About this property

Secluded, Romantic Getaway. Perfect for Families Too!

Located in Pine Mountain Club CA, this newly refurbished three bedroom, one and a half bath home provides an ideal retreat from the relentless pace of the big city.

Only an hour and a half north of LA, people find it hard to believe that they're even in Southern California. We're located at 5,600 feet, on the forested slopes of 8,831 foot tall Mt. Pinos, where all four seasons make themselves known, one after the other.

We're located walking close, down a charming path, to the quaint PMC Village Center, which offers many conveniences, from restaurants and shops, to a grocery store and bakery, to name a few. At the same time, our home has a secluded feel, being at the end of a 150' gravel driveway, with a 'green belt' on three sides.

Nestled in a grove of amazing 60' tall oak trees, it's easy to lose track of time gazing out the huge sliding glass door at 7,492 foot San Emigdio Mountain., or sitting on the spacious deck, listening to the streams that flow into the meadow below us. It's common to see deer grazing just below the deck.

Built in 1974, our cabin is kind of a time capsule of that era, with its shag carpets, beautiful pine paneling and very 70's color scheme. Don't let that fool you though; with broadband wireless internet, 42' plasma high-definition flatscreen with DirecTV and Google Chromecast, we are fully up to date with 21st Century technology.

This area is most popular for its proximity to Mt. Pinos (you can drive almost to the top) and the Winter sports (cross-country skiing, sledding and inner-tubing) associated with it, but many love it up here in the warm months as well, when it's 20 degrees cooler than sweltering LA, and there's always a breeze. There's great hiking up here, and bicycling too, both on and off-road. There's also a 9-hole golf course at the PMC clubhouse, and a swimming pool, so in Summer, bring your bathing suit! We have guest passes that entitle our guests to use all facilities at the clubhouse.

A lot of folks simply come up here, whatever the season, to chill out and enjoy each others' company. Next time you've got a week-end or more where you'd like to get away to a very comfortable home away from home in the beautiful, peaceful mountains, we'd love to hear from you!

We do not rent for more than 2 weeks at a time.

Great location, wonderful host
Wonderful location right on the path that runs between the homes and town. Host went above and beyond on communication, even monitoring road closures for us and proactively changing our check out time when there was an overnight snowfall. DVD library and game selection was excellent and there were plenty of spices in the kitchen. All in all, a great stay.

Rustic Dream
This was the perfect antidote to all those cookie-cutter vacation rentals. Felt like going to a friend's cabin -- rustic, secluded and a great spot to enjoy nature next to a roaring fire.

Wonderful place to stay!
There are so many complimentary things to say about our stay. Chris provides every detail about getting there, staying there, things to do, etc. His welcome book is the only reason we found the Snowflake trail, a hidden gem. The village is a 15 minute walk away. The cabin is comfortable, nice and cool even when it's 90 outside. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Wonderful Stay
We had a great time. It is a guest cleaned cabin and so it wasn't as clean as one would have hoped. However that has nothing to do with the cabin itself. The little shopping center that's nearby is very convenient. Overall it was a wonderful stay and this is a great cabin!

Perfect for families
So you get to make your own beds and do clean-up at the end; the cabin is totally worth it! Chris is a great host, really goes to lengths to make guests comfortable, and his cabin shows his long history of being a pro at doing that. Snow everywhere, easy access to trails and the road up to Mt Pinos for some unique winter scenery and views, as well as great sledding.

Birthday stay
We had a very nice stay at this cabin. The owner was gracious with all needs and more than helpful. The cabin was well equipped with what you need for your stay. The beds were very comfortable and the scenery was like out of a magazine. If you forget something, town was close enough to be able to pick things up and the people there are polite. I would stay at this cabin again, the movie selection alone is worth the stay.

Cozy cabin if you are snowed in
Chris' cabin is exactly like the listing. We didn't have much opportunity to explore the surrounding area due to a snow storm, but we did enjoy Chris' large DVD collection, the beautiful fireplace, efficient heater and spectacular views. Chris is an exceptional host and very easy to get a hold of. We loved this cozy space and would definately stay here again.

Perfect for some time in the woods.
My family spent Labor Day weekend in Chris' Cabin. What a great place for a quick little family getaway. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. Chris is a great host and makes sure you are set for your visit. The cabin's king and queen beds upstairs are comfortable. We did not use the twin beds downstairs. The view from the balconies is relaxing as you look out on the woods and the mountains. You can even hear water flowing from a creek, but we couldn't see it. Did some small hikes, swam at the club down the street, and explored the little town during the day. At night, we played board games, watched a movie, and most importantly spent time as a family. This cabin is perfect for some time in the woods.

A relaxing, quiet weekend in the woods!
The hubby, myself and the pups had a wonderful stay at Chris's Cabin. It was clean, quiet and cozy with plenty of entertainment. The King size bed was super comfy - we are total bed snobs by the way. The couch and dining chairs however, not so much (but again, we are plush snobs.) The bakery in the village was delicious and we even had a little snow up the mountain to play in. It was a great, inexpensive weekend and we will definitely be back.

Perfect getaway cabin!
We absolutely loved our stay at Chris’s cabin! It was very large and perfectly located in this little end of a cul-de-sac. Even though there is a hill behind the cabin, I felt very safe having my kids play out front on their own. The view is spectacular, it’s very private and so comfortable. Chris was amazing at communicating all the details about our stay and I had a nice conversation with him before we left to make sure we were all set to go. There is even a little patch of snow out in front of the house that the kids played in for about three hours! We found some nice sledding spots and really enjoyed our time there. We will definitely rent from Chris again!

