Stayed at the cottage with my family and friends for a flawless week in August. It’s a lovely historic home in the center of Port Clyde. My kids loved the game room and upstairs bedroom, which they basically converted into their own loft apartment. The deck has FANTASTIC views of an honest-to-God Maine fishing harbor and spectacular sunsets over the water. We were also able to kayak off the deck at high tide. The house is really comfortable and well appointed; linens, cookware, beach stuff, etc, everything we needed. House is also set up well for a group, it’s bigger than it seems in photos and kinda feels like 3 separate houses when everyone goes to bed. Karan and Jerry are gracious hosts and very responsive. Location is awesome, right in Port Clyde village, a short walk to ice cream, dinner, and coffee, and a quick bike ride to the drift inn beach or the lighthouse. My kids picked hermit crabs and paddle boarded for hours. Great bike riding around the peninsula. Quick drive to Rockland and about 40 mins to Camden if you want to do the tourist thing. I was worried that there would be “traffic” or that” it would be “busy” right in the village, which is hilarious once you realize how quiet Port Clyde actually is. House is about 200 yards from the Monhegan Ferry but was basically pin drop quiet at all times. Ocean House across the street has great breakfast. Would definitely go back.

Peaceful in Port Clyde
This was our third year staying at this oceanfront retreat. The property is very clean and well-stocked. The owners are incredibly accommodating, responsive, and friendly. Between swimming off the dock, crabbing, kayaking, fishing, and cooking lobsters by the water, this is the ideal location to get away from it all and embrace the serenity and beauty of Port Clyde. Thank you for another memorable summer vacation!

Port Clyde is magical
Staying in the village of Port Clyde was perfect for our families. This house had everything we needed and more. We got a chance to meet Karan, the owner, and we heard about the wonderful history of the house. The proximity to everything was amazing and our pre-teen and teen crew loved the independence of going to places on their own. The sunsets that we got to watch from the deck were spectacular! Being so close to Drift Inn beach, the Ferry and boat tours, and Marshall Point light was a bonus. You can’t beat being right next to the ice cream shop! It is a wonderful place!

The property comes with all you could ask for a relaxing getaway in an incredible location. We HIGHLY recommend this property to anybody looking to experience the charm and beauty of St. George.

Charming Port Clyde Home
We had a magical week in Port Clyde, staying at the Cushman cottage. The house was perfectly situated just a couple of steps from the Adorable ice cream shop and general store. The kids spent the day, jumping off the dock and playing on their kayaks, while we watch the fishing and lobster boats, come and go. Absolute perfection! The Cushman family could not have been more hospitable and welcoming, and we will be sure to return.

A wedding finally!
Thanks to COVID and complications we finally were able to have a wedding celebration that was to happen 2 years ago! Karen was so wonderful in helping me adjust my year and dates twice! Always very responsive, she helped accommodate my changes. We had a great place to gather for my family and the close proximity to Tenants Harbor made it a perfect location. A good group took a fantastic trip to Monhegan, others went to a beach or walked around the village. The house was roomy, clean and a great gathering place for our family. Thank you Karen for a great rental!

Lovely property Great location
We really enjoyed this house. The house is truly charming. The space is very comfortable. My husband and I and our 17 year son were on the one side and my 20 Yo daughter had the loft to herself. It worked out great for all My Husband hated the stairs - maybe bc he’s tall. But I loved them! The house is built like a ship with little doors and cubbies everywhere. Terrific use of space. And the sunsets are phenomenal!! Oh, and ping pong was a great addition ! Close Right in the center of small port Clyde. But even my husband who is always in search of a pub was happy.

Great experience!
We absolutely loved our trip to Port Clyde and our stay in the Cushmans' house. The location was fabulous. We enjoyed walking down to the town/harbor each morning for coffee (Squid Ink) and breakfast treats (general store). It was about a two minute walk to everything in town. We also walked next door for ice cream practically every day. There is a barn in the small town where we enjoyed cocktails. We also took the ferry from the harbor to Monhegan Island, which was beautiful. The place has its own dock, and during high tide, you can take out kayaks or paddle boards. We spent a lot of time on the back deck - plenty of space for our party of 7. Big lobster dinner on the deck. Gorgeous views, especially at sunset. The kids also really enjoyed the ping pong table. Hours of fun! There is a beach nearby that we loved, and of course the lighthouse is very close, too. Our hosts went out of their way to accommodate us. They were prompt in answering any questions and we had the absolute best experience!

