About this property

Cabin Neighboring Greenbrier State Forest

Pet friendly rustic mountain cabin sitting secluded on 70 acres and borders to the State Forest with walking distance to trails and disc course and 7 min drive to the Greenbrier Resort. The cabin has 3 bedrooms (third bedroom is the great room upstairs), including a queen size bed sofa, king bed and twin bed, also there are 2 camping cots that can be used in the living room. 1 full bathroom and a kitchen with all the common appliances and kitchen tools and a wood burning fire place. The AC in the house divided between 2 window units downstairs and a mobile unit upstairs, all bedrooms have fans. Outdoor patio with charcoal grill and a fire pit, firewood can be purchased at the gas stations.
Please NOTE there is NO WIIFII, CABLE or HOUSE PHONE. There are 3 TVs with DVD players and 1 BlueRay, and the living room has surround sound. We lived here for 4 years, I had a home office and I work with IT. We utilized a mobile hotspot for wiifii, with it placed in the window, we had enough bandwidth for me to download applications, attend teams meeting and our daughter streaming Netflix and TicToc. The TVs have HDMI, so bring a HDMI cable and your Netflix app and you can watch all the movies you want or bring DVDs.
The cabin has a large yard for the pets to run (no fence) and there is a built-in dog crate under the stairs in the cabin. The driveway is wide up by the cabin, you can turn around and park a camper up by the cabin.
The cabin has its own well, if you are used to city water, the well water will have a sulfur smell compared to city water. We have 2 purifying systems, but you might still taste a difference. The water is 100% ok to drink, and you will not have any discoloring on your clothing if you do laundry.
The cabin is 1400 sqft, it has the living standards of kitchen, bathroom, laundry etc. It doesn’t offer a luxury get away, it does offer evenings by the campfire, dark enough to see stars, wildlife will roam past and miles of trails and fishing options close by.
I have marked that it sleeps 8 with that number I am thinking a girls get away or men bachelor party. Its perfect for a family, but maybe not ideal for 4 generations with different sleep patterns.

Everything was great and just what we needed for a long weekend. We loved being so close to the park and Lewisburg is a fun town to visit. We would rent again!

Nice and private

Cabin was clean and as expected. Property was private and well off the road so our dogs could roam and hunt at will. It was what we needed as we had to be in the area for a few days. Enjoyed seeing the old dressage arena.

A Perfect Getaway!

My sister and I and our dogs thoroughly enjoyed our Winter visit! The house was absolutely charming. The wood stove kept us plenty warm and the scenery around the property was gorgeous. The access to the forest was so easy and we loved getting out and hiking. We had everything we needed while we were there and were very comfortable. Thanks for a great visit!!

Superior stop for 1/2,way point to spring break.

Easy access just off 64. Very scenic, idyllic 4.3 miles in to cabin. Cabin was charming. Kitchen is great for cooking. King bed comfortable. Great outdoor area, very secluded, for outdoor fire at night. Heard owls and coyotes, and the stars were amazing. Great cabin for price. As mentioned in other reviews, water source does smell of sulfur, and access to bedrooms upstairs could be challenging to those with physical limitations. Overall, great cabin for the price.

Ups and Downs

Property is amazing, kitchen well-equipped, fun to wander about. Front porch is awesome. Bathroom could use repair. Bring a flashlight. We lost power on our second night and there isn’t a single backup light source in the place.

Loved it!

It is just as advertised! The swings on the front porch were our absolute favorite part! We would fight over who got to sit there! (In good fun lol!) We got to see deer on the property, down in horse pasture area along Harts Run, which was awesome!! Highly suggest, to anyone who visits, to go to Blue Bend swimming hole (about 30 minutes away), if you're looking for a spot to swim. Thank you for letting us stay!

Mountain Isolation

We had a great two night weekend stay over New Year's with four adults and pets. The location was amazing and we loved the huge yard/property. We went to tour the Greenbriar bunker and the Lost World Cave on our full day so we didn't have a chance to hike the property. Lots of rain made us enjoy the covered porch and the kitchen was well stocked and the bathroom clean. Sleeping wasn't the best for more than 3 people, but the twin bed and queen were excellent. The built in dog crate was hilarious and very useful. The fireplace area was swell. We are glad we brought drinking water as the sulfur was awful as we were warned! Thanks!

Solitude in the mountains

After a deployment to Africa followed by a double hip replacement, my husband and I were looking to get away from our 3 teenagers and just relax in nature. This property definitely fit the bill! It was right next to the Greenbrier State Forest, so we enjoyed hiking, but it was also near the Greenbrier Resort as well as Lewisburg. We arrived on a Friday morning and left on Sunday afternoon, and still felt like we could have enjoyed more of what the area had to offer. The cabin is small, but spacious, and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for cooking. There is no WiFi, and the data service is spotty at best. For us, this was perfect, but others may not be so keen to be disconnected from the world. However, you are only about 10 minutes from the Greenbrier Resort if you need to have service. We really enjoyed our getaway and truly loved the area!

