The Dupre House is a cozy shotgun-style cottage that can accommodate up to 6 guests with its 2 bedrooms, two full baths and a convertible sectional in the living room. It was built in 1908 for the Humphrey family and remained in their family for 70 years! After that it went through several owners before becoming ours. The last tenant to live there was Ms. Dupre, and her name is carved in the front side walk, so naming it The Dupre House had a lovely ring to it and seemed fitting. Beautifully rehabilitated in 2018, the cottage has new electrical, new plumbing, new AC and heat and new kitchen and baths. Original ship lap is left exposed on the ceilings and the living room, kitchen and secondary bedroom have original hardwood flooring. The living room comes equipped with a smart tv, sound bar and cable. Wifi is included. The breakfast bar has a lovely custom counter made from salvaged wood found in Galveston. It accommodates up to four and opens onto the new kitchen with all new cabinetry and appliances including a gas range, microwave, fridge, sink, dishwasher and Corian counters. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and private bathroom with walk-in shower. The secondary bedroom has an antique full size bed and the hall bath with tub/shower combo is just a few steps away. Both beds have 14" thick gel foam mattresses and pillows. Outside you will find a front porch as well as a large side porch with an outdoor dining table and charcoal grill that looks out over the side yard. The front and side yard are separated from the back yard by a gate, so you can keep an eye on your young children depending on where you're hanging out. We also have stackable adirondack chairs that you are welcome to move around on the property. The entire property is fully fenced with an adorable white picket fence in the front and 6' cedar plank everywhere else. The large backyard has room for up to 2-3 vehicles to park. The seawall is 5 blocks south and is chock full of restaurants and entertainment, not to mention the beach! There are many good restaurants nearby considered favorites of the locals such as Mi Abuelitas, Lupita's, Queens BBQ and Pennie's Tex Mex Takeout and then you have the well known Gaido's, The Spot and several other places on the seawall not too far from our home. Just 4 blocks north is the state-of-the-art public pool that has a recreational pool with kid-friendly play structures and body slide plus an 8-lane lap pool (fees apply). A convenience store is within walking distance, two nice bars are across the street and grocery stores are a short drive. Less than 2 miles away is the beautiful downtown historic district where you can shop and dine on the Strand and Post Office, enjoy beautiful views on the Rooftop Bar of the Tremont Hotel, visit The Moody Mansion or Bishops Palace, take a horse carriage ride, go on a ghost tour...too many things to name! This mid-town, urban location makes everything very accessible while still feeling the relaxed coastal vibe. The Dupre House is perfect for a romantic getaway, two couples, girl's weekend or a small family. We look forward to having you as our guests and we hope you have a fabulous stay on Galveston Island!
