The Hen House & Gardens: Near USAFA & PineCrest Event Center

The Hen House:
This farm inspired hexagon cabin is an open loft with two bedrooms upstairs, with the kitchen, living room and large bathroom downstairs. We have a ladder staircase to get up to the 2nd floor. Please refer to photos and make sure all guest in your party are comfortable using it before you book. Nestled at the bottom of Limbaugh Canyon in Palmer Lake, you are less than a mile from the town, walking distance to countless trails and only 20 minute drive to the Air Force Academy! Well-behaved dogs are welcome but we do require a $30/night/animal additional fee (2 dog max). We invite you and your family to come and rest in our nest!

Please note that the home sits on two large lots. The owners stay in the back lot of the property which is completely separated by a 6ft fence. The main home, gardens, and chicken coop are separate and private for the renters . Owners are available upon request if needed.

Come and experience our peaceful neighborhood surrounded by trees, beautiful gardens, chickens and organic veggie gardens. Don't worry, you can enjoy the chickens without the work! The home is an open and bright atmosphere full of handmade wooden accents. You can enjoy your morning coffee on our porch, take a relaxing bubble bath in the clawfoot tub, or get creative in our second bedroom art studio. The kitchen is equipped with pots, pans, and most cooking utensils. We also have a small fenced in area to put your furry companion in for the times you are out in town. We are just around the corner from The Historic Pinecrest event center and close to the Renaissance Festival.

Our neighborhood is a great place full of outdoor adventures with wonderful places to hike, fish and explore! In town, you can enjoy a cup of joe the local coffee house, get a sweet treat at the Rock House Ice cream shop, and rent paddle boards to enjoy on the lake . During the weekend, enjoy live music and drinks at the local bars, a lovely dinner and stroll around the beautiful lake! Palmer Lake is a great place for families to come relax, be outdoors and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds it.

We are an easy walk to town (about 20 min) or a quick 3 min drive. We are about 10 minutes to I-25 and Monument and 20 minute drive to the Air Force Academy! We are located very close to The Historic Pinecrest Event center (about 8 minute walk). The Renaissance Festival in Larkspur is about 15 minute drive (depending on traffic) and you don't even have to get on the highway to get there! If you want to visit Colorado Springs it is a short 35 minutes to down town area. Denver is about 45 to 50 minutes depending on the area you want to explore.

A Must Stay!

The Hen House and Gardens in Palmer Lake is an absolute must stay for travelers in and around Denver and Colorado Springs! Conveniently located near local eateries, shops, gas, groceries, hiking trails and FUN activities for the entire family. Amanda is an exceptional host! Her place is so clean and cozy with a well appointed kitchen, laundry and all necessities and extras to ensure a comfortable stay!

A Clucking Great Place to Stay

This place is very cool for when you want to stay somewhere quiet nestled at the bottom of a mountain. It has everything you need, great decor, an adventurous ladder staircase for getting to the upper bedrooms, and friendly chickens to feed! It was also awesome to have fresh eggs for breakfast.

The house is cute as can be. My wife loved the garden. My kids loved the chickens. I enjoyed the eggs every morning, the mountains (always) and the fact that my family loves it so. The listing says it'll sleep 5, so we brought 5. Next, I think I'd keep it the crew to 2 or 3 though. Many thanks to the owner and her keen hospitality...we hope to see and rent from you again.

We really loved this place. For us it was all there. Location is central not to far away but just far away enough. Home was perfect for us. Comfortable and relaxing. Super clean everything works the way is should. We look foward to coming back sometime. If your reading reviews trying to make up you mind... just do it you won't regret it. It's one of those places you find that you tell everyone about except you don't want to tell them where it is cause they'll all start coming and you will never get in again.

Quick getaway

The cabin is cozy and clean. Bedrooms are in a loft with ladder access so if you are not up for that, especially when the bathroom is on the main level, it could be a challenge. It wasn't a big deal for me or my wife, just pointing it out. The property is at the base of the mountains and it is secluded. The property is "pet friendly" and we always stay in properties that are but the rules state that pets can not be in the loft or on furniture. Not very realistic especially when you pay a pet deposit. I would eliminate such restrictions as the rental is picking up a broader base of customers as a result of "pet friendly". Overall we enjoyed our stay and would have no problem recommending it to others.