Lack of cleanliness
This particular property, appears as though not to have been cleaned since the last people stayed. Reached out to the owner twice in the first 12 hours. We are four days in and have still not heard from him. As I told him, I’m not looking for a break on the price. But the fact that there was a cleaning Fee charged, and we were expected to clean also was very ironic in the fact that we received it in an unclean manner. Left it better than we found it, however.

Lovely location
My husband and I and our two dogs enjoyed our week at this hillside retreat with great views. Cozy and warm. Great comfortable king-sized bed upstairs. Park with hiking trails within walking distance of cabin. Amazing DVD collection, excellent taste in movies with surround sound. The owner, Chris, was very responsive to our questions or requests before, during and after our stay and was honest upfront about the limitations of the Internet throughout the Pine Mountain Club.

Perfect little Get Away
Pros-Beautiful location! Place is a little dated, but that added to the charm. Bed was super comfy. Movie selection huge! All pots/pans, utensils, plates all there. Cons- all though the cabin is “self-clean” it was dirty when we arrived. Dusty! Spiderwebs in kitchen cabinets attached to mugs/glasses and ants in kitchen. dirty floors. We just spruced it up our first day and it was fine. We did have to purchase candles/air freshener. Would we stay again? YES!!!!

Nice area lots of birds
The house is a nice space, great grill good cookware nice deck to watch birds. The house is in need of a really good cleaning, cobwebs in the rafters of master bedroom. Thick dust on shelves. Kitchen cabinets cluttered and haven’t been cleaned out in a long time. The floors were sticky and dirty when we got there. Did communicate with the owner and he was kind enough to refund some money. Still it was not what we were expecting.

Cozy Mountain Getaway
Our family wanted a weekend getaway to the mountains so our kids (7 &10) could play in the snow and do some sledding. Pine Mountain Club is a short drive up the 5 from Santa Clarita and was much more convenient than driving to Big Bear or other mountain communities in Southern California. The cabin is in a great location at the end of a cul-de-sac and the grounds are amazing. Our kids (and puppy) had a fun time exploring each day and we were able to take a walk to town down a charming path. We found great options for snow play and sledding near Mt. Pinos about a 20 minute drive from the cabin. The cabin itself was perfect for our family of four and had more than enough sleeping space. Everything about it was cozy and comfortable. We watched movies (you won't find a more extensive DVD collection anywhere) and enjoyed a fire the second night. You can find anything you might need, including firewood, at the store in town. I can't say enough good things about the host, Chris. He called to confirm our stay and go over everything after I booked and his welcome book in the cabin lists anything you might need to know about the property and surrounding area. Thanks, Chris, for sharing your cabin with us! We'll definitely be back!

Quiet get away
We enjoyed the quiet get away. The property is located at the end of a cul de sac on a quiet street. The house is walking distance to the town, through a marked path or a short drive. In town, we enjoyed eating at The Perch and Condor Cafe, getting pastries from the Bear Claw bakery and experiencing the Christmas parade.-which included a picture with Santa. In addition, we enjoyed the sighting of a momma black bear and her cubs from the balcony.

Spartan Vacation
Our stay was wonderful. There was no cell service and upon arrival I was unable to retrieve the check in instructions. Chris was available via phone (only Verizon, I have ATT) at 10 on when we arrived and got is settled without any issue. My wife and I were doing 3 Spartan races in Tejón Ranch so the family stated in the cabin on Saturday. They enjoyed the relaxing vibes and the large collection of movies (the instruction book covers EVERYTHING you’ll need to know). They even saw a bear. We all enjoyed our time there and wish we could have stayed longer, would definitely recommend.

Lovely place to unwind
We could not be happier with our stay at Chris' cabin. When we entered the property for the first time, we immediately felt home: the atmosphere was cozy, there was plenty of living space, including the deck, which like the whole cabin, offers maximum privacy, and everything was well maintained. The other reviewers were right: Chris is the best host, and he'll go the extra mile to ensure that his guests have the best experience possible. Highly recommended!

About the host

Host profile image
I am a full-time musician in LA. I have always loved coming up to PMC since I was a kid. I still come up here whenever I can, to decompress and recharge. For years now I've been renting our cabin, 'Chris' Cabin,' to a lot of very nice folks. I never knew I would enjoy this so much! Everyone seems to love it. I try to be very attentive, to make sure everyone has a wonderful time.

Why they chose this property

My Dad and I used to camp out up here in the 60s, when I was a kid. Dad and family friend Shirley bought a choice lot in brand new Pine Mt. Club. That was 1971. In 1974 they had this great cabin built, and it was our personal retreat. We always had a wonderful time whenever we'd come up. Dad and Shirley left me the cabin when they passed on. I totally revamped the cabin over a 6 month period in 2007, because I wanted to make it as comfortable and cozy as possible. I wanted to share the special experience of coming up to this beautiful place by making it a vacation rental.

What makes this property unique

It came out great! Chris' Cabin is a perfect combination of a cabiny feel (pine paneling, shag carpet, brick fireplace.), and all the hi-tech comforts (42' Plasma TV w/ 5.1 surround sound, Satellite TV, Satellite broadband internet.), as well as creature comforts (Very comfortable beds!, brand new top-line appliances, fully equipped kitchen). It's down a long driveway off a cul de sac. Situated right on the 'greenbelt', where no structures will ever be built, with a breathtaking view of Mt. San Emigdio on the opposing side of the Canyon. There is great hiking right out the front door, as well as nearby. We have descriptions of these and many other local activities in our 'Welcome Book'. You can walk to the nearby Village Center via the charming 'Snowflake Trail', a 10-15 minute walk. We have Guest Passes to use the facilities at the PMC clubhouse. Chris' Cabin is also a perfect combination of a secluded feel and lovely view, while being conveniently close to the Village Center.
