.
My husband & I spent the weekend in this charming cabin. The cabin is well equipped and very comfortable & cozy. The owner, Dave made us feel very welcomed. And the location is very convenient, close to our favorite Laurel Mountain locations.
The Claycomb Chalet was ideal for our family of four. Our teenagers squealed with delight when they saw that they each got their own loft space. The cabin has a beautiful chalet ambiance and the location was ideal for access to all the Frank Lloyd Wrigjt homes in the area as well as the natural features of Ohiopyle State Park. I have already recommended the property to friends who want to visit the area.
Family ski trip and stayed at these cool cabins short distance from Seven Springs resort. Our teenagers loved the lifts for sleeping and my husband and I also liked that we could bring our dogs with us. The cabin was very clean and stocked with wood for fireplace and fir pit outside. Kitchen had everything to cook with. Grocery store is up the road if you need anything. We had an awesome time and would definitely stay there again.
The chalet was so cozy and inviting! It was well stocked with everything needed. We loved the outdoor space as well and building fires at night! We had chickens visit from a neighbor's home! We put food in the bird feeder and enjoyed watching the birds. At times, we had poor internet connectivity, but, we were there to relax and enjoy, so not a big deal! Our dog loved it too! The area was gorgeous with lots of places to shop!
Our chalet was super clean and comfortable. The hosts were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The location is great—easy to access all major Laurel Highlands attractions.
Cabin was beautiful. Only thing I'd have different is the fire pit behind the cabin.
There wasn't much room to sit around the fire as it was right against the driveway. The cabin was beautiful and clean. It was a very peaceful and relaxing stay.
My friend and I had an excellent time staying at Claycomb Chalet. The rustic space was well appointed, charming & comfortable. The hostess Julie, greeted me upon arrival and shared that her father built the cabins in the 70's and you can immediately imagine generations of family and friends gathering at the cabins to share fun and memorable times together. It's wonderful that others now have the opportunity to share in such a special place.
She was also kind enough to share some home grown vegetables from her garden which we prepared as part of our food for our stay. Overall our stay was everything we had hoped it will be and we will be back for sure!!
My family and I enjoyed taking a trip to this lovely chalet in the woods. We enjoyed ourselves, however the few times I stopped by the property manager‘s office to inquire about something I couldn’t locate them. A couple times the Wi-Fi performed very poorly, other times it worked fine. That is obviously not the main reason why you get a cabin in the woods, but it would’ve been nice if it worked at night. Other small maintenance items like the faucet dripping in the kitchen, the front door being very tough to lock, the slide door having no handle, and a few other small items, did not completely detract from the experience, but could use repair. Overall my family and I really loved it, I would go back again. Hope this helps you.
Our 3 day visit was for a family reunion with two senior citizens, 3 children (ages 9-3), two dogs, and two adults. Booking and check in was easy, communication for questions via Vrbo messaging was quick, and both Dave and Julie were accommodating to a sudden change in our reservation. We didn't meet the host (Julie) until the evening before check-out, but she was very friendly. The location is absolutely stunning. Quiet and spacious with a well equipped kitchen and laundry room. The wi-fi was spotty and worked some of the time, which we used just because it rained for the first two days of our visit. The cabin was very clean and was a comfortable stay.
Our only complaints were that the bird feeder was empty and we didn't know we needed to bring seed, the picnic table pictured in the listing wasn't there, and the master bed is a full size, not a queen which made for difficult sleeping with a very tall husband and a toddler in bed. Overall, it is a wonderful location and we would absolutely stay again. My kids are already begging to go back!
This was my first cabin experience so I was really excited. The cabin was clean and smelled freshly done. It's much more beautiful and spacious in person, the pics don't do them justice. There were only a few inconveniences such as the microwave not working and the internet connection being really bad but we wanted to use the grill anyway and went stargazing since the wifi was spotty, which only made for great memories. There was plenty of firewood to keep the fireplace burning and the area was so quiet and peaceful. The owners never came out to greet us but that's ok, we just assumed they didn't see us pull in. Overall, it was a wonderful, relaxing, peaceful cabin and I 100% recommend this cabin for couples, families, or even just a spot for friends to get away from the city.
House was perfect for our getaway...including our fur babies! Nearby white water rafting, segway tours, clay shooting and lots of other activities for active teenagers. Home owners couldn't have been nicer! Thinking of making it an annual visit!

About the host
Hosted by Julie Claycomb
Owners Jack and Julie inherited the property known as Claycomb Chalets from their late father whom built the Chalet cabins in the early 1980's. Jack Sr., their father was an avid skier and outdoors-man who loved the Laurel Highlands and decided to retire here and build his mountain chalets for everyone to enjoy while visiting the Laurel Highlands.
Today Jack and Julie maintain residence at the property and Julie manages the day-to-day operations of the mountain retreat. They feel being on-site offers their guests a sense of trust knowing someone is there to check them in and show them around the property and area. They are quick to respond for anything from additional linens to helping getting the fire started if necessary.
Why they chose this property
In 2014 Jack and Julie had the idea of continuing their father’s legacy in the Laurel Highlands by opening up Claycomb Chalets to the public by offering short-term vacation rentals in their father’s one-of-a-kind Chalets. They both quickly found out why their father loved the mountain and the people that came to visit year-round. Following in their father's traditions, they enjoy getting to know their guests and host annual open houses, pig roasts and holiday parties for all to enjoy.
What makes this property unique
Hands down it has to be the stone fireplaces. Who doesn't enjoy sitting by the fireplace sipping a good glass of wine while watching wildlife frolic among the woods surrounding the cabin. Snow covered trees in the winter and dark green forest and plant life in spring and summer months. The fall produces some of the most amazing changing colors that visitors from hundreds of miles come to experience. Finally, the people. We have amazing guests that come back year-after-year to enjoy our cabin.