Bee's

Minimalistic, bath needs updated. Wet wooden steps slick every morning, no rail. Bee's Bee's Bees. Minimum 15 large wasp nests, two under porch canope just above your head. Huge hornet nest on corner of garage, very busy. I'm alergic to their stings. Almost impossible to regulate temps with 2 wall units downstairs and 1 mobile interior unit upstairs. Found 2 live deer ticks on couch downstairs on arrival. The place was just OK not what we expected for the price and we have stayed in log cabins with little amenities at a much higher quality and lower price.

Awesome location

Loved the location - quite, nature filled part of the country. The cabin was just a bit more rustic then we had expected. The well water smells horrible - makes you feel like it can't be used. We did shower but not enjoyable because of the sewer smell. There are things all over the cabin - books, magazines, cooking supplies (on the counter, in cabinets, in the fridge) - makes me feel like I'm invading someone's home. Towels are mixed in color, and many well worn. Kitchen sponges - very used! The TVs only serve to aggravate - not strong enough signal to get hot spot to work or stream anything. Bedroom (nice king bed) is upstairs which has trouble controlling the air - temperature and filters are all over up there. Bathroom is a flight of steps from all bedrooms - sheets also very used. None of the furniture was very comfortable - inside or out. The location is the best thing going for it. Recommend if you keep on the rental market that you clean out/up, invest in new towels/linens. Clearly describe the internet situation! We left a day early because we were ready to be more comfortable...love biking on the Greenbrier trail!

Nice Setting, Needs Cleaned and Lawn Furniture Repaired/Replaced

First things first. The property is located near several local points of interest and was a convenient meeting place for our group. We enjoyed the strings of outdoor lights and the ambiance they provided. I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the cabin. There were cobwebs and dead insects on the windowsills inside. The refrigerator doors were filled with condiments that were left by other guests. By the number of bottles and jars, they are the remnants of several past visitors or someone who is living there. The interior of the refrigerator is dirty (photo attached). There was no dishwasher detergent to be found and no extra garbage bags. The children’s bedroom fan was broken, the bed linens weren’t in the best shape, and there was a dead blue Jay in the wood stove in the kitchen. Two bath towels and one hand towel were provided - certainly not enough for eight guests and the bath mat was dirty. For safety’s sake, handrails on the front steps would be helpful. The septic tank smelled every time the toilet flushed. The Adirondack chairs are rough and rickety and the bottom of the grill was rusted out. While my friends and I enjoyed our time together, I wish we had rented a different property.

Great Location, quiet and relaxing

Cabin is in a great location to Greenbrier State Park and a short drive to Lewisburg. Firepit was a family favorite in the evenings and the front porch is a wonderful spot for morning coffee/tea to watch the sunrise. Not a luxury cabin but very comfortable with all the necessities.

Perfect Cozy Cabin!

Cabin nestled in gorgeous setting convenient to Lewisburg, the State Fair, Greenbriar etc. The nearby heated outdoor pool in the State Forest was wonderful! The cabin was comfortable and was equipped with everything we could possibly need. (Awesome kitchen …the owner must be a great cook/baker). The interior is comfy-cozy and has the feel of a happy family home. Outdoors we really enjoyed the covered porch with swings, a fire pit surrounded by several Adirondack chairs. We didn’t use the charcoal grill, but we easily could have. The owner was always super responsive and friendly. This cabin is perfect for a small family. Highly recommend!

Great Time!

My family and I had a great time at the cabin. Fire pit area and porch were used often. Loved the porch swings. Very quiet and beautiful area. We are not used to well water so we did bring lots of bottled water. Thanks to the owner for the heads up. Would love to return again.

Would be good for couple or individual with dog

The good: The location was awesome. Great access to hiking trails around nearby campground, and creek at campground. Quiet secluded property with walmart 20 min away if you forgot something. Sitting on the front porch or around the fire pit is bliss. The bad: The downstairs smells of urine, and pretty heavily right between kitchen & living room. Upstairs has two bedrooms & pull out sofa and it is all cooled with one freestanding swamp cooler that struggles to keep up. The owner has fans mounted in all rooms to try and help the situation. Two fans in each bedroom. The wall between master & kids room is literally a single sheet of plywood with visible gaps so there's no privacy at all. Also, their family photos are everywhere & "Emma's" stuff is everywhere, her art, her toys, her photos, her name cut out of wood, etc. You definitely feel like you're in their house in their space. It was a step up from camping and suited our purposes but certainly things to be aware of.

About the host

We built this cabin as our weekend gate away when we lived in DC, however not many years into it we decided to move here full time. After 4 awesome year we decided that it was time for the swede in our family to return to her roots and that is why we are now renting our cabin out while we are living in Sweden.

Why they chose this property

We love our mountain cabin because we love nature. It's a peaceful place, where you can hear the birds and see wildlife. The cabin sits on 70 acres, that you can hike and enjoy the creek that is running through it. Its close to the Greenbrier river for walking and kayaking or golfing at the Greenbrier Resort. The property is bordering to the forest and you hit all those trails without getting in your car.
