About this property

In the middle of nowhere - close to everything! Stay in elegance & comfort

The Barrel House is in our 5th year of operation and originally we catered to "Bourbon enthusiasts". However, over these past 5 years, we have had so many guests stay with us for family vacations and reunions, bird watching, star gazing, history seeking, biking and touring as well as spirits! Whatever your reason to visit, you have EVERY reason to stay at the Barrel House. We are just a half hour to many interesting destinations including two trains, the Abbey of Gethsemani, museums, Lincoln and Civil war history trails and last but certainly not least, the world famous Bourbon Trail and wineries. Our house boasts king beds in both of our bedrooms and a lux shower, as well as a pavillion for outdoor dining and easy unloading of belongings. Our property has 6 acres of rolling hills for hiking and a pond for swimming as well as fishing.Our idea of nightlife is cozying up to a fire with a good pour, good friends and good conversation, not to mention a breath taking view of the sky. You will need to bring your own provisions as I don't keep food up at the bnb any longer.

Slice of heaven

Amazing property for those looking to be out of the way and secluded. Host (Lauren) is such a nice person, I enjoyed chatting with her. We appreciated our time here and would recommend to other looking a a quiet stay near bourbon country.

Amazing place!

This place was absolutely incredible! The barrel room really sets the tone to this place and reminds you that you are in bourbon country. It really is in the middle of nowhere but is still somehow close to everything. The property is absolutely beautiful and was very clean. The check in process was smooth. The property manager was easy to get a hold of and even left us delicious cinnamon bread. I really cannot think of anything I would change about the barrel house! Thank you for having us!

Lovely place!!

Very comfortable, quiet, farmhouse-type home. We loved it b/c of its seclusion. Its so peaceful, yet you're only 30 minutes from town. Very nice hostess, Lauren. Great for any occasion.

Gravel Road to a Peaceful Place of Relaxation

Fantastic property! Very spacious with all the amenities needed! Beautiful morning sunrises with crisp fresh air. Tons is things to do within a few short miles. Highly recommend checking out all the distilleries around the area. Lauren was an awesome property manager to deal with. Will def have this place on our list for when we go back. Beautiful scenic place to stay!

We enjoyed staying overnight here in the country, complete with tons of outdoor space, including a beautiful pond (that we could fish in!). It was super clean! Wish we would’ve stayed longer and got to enjoy the grill and firepit and great outdoor space. Plenty of indoor space too! Highly recommend the KY Dinner Train in Bardstown just about 20 or so minutes away!

Relaxing getaway

This was our annual sister weekend and we had an amazing time. We visited local sites and then had a full day at the property. Wonderful responsive hosts; beautiful environment and house. We were very relaxed and will return. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing getaway.

A slice of heaven in the Kentucky Hills

If it is possible, the listing drastically undersells this location. The house was PERFECT for what we needed as part of an anniversary get away doing the bourbon trail. You have everything you need and then some. The owners live across the street and were not only very helpful with communicating and recommendations, but even invited us over for a delightful chat. The pancake mix and surprise baked treat are not to be missed. The location is beautiful, and yet still convenient to all the bourbon and all the things. We WILL be back and we will stay here. You can't go wrong with this location.

July 4th Holiday Get-A-Way

My wife and I live in Indianapolis. We were looking to just get away from the hustle of our daily lives and slow down and just detach. This place did it for us. Short 3 hour drive and we were there. The home was spotless and extremely welcoming. You cannot miss the sign that directs you to the home...unless its dark and some rain... Seriously super easy to find. The place had everything you need. The entry to the bourbon tasting room sets the mood and the experience. Lauren and her husband are fantastic hosts. They were so easy to reach and communicate with. We have T-Mobile and had very little cell service (which we both enjoyed). They wifi is strong and can be used at the firepit if needed. Overall, what a great place to stay and unwind. If you like to fish, the ponds have plenty of Bass, Bluegill, and a few crappie. You are on the bourbon trail, so if that's something you want to enjoy, there are distilleries close. Overall, this place was perfect for my wife and I. I feel two adult couples or a family of 4 would have a blast with the accommodations. Get out and experience the amazing views and outdoors while you stay.

Great theme throughout

Enjoyed our stay. Beds super comfortable. Great out of the way location to retreat and unwind with bourbon, games, fishing and outside covered patio. We were able to grill and enjoy the fantastic weather. Signed our names on a barrel to commemorate our stay. Some cobwebs around walls in bedrooms/closets/main room, but place didn’t feel dirty overall. Banana bread left for us was delicious and a very nice touch.

Wonderful time in a beautiful area

We absolutely loved this home away from home. It was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The hosts were easy to communicate with. The property was close enough to so many things. We spent a day in Louisville, a day in Lexington, a day in Bardstown, we went fishing, watch sunsets? had a bonfire and took a nice nap on the comfy couch. We had a great time!

Peace and quiet

We were looking for peace and quiet since we don't like 'hustle and bustle'. This property suited us just perfectly. We had homemade muffins, fresh fruit, and grits (thank you, Lauren..that was an extra touch that made it feel like home) waiting for us on arrival. Would definitely stay again.

Hit the bourbon trail!

Loved our stay - great quiet spot as a home base for our bourbon tours. We loved the outdoor grill and firepit and the comfy sectional for watching moving ands sipping a little bourbon each night. Host was great - easy check in, answered all our questions and made sure we got in and had all we needed! Thanks for a great stay!

Hi, I'm Lauren. My husband & I moved to New Hope 28 years ago. Alot has changed, but then again a lot remains the same. We love the rolling hills, quiet streams and natural simplicity that comes with life in the country. We acquired additional property across the street from our home and decided to make it a bed & breakfast to showcase all that this area has to offer. Most people come out for the Bourbon Trail and leave with not only bourbon, but with an understanding that New Hope and it's surrounding towns have much more charm that what they imagined.

Why they chose this property

We are definetly out in the country but are close to so many places to visit and enjoy. We are 10 minutes away from the Abbey of Gethemane which is a beautiful monastery with lovely trails to hike and, of course, if you like fudge and fruitcake...they are famous for the best around. We are also 10 minutes from the new Log Still Distillery which also boasts the Amp which has hosted some of the very best acts on their stage. We have at least 10 other distilleries within a 40 minute drive as well as trains, museums, Lincoln attractions, parks, shops, restaurants and so many other things. Come and find your favorite things to do.

What makes this property unique

Because we enjoy hosting our guests so much, we tend to offer many extras to make you want to come back again and again. We fully stock the kitchen with all that you may need for breakfast and previous guests leave other staples behind for those who come behind them. We have had several of guests over to share our meals over the past few years when I have the time to cook, and we usually will offer to come hang out and have a drink and some lively conversation. We have a fire pit up at the bnb for you to enjoy and you may bring your own wood or purchase seasoned wood from us for $5.00 per bundle...a lot less than you'd pay for wood at the gas station. You are also welcome to forage for your own wood on our 16 acres of wooded back yard. Our plan is to spoil you!
