About this property

Family and Pet Friendly, Amazing Mountain Views, Quiet Yet Close to Everything!

When you first arrive you will drive along a charming gravel drive lined with hemlocks and blooming mountain laurels. The house is situated on ten acres, with a level shaded yard making it a welcome spot for families and friends to relax.

You will be greeted by a cheerful front screened porch and a breathtaking view as you open the front door into the great room, featuring hand-hewed woodwork. The main part of the home has an open floor plan, flowing seamlessly between the great room and dining room (seats 8-10 people). Just off the dining room is the kitchen, with meticulously handmade cabinetry, updated appliances, large pantry and powder room. In the evening, retreat to watch the sunset on the back porch with an extensive stone seating area and look out to Whiteside Mountain.

The Master retreat features a large dressing room with two generous closets, ensuite master bath with his and hers sinks, and stunning mountain views. The other two bedrooms are located on the other side of the house with a shared full bath in a private hallway.

The area surrounding our mountain house is called the Land of Waterfalls and has endless opportunities for outdoor activities. Additionally, the towns of Highlands and Cashiers offer award-winning dining and shopping experiences.

Amazing location & unbeatable view

Wonderful stay, you feel like you are visiting the mountain get aways of past. A step back to 1960, but with amenities we all prefer (dishwasher, warm showers, TV, kitchen, w/d, etc). Good communication, lots of space to spread out. Great house for entertaining. We can easily recommend.

Lovely Location and Home

The view was superb and the house was wonderful in spite of being a bit outdated. Our one disappointment was in the instructions we received the day before our check-in, we were told not to have a fire in the fireplace. One of the main things we love about the mountains and renting houses is to have a fire. Otherwise, the house was well appointed and we enjoyed our visit.

Heavenly View

My daughter has a house in Cashiers but we needed more room for the Thanksgiving overflow. This house was perfect with a main living area and separate wings off the den for sleeping. The view is amazing from the den. Enjoyed seeing deer in the yard.The house is well stocked even with spices. It is a perfect older mountain home. Very comfortable. Communication with the manager was good. We hope to rent again.

Great location and incredible view. One of the best in the area without a doubt. Quite property with no sight of homes or neighbors. A very relaxing environment and we loved that. No central air but there is a unit in the bedroom. However, it was a low of 48F in the morning and highs of 73F in the evenings with a light breeze. We didn’t use it anyway! Marilyn was great and very helpful with checkin and providing hikes in the the area to enjoy. Thank you !!

Amazing family mountain getaway

I stayed here with my dad, sister, 2 nephews and my daughter. It was so quiet and the view was amazing. Feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere all alone and peaceful, but you are I ites from Cashiers and Highlands. We loved it!

Lovely home

Beautiful home with gorgeous mountain views, convenient to Cashiers, Highlands and all the area has to offer. A great fit for our family, the home is spotless and clearly well cared-for. Also enjoyed the hikes, waterfalls, fishing, and more - all within close driving distance. Would definitely stay again!

Perfect Winter Spot

Our family had a great time at Free Bird! The views were spectacular off the back porch. The house was spacious and cozy. The kids particularly loved the swing in the front yard. The house was a short 10 minute drive with no turns to both Highlands and Cashiers.

Perfect family retreat

This was the perfect place for our young family of 4 to spend the week in the mountains. We had an amazing view and tons of room for the kids to play inside and out. The house feels totally remote and secluded yet you are only 10 minutes from Cashiers and 15 from Highlands. This has obviously been a well loved home and it made a perfect home away from home for us. They everything we could have possibly needed. We hope to be back. Could easily accommodate 2 families.