Port Clyde Village at its Finest
From the initial booking, the property owners communicated regularly and provided helpful recommendations in the weeks leading up to the trip. They were accessible to answer any questions and clearly wanted to ensure we had a great visit to Port Clyde. The home was spacious and very well-stocked with everything (and then some). The kids especially loved the ping-pong table. The location was, simply put, perfect. The deck off the back provided sweeping views of the harbor, while the docks provided hours of fun fishing, crabbing, and the perfect spot to put in our kayaks (thank you Port Clyde Kayaks!!). We bought lobsters from Spinner at Off the Dock before watching the sun set across the Saint George River and stargazing (even saw the International Space Station and Starlink satellites among the constellations). Within a very short walk to Village Ice Cream, the General Store, Dip Net, yet still just a slightly longer walk to Marshall Point and Drift Inn Beach, this was the perfect location. Thank you, Gerry and Karan for helping provide the setting for a perfect week in Port Clyde!

Roomy place, great location
We really enjoyed our stay at the Port Clyde house. Lots of room, fresh and bright, well equipped with kitchen supplies as well as towels, etc. The deck is wonderful, with views of the harbor and the location right in Port Clyde is perfect. It was great for our multi-generational family. One note, for those for whom it might matter, there is a step down into the first floor bedroom, and the bathroom is in another part of the house. Also a step in the living room. These are well marked.

Great cozy stay in village with great harbor views
We had such a fun time here b/c being in the village of Pt Clyde was super convenient, and the house had a game room with a ping pong table! We played every day in between fun activities - kayaking, getting coffee at Squid Ink, taking the ferry to Monhegan Island (we walked to the ferry easily from the house), etc. Great times! Our entire multi-gen group had an incredible time! The owners were very welcoming and helpful. We love the charming traditional community of Port Clyde. I was originally concerned about having enough space in the house to spread out but the 6 adults and 2 kids all had plenty of room in such a unique home. We enjoyed being able to bike to the beach, walk to the docks, general store, restaurant & ice cream. We spent a day on Monhegan Island and had fresh lobster dinner on the docks. Great location in charming fishing village
This unique cottage in charming Port Clyde had plenty of room for our family of 4 to spread out in August 2020. Our young adult daughter claimed the loft, our son, the downstairs bedroom and my husband and I took the upstairs bedroom with the sitting room. The living and dining rooms are inviting and the kitchen well stocked. Plenty of towels and linens were comfortable. Although located on the main road of the village, the cottage is very quiet and stayed comfortably cool with windows open and fans that are provided. There are lovely views and sunsets from the back deck and a "party dock", complete with all you will need for a large lobster boil and steps from the "Red Barn" which houses a very cute bar in the evenings. Everything in the small village is just footsteps away - the general store, a restaurant, ice cream and the ferry to Monhegan Island (highly recommend). Also we did the Puffin boat tour and learned a lot about lobstering, which was great. Buy your fish/lobsters fresh off the dock. Owners are very friendly and responsive but we had no problems with the property. I also recommend walking to the Marshall Point Lighthouse and forage for fresh wild berries on your way. Those who are interested in art will appreciate Port Clyde's connection to the Wyeth family who owned a couple of islands near the port. You are also near many charming towns such as Camden, Rockport and the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and beyond. We were grateful for the peace of this place during the stressful pandemic. Only reason I am giving 4 stars is that the bathrooms are in need of updating and some of the window screens need to be repaired.

Why they chose this property

We were very lucky to have the opportunity to purchase the 'Tate' house in 2007 from the children of Norm and Janice Tate. Both were celebrated artists which is evident in the art and interior decor. Norm was a retired Disney illustrator and Janice an accomplished artist and avid gardener who had a Summer Art Workshop series and brought many artists to Port Clyde. My husband Gerry, a fifth-generation lobstermen, owned the wharf next door and it was Norm's wish that this historic house and its waterfront access be made available to a local fishing family. Lucky us. With a six-month daughter old in tow and two helpful parents, we restored the natural beauty of this Port Clyde icon, which was once a store, in time for the rental season of 2007. It's been a full-summer season ever since!

What makes this property unique

This historic residence is full of light and character. Norm and Janice's love for art, boat building and history still pops up everywhere -- in Norm's wood carvings in the old posts in the living room, the gone sailing sign on the gameroom door, his books on the shelves, the antiques and artwork everywhere all tell a story about the Port Clyde area and the special nature of the people who call it home. Outside, Janice's gardens are still alive and a very restful place to be in the heart of the village. We've made our dock available and we also own two wharf buildings down below (one tiny and one two-story). One is my office and the other Gerry uses for his lobster business. So we're usually not far if you have questions or need something.

We welcome families of all ages. Leasees must be over the age of 24.