Artsy, bohemian get away with nature up close and personal!

We enjoyed our stay at the Hen House so much! My 5 year old picked organic veggies from the garden, gathered eggs and played with the chickens daily -- Peaches was her favorite because she was the only one who would let us hold her. Amanda is great as are her neighbors. Such a fun experience!

The Hen House was a great place to stay while in Colorado! My family loved the fun hexagon shaped house with the near loft bedrooms! Nice hideaway

Our family of five (three kids ages 11, 9, 6) had a great stay at this property. The location is a little off the beaten path in a quiet neighborhood, but near to a small town. It is also close enough to area attractions to be very convenient. We were pleased with the ample amenities for us and even our dog. The kids LOVED the chickens and garden! What a neat added bonus!

Amazing!

In a word, amazing! That is how we feel about this property! Amanda was a great host and made us feel at home, the minute we arrived. The fresh air, awesome flower aromas and the fresh eggs made our stay even better. The Hen House is beautifully remodeled and decorated. Miss Amanda is a master gardener and the frog is really cool! Relaxed country feel.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hen house. It was perfect for us and our 2 girls. The loft bedrooms are nice though minimally private. The beds and bedding were amazing and we enjoyed the art studio and record player so much. The outdoor patio and eating area under the tree were perfect for morning coffee and quiet time as well as order in dinner. We enjoyed feeding the chickens and collecting eggs that we ate for breakfast. It was such a relaxing atmosphere and close to hiking and other activities. Would definitely stay here again.

Cozy and Quiet!

My husband and I recently stayed at the hen house for 5 nights and loved it! We were sad to leave! It has a great location - about 30 mins from Colorado Springs and 1hr from Denver (easy drive from airport). The home was so clean and cozy! The washer and dryer were clean to use. Plenty of parking in front of the home and super easy to check in and check out. This home would be perfect for kiddos who love to be outside! It was just my husband and I, but would be very comfortable with more people. Amanda was amazing and SO quick to respond to questions. She even left us some veggies from her garden on the front porch :) we will definitely be back when visiting Colorado! I miss it this charming home already! :)

So many memories created

It’s hard to express how much we enjoyed our days here. We made so many sweet memories as a family. Our kids are 7 and 5 and immediately made best friends with all the chickens. At first the ladder to upstairs made them (and me tbh) a little nervous but after a few practices up and down with us, they were pros. We put a suitcase at the top of the opening at night just to block it off. The cabin has enough space to be comfortable and also feel cozy. It has everything you need- TV, we’ll functioning kitchen, large bathroom. We loved our little neighborhood, very quiet, everyone passing while we would be outside was very friendly, nice mom and pop restaurants nearby. The kids could run around the yard and I could keep an eye on them out the big windows. We made several day trips to CO Springs, Georgetown, etc., It was nice to come back to our quiet place in the woods. Amanda left great instructions and even a book with recommendations for hikes and places to eat, which was super helpful. This house was exactly the getaway my family needed.

Family Fun!

Our family loved the peaceful vibe of the Hen House. It was a great set up for a family of 4, with lots of sunshine, natural elements and all the necessities. Our kids loved the chickens, garden and frogs/fish! Checking for chicken eggs and making fresh breakfasts was one of our favorite memories! The ladder was doable for our 3 and 5 year old. We did block it at night, not sure if there was a gate but maybe one for the top would be nice with littles sleeping up there. Also, we were a little disappointed in the town of Palmer Lake as the lake has little recreational use (no swimming!) but the nearby restaurants and quick access to the interstate made up for it! Totally worth the extra driving to Colorado Springs activities to have this place to come back to.

Great getaway!!

We loved the Hen House! I felt like I was walking into the greatest playhouse of all time!! Hiked some great nearby trails. It was a good midway point between Denver and Colorado Springs. Had 4 people and it was great! We would definitely stay here again!!
